Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Adelmo turned to Nik with a serious expression on his face.

"Listen, Nik, the next time you come across a crime scene like that, I need you to collect samples of everything," he said firmly.

Nik looked puzzled and asked, "Why? What's the big deal?"

Adelmo sighed; his eyes filled with concern.

"I can't explain it, but something about this whole situation just doesn't sit right with me. It's just a hunch, but I have this gut feeling that there's more to it than meets the eye. Please, just do it for me. And keep me updated because right now, I'm completely clueless. Plus, this bump on my head isn't helping me think straight."

Nik nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation.

"Alright, Adelmo, I'll make sure to gather all the samples and keep you informed. But hey, did you ever find out who was in your house?"

He asked, curiosity evident in his voice. Adelmo shook his head, a hint of frustration in his voice.

"No, I haven't been able to figure it out yet. Thankfully, nothing was missing, so I'm not too worried about it. But it's still unsettling to think that someone was in my home without my knowledge."

Adelmo's curiosity got the better of him, and he turned the question back to Nik.

"By the way, Nik, do you believe in the paranormal?"

he asked, his voice tinged with skepticism. Nik chuckled and replied, "No way, Adelmo. I don't buy into all that hunk of crap. I believe in facts and evidence, not ghosts and supernatural stuff."

Adelmo nodded, a small smile playing on his lips.

"Fair enough, my friend. I guess we'll stick to solving crimes with our detective skills and leave the paranormal to the movies."

They both shared a laugh, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead in their investigation.

Adelmo responded, "It's important to acknowledge that there are many things that defy explanation."

Nik inquired, "Do you have faith in it?"

Adelmo replied, "Not really, but whenever I ponder the idea, it sends a shiver down my spine. Therefore, I choose to retain that notion at the back of my mind, despite my disbelief in the supernatural."

In his response, Adelmo emphasized the existence of phenomena that elude rational understanding. When Nik questioned his belief, Adelmo admitted to his skepticism. However, he confessed that contemplating the unknown instilled a sense of caution within him. This cautionary approach led him to maintain a level of awareness regarding the unexplained, even though he remained unconvinced of its reality.

Adelmo's words hinted at a complex relationship with the mysterious and unexplainable. While he professed his lack of belief in the paranormal, he also acknowledged the unsettling effect that thoughts of the inexplicable had on him. This internal conflict between skepticism and a lingering sense of unease underscored Adelmo's nuanced perspective on the supernatural, revealing a deeper layer to his understanding of the world around him.

Adelmo found himself losing track of time as the hours slipped away unnoticed. Suddenly, he realized it was already late and he needed to head back to the store to search for a more potent remedy for his pounding headache. Turning to Nik, his friend, Adelmo inquired about when Nik would be finishing his shift.

Nik, preoccupied with his workload, responded to Adelmo's question with uncertainty. He mentioned that he had a lot of tasks to complete and there was a possibility of him staying late into the night to handle the ongoing cases in the town. Adelmo nodded understandingly, acknowledging the demanding nature of Nik's responsibilities.

As Adelmo prepared to leave, he assured Nik that they would catch up later, regardless of whether he managed to find relief for his headache or decided to call it a night.

Nik bid him farewell with a casual "take it easy", signaling a sense of camaraderie and mutual understanding between the two friends.

Despite the uncertainties of the night ahead, their brief exchange reflected a sense of companionship and support in their shared friendship.

Adelmo hopped into his car, ready to tackle the day ahead. His first stop was the local drug store, where he needed to pick up some pain relievers. As he perused the shelves, he found himself faced with a dilemma - which one should he choose? Unsure of which pain reliever would be the most effective, he decided to seek advice from the pharmacist on duty.

The pharmacist listened attentively as Adelmo explained the discomfort he was experiencing. Curious about the cause of his pain, the pharmacist inquired about what had happened. Adelmo recounted the incident that had led to his current state of discomfort. After hearing his story, the pharmacist informed Adelmo that there were no over-the-counter medications strong enough to alleviate his pain without a prescription.

However, the pharmacist didn't leave Adelmo empty-handed. He guided him to the section with the strongest over-the-counter pain relievers available. Handing him a bottle of the recommended medication, the pharmacist reassured Adelmo that it was the best option for his situation. Grateful for the assistance, Adelmo expressed his thanks and proceeded to purchase the pain relievers, along with something to wash them down with. With a newfound sense of hope for relief, Adelmo left the drug store, eager to try out the pharmacist's recommendation.

After leaving the store, Adelmo made his way back home, feeling the weight of the day's events on his shoulders. As he entered his house, he decided to lay down in hopes of finding some relief from the pain that had been bothering him. However, as time passed, he realized that simply resting was not going to make the discomfort disappear. The thought of all the tasks waiting for him made it impossible for him to stay still.

Driven by a sense of urgency, Adelmo got up and decided to take a walk to clear his mind and perhaps find a solution to his predicament. As he stepped out of his house, he appeared composed, but as he neared the store that had been broken into, a sudden wave of agony washed over him. The pain was so intense that he found himself on his knees, clutching his head in agony. Determined to push through, he began to crawl, hoping that movement would alleviate the pain.

Despite the excruciating discomfort, Adelmo continued to move forward, inching away from the store that seemed to be the source of his suffering. Slowly but surely, the pain began to subside as he distanced himself from the scene of the break-in. With each step he took, the throbbing in his head lessened, until finally, he found himself free from the torment that had plagued him moments before. It was a relief to feel the pain dissipate as he walked further away, leaving behind the store and the anguish it had caused him.
