Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5

POV: Li Yun

*Crick*

The door creaked open as the girl, whom I've come to know as Li Mei, opened the door to her home—a simple shack situated at the outskirts of the city.

After we got inside, she helped me lay on her bed, and I groaned in discomfort as I lay down.

*Crick*

The bed was hard, made with a stack of wood layered with straw, with a quilt laying above to maintain its shape.

"Sorry if my bed feels uncomfortable," she said meekly by my side.

I simply shook my head and quickly replied to make her feel better.

"No, it's okay. I'm more worried about you sleeping in this kind of bed."

I said this in concern, which caused her to blush slightly as she lowered her head in shyness.

"It isn't that bad once you get used to it," she said, which made me even more worried about her, as well as curious.

"So um, do you live alone?" I asked cautiously so as not to cause her any discomfort.

"Yes. Although there was someone in the past that cared for me... but she's gone now," she said, a sad smile plastered on her face.

Seeing this caused me to frown at myself for making her remember something she didn't want to.

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"Oh, it's okay. I'm not sad. The last thing she wanted was for me to never get sad for her since…"

She paused for a moment as she took out a necklace, and hanging from it was a silver ring. She held it close to her and said:

"She will always be by my side."

She smiled as she said this.

I simply smiled at that, imagining that the person she missed must have been a kind soul. I sat up with difficulty, which caused her to slightly panic, but I assured her I was okay.

I then took out a small cross from within my robe and placed it on the table. I looked at Li Mei and smiled.

"Come pray with me. Let's pray for their souls to be embraced by the Lord's loving embrace."

I said this to her, causing her to slightly tilt her head in curiosity as she asked:

"Um, who is this lord or god you speak of?"

Seeing her ask made me smile.

"Well, God is… the almighty creator of all—the Father of mankind," I said with vigor and zeal, causing her eyes to sparkle. Seeing this, I continued:

"He created mankind in his image, making him our Creator as well as our Father. He is the one who watches over us like a father to his child. He judges us—whether we are worthy to be embraced in his arms or to be punished for the sins we've caused."

I lectured her in excitement, her eyes glowing even brighter. She then suddenly raised her hand, reminding me of my master and the first time I was taught by him—reminiscent of the time when I, too, raised my hand just like her.

But I shook my head and signaled her to ask her question.

"But if he's our Father, why did you get hurt earlier?" she asked, which made me smile sadly.

"Because I almost took a soul. Although he mocks God, God sensed that he hasn't committed any sins or disobeyed His rules."

After I said that, she nodded absentmindedly, which caused me to chuckle. I then said:

"Let's move on to something else. You won't learn of God's brilliance in only a day—let me guide you."

And so, after that, our talk went through the night as a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere surrounded us.

**POV: ???**

I flew above the dark sky as the moon encompassed me in its soft light, my dark wings flapping gracefully—a trail of feathers following my way.

After a bit of flying, I landed atop the tallest building within sight: a pagoda.

Landing atop the roof tiles gracefully, as if nothing had ever landed there, I stood straight and gazed upon this strange new world.

*Inhale*

I inhaled the air, creating a large suction as the thing I've come to know as qi merged with me.

After a minute of inhaling the cold night air, my eyes—once closed—suddenly opened as sharp teeth formed from my mouth, highlighting my glowing red eyes and menacing smile. My smog-like body, shaped like a human figure, radiated darkness.

"So... much... hate."

I announced menacingly as the clouds suddenly began to move on their own, swirling and encircling where I stood, as if the heavens themselves had sensed my presence.

"So... much... greed."

I slowly spread my arms wide as the light of the moon disappeared, obscured by the swirling clouds above. I yelled out in malicious joy:

"SO MUCH SIN! HAHAHAHAHA!"

My laughter rang throughout the world as thunder echoed, as if the heavens were angry at my arrival.

I set my gaze upward, feeling the presence of my creator.

"God, I thank you."

I then bowed mockingly toward the heavens as the dark aura around me intensified.

"Thank you for bringing me to my perfect world. Hahahaha!"

That was the last thing I said before I disappeared, and thunder struck the place I had been just moments ago. Everything returned to normal, as if nothing had ever happened.
