Chapter 5 - Solmere Academy, First Impression!!

Chapter 5: Solmere Academy, First Impression!!

As Renjin, his father, and Bairon went to Solmere Academy to meet the headmaster, Bairon was the most nervous out of all because he didn't have his parents, neither of them.

"Hey dad, how long till we're at the Academy?" Renjin asked. His father then replied with, "About 30 more minutes of walking and we'll be there," with a smile on his face. Renjin was shocked.

"What!! 30 more minutes seriously!? Why can't we just take the horse carriages or something?""Because you two have to warm up a bit, come a bit loose or something. The first impression is important and it includes fighting." And so Renjin and Bairon accepted, but they weren't happy.

Along the way they did some shopping like buying some food for dinner and stocking up on ingredients for the next two weeks to prepare for Renjin's mother (Tomiko) her arrival.

They bought some new clothes since their old ones were kinda dirty, and some books that Renjin wanted.

"So hey Renjin, what are you gonna name your tiger bond?" Bairon asked."Well, I've already decided you know. His name is Fenrai."

After a while, when they turned into a small alley, what they encountered weren't just normal people — it was robbers? Of some sort, at least they weren't carrying around knives or weapons. No, they were mages, with fireballs and earth armor at their disposal, but Renjin's father could sense they were only about level 3 or 4 mages, so they could deal with them. At least that's what he thought at first, because yeah, they were low ranked but there were at least 12 of them there!!

Renjin, his father, and Bairon gathered their weapons and started fighting. Bairon began by overflowing the street with water, but to make sure it didn't go on the street, Renjin used his newly found Earth affinity to make a wall that prevented the water from overflowing the streets and he also used the earth beneath them to lift them up so they would not get hit with the water. As the water dried up, they went back down again. Nico took four of the bigger guys in a struggle for strength, meanwhile Renjin and Bairon teamed up and used their lightning and water combined to finish off the already pretty disoriented thieves. And so the problem was solved, they called the police and went back on the way to their meeting with the headmaster of Solmere Academy — or should I say headmistress? Her name is Maerith Solenne and she is an old lady about 60 years old. She's famous for her previous career as an adventurer, an SS rank one at that.

And soon they arrived at the beautiful Solmere Academy. It was HUGE. Trees everywhere, hundreds of students with their own dorms, teachers that were as powerful as experienced adventurers, and more. They walked to the headmistress' office. When arriving there, Renjin's father greeted her:"It is an honor to meet you, Headmistress Maerith Solenne. Shall we start our talk while they wait here for the tests?"

"Yes, very well then, we shall go talk now." And so Nico and the headmistress went to talk. Nico informed her about all the information about Renjin and Bairon, their elemental affinity and their deviants if they had those, their KI levels, blah blah blah.

It was all a normal conversation until Nico mentioned how Renjin had an affinity for Air, Earth, and Fire, as well as a deviant ability in Lightning. The headmistress was shocked. After talking for a bit, they started the tests. At first it began simple — an interview and stuff, but then a written test and eventually the final test: the battle against the headmistress. The headmistress would fight both Bairon AND Renjin at the same time. If they impressed her, they were allowed to participate in the entrance exam, and THAT would really decide if they could attend the school.

And so their battle began. They used their last strategy of Renjin making earth walls around the arena and then Bairon overflowing it with water. Then Renjin would lift them up in the air with his earth affinity and finally electrify the water. But this time it was not successful at all. The principal just used her air affinity to jump high in the air and swiftly dodge all long-range attacks. And so they switched up their tactics. Now they were going to start attacking at close range. Renjin thought this would be ultimately successful since he was a martial arts prodigy in his past life, but even though they combined their strength, they couldn't even hit the mistress. Renjin soon realized more and more that this 7-year-old underdeveloped body COULD NOT keep up with his movements. They tried again and again, and they also failed again and again. They just could not seem to land one blow, not one DAMN blow. But suddenly Renjin came up with a plan: he would keep fighting up close to make her get used to THOSE dodging movements, but when she's distracted for even a moment, he will use his air affinity — which he hasn't used all battle — to jump up in the air and land one fire strike. And after a couple of minutes, he succeeded with this exact plan.

"Well Renjin and Bairon, you guys impressed me. I, Headmistress Maerith Solenne of Solmere Academy, hereby declare you two as worthy to take an attempt at the entrance exam. I look forward to seeing you guys at the exam till next month. Goodbye!"
