Chapter 48
The man paused when a voice called out to him.
A flicker of irritation crossed his face, but it disappeared just as quickly, replaced by a warm, seemingly affable smile. He turned, his gaze falling on Ji Feiyang, who was rushing toward him.
"Young Master Ji," the man said with a faint smile, "is there something you need?"
Ji Feiyang hesitated for a second, then quickly replaced his unease with a flattering grin. "Second Young Master, just call me Feiyang."
The man didn't respond, and the smile on his face held a distant chill. It was clear he didn't share the same sense of familiarity.
"Second Young Master, may I borrow a moment of your time?" Ji Feiyang tried to close the distance between them, lowering his voice and his posture.
The man checked his watch. "If you have something to say, say it here. I have a meeting shortly."
Ji Feiyang glanced around nervously—at Manager Wang, at the doorman, and finally at Gu Xi, who stood frozen in the corner, trying to disappear into the shadows.
"If it's not convenient here, I can make an appointment with your secretary at Shengshi tomorrow," Ji Feiyang offered hastily.
The man had already begun to turn away, but Ji Feiyang scrambled to stop him. "No, no, it's convenient! Here is perfectly fine."
Reluctantly, the man paused and turned back, remaining at the threshold. He made no move to invite Ji Feiyang inside. Gu Xi, watching from the side, was stunned. With Ji Feiyang's usual arrogance, she had expected him to storm off after such a snub. Instead, he was practically groveling.
Who was this man?
Ji Feiyang wasn't even a member of Lanzhi, and yet he clearly held no power here. So where did his later confidence come from? Who gave him such audacity?
"Second Young Master, I'm here to apologize for the kid who bumped into you two days ago," Ji Feiyang said, carefully watching the man's expression.
The man raised an eyebrow. "Kid who bumped into me?"
"Yes, the one who spilled wine on you."
"Ah," he chuckled lightly, "that boy. If that's what this is about, then there's no need. You may go."
"Second Young Master, you're so magnanimous! I admire that about you." Ji Feiyang grinned awkwardly before continuing, "But such an offense can't be brushed off so easily. I've already detained the boy and was waiting for your instructions."
The man tilted his head, his eyes darkening as they studied Ji Feiyang. "Over a spilled drink, you've gone this far? You've certainly been busy, Young Master Ji."
"It was nothing! Just wanted to ensure you weren't disrespected."
The man's gaze sharpened. He was quiet for a beat, then said, "So much effort for something so trivial... Makes one wonder."
He let the words linger, then added with calm amusement, "But really, if the boy only spilled wine on me, toss the shirt and move on. There's no need to involve yourself further."
Ji Feiyang's forced smile faltered. The man, however, had already begun to turn again, clearly dismissing the matter—and Ji Feiyang along with it.
