Chapter 18 - The Library.

Several voices replied to his greeting all at once.

"Today is your first day in the university. I hope the journey you are set on for next three years would be fruitful for you. All of you will face a lot of difficulties, but one thing I want all of you to know is that it is how life is."

Crescent zoned out almost immediately.

Almost everyone had been starting their lecture with something similar since yesterday. Her only aim to get into university and pursue History was to learn more about this town.

But she kind of had begun feeling that she would end up learning everything but that through this course. She was noticing her syllabus for this year right while coming in the class.

The first semester taught them nothing except for the Greek History while the next semester focused on the Roman History.

The last semester had history related to the Lilac Town but she could not wait till then. She did not have that much time.

Moreover, coming here without a wink of sleep last night and then wasting time here with subjects that won't be beneficial to her was also cruel on her.

"I am sorry! I am late!" a voice pulled the attention of each one of the person in the classroom towards the door.

There stood a boy, holding the frame of the door and bending a little and panting.

"Young man, what a start of the university life! Late on the very first day." Professor Thompson commented. He was an old man, in his sixties most probably.

Crescent found a perfect chance to lean her chin on her palm and close her eyes.

"I apologise."

"Anyways, go and take the seat. It won't be tolerated next time."

"Thank you sir." The exchange went in the background not concerning Crescent a bit. She was thinking something else.

If she were to spend her time like this everyday, it would do her no good. She needed to do something to get out of here and research on her own.

She did not have that much time to wait and let the events take its course.

A shuffle beside her got her attention. She opened her eyes to find that boy sitting right beside her. Not giving him much thought, she lazily dropped her head on the desk.

"Well, hey." The man said.

Crescent looked back at him, raising an eyebrow.

"There was no other place to sit," the boy sheepishly smiled and shrugged.

Crescent barely nodded and decided to put her head down before he again spoke. "My name is Charlie, what's yours?"

Taking a deep breath, she patiently said, "Crescent."

"Very nice to meet you."

Crescent stayed quiet. On not getting any other question for the next minute, Crescent thought he would finally stay silent.

She had just put her head down. "Do you also live in the dormitories?"

Aghh!

She straightened up at once. Glaring at him, she replied. "Yes." She was really trying to not appear rude just because her day was not going good.

"Amazing! Even I live in the dormitories."

Crescent did not undrestand what exactly was amazing in that. Almost all the students were living in the dormitories here. Moreover, there was the distance of about hundreds of metres between the boys and girls dormitories.

She ended up politely smiling and staring at the Professor Thompson. She had no other choice than to pretend to be focusing on his words.

That was the only way to avoid his unstoppable chattering.

He talked a lot. And she had always disliked the strangers coming over and pestering her as if they had known each other since forever.

It wasn't long before the bell rang and she sprinted out of the room in no time.

Sometime during afternoon, Crescent had received a text from Misty.

'I need to go to library after lunch. Wanna tag along?'

'Yes.'

She definitely needed to.

Crescent waited for her by the cafeteria. After lunch, they went to the library.

"Do you have any classes after this?"

"For today there is none." Crescent shook her head.

"Perfect! Because I might end up taking long time."

"No worries, even I got books to issue."

Misty asked, "Must be history related?"

"Yeah."

It was the first time that Crescent was entering it. From exterior, anyone could tell that it was huge but from inside, it was wholesome spacious!

The interior was modern, with marbled flooring, huge wooden bookshelves, frames of the quotes of famous authors filling up the walls, a spiral-staircase and the elevators right beside it.

There were almost three floors as she could tell from the ground floor.

"The vibe in here is really different." Misty commented being impressed. She had informed beforehand that there was a time when she was a sucker for the fictional novels during her teens.

They analysed the map fitted on the wall to know where they needed to go. The History section was on the top-floor whereas the section for Fine Arts was in the left corridor of the second floor.

"Alright, I will call you when I am done." Misty waved as Crescent walked up the stairs for another floor.

As she got on the top floor, she realised the History section was in the extreme end of the right-side section.

There were shelves, containing the books by the brilliant philosophers, historians, researchers. The series of them closely placed. However, she couldn't seem to find what she needed.

As per Mrs Walter, it had been the talk of the town once that while renovating this library, the books had been carried outside in the military trucks and stationed in the central military authority amidst proper security to ensure the proper safety and security.

So it was close to impossible that the safety and security would be needed only to the other subjects. There need to be something within the history novels that required them to keep it safe.

Apart from just the past records.
