Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Forgotten City

Lucian didn't know much about the place he wanted to go. But he was sure it was the ruins of an old sect. There was a chance he could find martial arts stronger than five stars.

In his past life, he had martial arts up to six stars. But now, the resources needed for that were impossible to get.

After running for a long time, they finally reached the ruins.

"We arrived without problems. It looks like luck is on our side," said Luc.

"Stop saying unlucky things," Leo replied.

"What? The logical guy believes in bad luck now?" Luc laughed.

"Both of you, calm down," said Lucian. "We still need to enter and search. This sect is much bigger than it looks. In fact, it was built underground. It seems something made this hole here."

Fear started to enter the group.

"Alright… who goes first?" Leo asked while looking at the dark hole.

Lucian sighed. "Follow me. Stay close. There might be a formation that the beasts haven't activated yet."

"You can find formations?"

"Yes. Now be quiet."

The group entered the hole and moved deeper into the ruins.

Inside the hole, there was a long and dark tunnel. After a long time, they stopped in front of a wall.

"What now?" Leo asked.

"We dig." Lucian didn't waste time. He started digging with his hands.

Luc and Leo joined him.

After 30 minutes, they made a hole in the wall.

What they saw shocked them.

It was a giant underground city. Blue glowing flowers were everywhere. But there was also destruction in every corner. Whatever happened here, it killed everything.

Luc and Leo were amazed by the beautiful scene. But Lucian didn't waste time. He walked quickly to the biggest building in the city.

Luc and Leo followed fast.

Suddenly, Lucian stopped and raised his hand to warn them.

There was a small building near the wall, covered with moss. Something inside looked like a human shape.

It looked like a person trapped in a spider's web.

That thing had eyes. It was staring at Lucian very strongly.

The eyes wanted something.

They wanted death.

But…

The group continued walking. They avoided the dangerous thing. For some reason, it didn't attack.

The eyes watched them leave. Then, tears fell from them. Staying alive here for many years was painful. And not being recognized by his own kind brought a new kind of pain...

Lucian kept walking toward the big building surrounded by walls. The streets were full of those things with strange eyes. Luckily, they didn't attack. They only looked... and cried.

"You two… don't you feel something is wrong with these things? Maybe they are the humans who lived here," Leo said.

"So what if they are? They must have turned into monsters. Look at their shapes. Also, what kind of humans live for so many years?" Luc replied.

"They are humans. The people of this city," Lucian said. Then he continued.

"It looks like they were kept as food for a beast. But since they are still here, maybe the beast died and didn't eat them."

"Then why don't we free them?!" Leo asked.

"We don't know what could happen. Don't forget our main goal."

Leo wanted to argue. But then he stopped. He was staring at one of the creatures. It was smaller than the others. A small doll was next to it.

Leo felt dizzy. I-Is this…? His thoughts raced. He looked deep into the creature's eyes. Tears were falling fast.

Without thinking more, Leo ran to the small girl. Lucian tried to stop him, but Luc blocked his way.

They looked at each other. Then Lucian sighed in defeat.

Leo reached the small girl. For a moment, he didn't know what to do. Then he got an idea.

He would try to remove her from the wall and see what happens.

He looked around and found another creature. He decided to try on that one first. He didn't want to risk hurting the little girl.

He moved to the other creature. Then he started to work. When he removed the creature from the wall, green liquid came out. Soon, the creature melted and disappeared in the green liquid.

Leo felt hopeless. It was too late to save them. Their bodies were already gone.

Luc felt the same. So he started going around the city, ending the suffering of the rest. He didn't forget the first creature they saw. Lucian helped him to finish quickly. Together, they ended all the pain in the city.

After they finished, they returned to Leo. He was still sitting and looking at the little girl.

"I'm sorry... but don't worry. You won't suffer anymore."

...

The mood became heavy, but they finally reached the wall around the big building.

It looked like a castle wall. There were signs of an old battle everywhere.

"Let's go."

Lucian entered, and Leo and Luc followed him. There was no turning back now.
