"I'm Kurobane Kiyota." He said suddenly. It wasn't a question, and he wasn't really expecting an answer. 'Great, now she might pepper spray me.' Kiyota thought as the silence continued on.
But to his surprise, she responded. "I know. You're the captain of the basketball team, right?" Her voice was soft.
'She does recognise me.' Kiyota smiled, pleased. "Yeah. I just had a match. I'm beat." He said.
"I see. Did you win?" She asked.
"Nope. Lost by 34 points." Kiyota said. He didn't know why he was telling her this. The girl didn't know him, and he didn't know her. Maybe it was because they were both strangers on a late night street, or because his team had lost and he needed someone to rant to.
She didn't say anything. He expected her to make an excuse and leave. But instead, she just stared at him for a few more seconds before speaking.
"I'm sorry." She said quietly, her face expressionless.
Kiyota looked at her, surprised.
"What are you sorry for? It's not like you're the one who made us lose." Kiyota said. He felt strangely happy to have a conversation.
"No, it's just-you seem upset. And I thought saying sorry might help." She said.
"You're pretty nice, aren't you? Well it did make me feel a little better." Kiyota said. His heart was starting to beat faster.
She smiled. "That's good."
Kiyota's heart thudded. He felt warm and light. He felt his lips curl upwards.
'God. What's wrong with me? Is this a crush?' Kiyota thought.
She took a sip of her can, and he did the same.
"So why are you out here so late?" He asked.
"I'm just on my way home. My house is close by." She said.
"And why are you walking by yourself?" Kiyota said.
"It's fine, there are some people still outside." She said, gesturing vaguely in the direction of the main street.
Kiyota raised an eyebrow. "Not really safe. Didn't you hear about the ghoul double homocide near the park? They even closed it down."
"Yeah, but I'm not going there. And besides, I'm not afraid. I'm pretty tough." She said. Her eyes glinted.
Kiyota looked her up and down. She was clutching on to a book.
'Probably not the type to get involved in fights. Maybe she's secretly a karate master.' Kiyota thought.
"So what are you doing here so late?" She asked.
"After a match, I usually go here and get a drink. Helps calm me down." He said.
"Oh? So, do you lose a lot?" She teased.
"Yeah I guess so." Kiyota said with a dejected expression.
She didn't reply, but a smile was on her lips.
"You're mean. Well I need to head home, mom is probably going to yell at me." She said.
Kiyota felt disappointed. He wanted to stay and talk more. He wasn't ready for this conversation to end.
"Can I have your number?" Kiyota blurted.
"How do I know you're not a ghoul?" She said jokingly.
"If I was a ghoul I probably would have eaten you by now" Kiyota said also jokingly.
She laughed and gave her phone to him so he could type out his number. Kiyota noticed a fluffy keychain attached to her bag.
'Cute.' He thought as he finished typing his number and handed her the phone back.
"Ok. I'll see you later." She said and walked away.
Kiyota watched her walk away. His heart was beating fast, and his cheeks felt warm.
'Is this a crush?' He thought.
'But then again...maybe it's a little too early to call it that. Wait, I'm actually a idiot. I forgot to ask her for her name.'

Slight drizzle began, making the asphalt wet and reflective, like a black mirror. The night was cold and the clouds hid the moon, and the city lights were bright and glaring. The rain made everything darker and colder. I
The footsteps echo through the streets. A man is running as fast as he can.
He runs through the empty streets and he is panting and wheezing, his feet hitting the wet pavement hards are the only sounds, apart from the occasional passing car.
He knows he's being followed. He knows he needs to run. If he doesn't, they'll catch him. If he's caught, he'll die. The fear makes his blood boil.
'Almost there.'
He's almost home, and the streetlights are illuminating the way and the sounds of the city are masking his sounds.
"There you are."
The man stops dead in his tracks. There is a person in front of him. He is tall and thin, wearing a white shirt with a grey tie and a CCG issued black trench coat over it. The person's hand is hidden in the pockets of his coat and the other around a mettalic breifcase.
"Doves..." The man says to himself grinding his teeth.
"You've been getting very greedy haven't you? A double homicide and you thought nothing would happen. You're lucky, I'll end it quick." The CCG investigator says.
"Shut up. Do you think you're any better than me?" The man says.
"No. We are the same." The CCG investigator says. "We're the same. We're all predators. And we all prey on the weak."
"I'll kill you!" The man said as he lunges forward with a roar his kagune bursting from his back like tendrils. His kagune looked like a dark green woven thread using two giant tails. It glowed slightly in the darkness.
The investigator didn't flinch and he calmly dropped the silver briefcase he was holding, unlatched it mid-air, and pulls free a shining quinque. Electricity slightly enveloped the quinque which was shaped like a machete with glowing blue lines under the shining black material.
Their weapons clash with a screech, rain spraying around them as if the sky itself was trying to wash away the blood that was about to be spilled.
"I've got a daughter at home who is waiting, so hurry up and die." The CCG investigator said as he twirled in the air, using shock absorbed by the clash. He aimed downwards at the ghoul's gut.
