Chapter 22 - I'm her boyfriend!
In the Underworld—
At this moment, Lucifer was meeting with the heir of the Gremory clan.
Seated in the shadows, the figure radiated an unusual aura.
Half of his body was illuminated by lamplight, his robes exuding majestic authority.
Even among the Four Great Satans, Lucifer was special—only the strongest devil could bear that title.
"Lord Lucifer," Rias spoke calmly, delivering a straightforward report regarding the Fallen Angels.
"I already know everything you've mentioned. You did well this time—especially ensuring that Boosted Gear did not end up in the enemy's hands."
"…It's all thanks to Evan. I only handled the aftermath," Rias sighed inwardly.
"Then why not tell me more about this classmate of yours, Evan?" From the shadows emerged a young, handsome face.
"I've heard you've been getting close to this Evan recently. Is he your boyfriend from the human world, Rias-chan?"
No longer using a low, serious tone, his voice now held curiosity, even mischief.
The youth's features bore a slight resemblance to Rias's.
This was Sirzechs, the Satan Lucifer, and Rias's older brother.
Upon inheriting Lucifer's title, he had to separate from the Gremory clan—hence Rias became the heiress.
"What? Brother, where did you hear that? Evan isn't my boyfriend!" Rias looked dumbfounded.
"But I heard you've been spending time with him these past six months."
"Rias, you've never acted like this with any man other than me."
"So, when's the wedding? Are you planning on having kids? I rather look forward to having a nephew or niece."
Those words left Rias speechless.
What nonsense is this?
She had good feelings toward Evan, but… marriage and kids?
That was far in the future, wasn't it?
"Brother, who told you all this?!"
"I heard it from Serafall. She dropped by recently, complaining that Sona opposed her for the first time."
"Er… Sona? What's she got to do with this?"
"Apparently, Sona and Evan have also been quite close. He even helped restore Kishimojin in Hachiōji City so she could regain her divine duties, for which the Sitri clan rewarded Sona."
"Of course, Serafall heard about it. She saw how friendly Sona and he have become and wanted to visit the human world to warn him not to get too cozy with her sister."
"But Sona outright refused. So… Rias-chan, is this some kind of love triangle?"
Sirzechs's expression radiated curiosity.
"It's definitely not a love triangle!" Rias snapped.
"Please, Lord Lucifer, don't believe rumors. I have other matters to attend to; I'm leaving now."
She stormed off, her mind in turmoil. Why are Sona and Evan suddenly so close?
Sona had a great relationship with her sister, but now they were arguing over Evan?
Rias felt her head spinning; she probably wouldn't sleep tonight.
Once Rias was gone, Sirzechs dropped his playful grin and reviewed the intelligence he'd gathered.
"Not only did he handle Kishimojin, but he also killed the leader of Aogiri Tree and took the Longinus… Hmm."
"Grayfia, what's your opinion of him?"
From the shadows appeared a silver-haired young woman, dressed regally, her expression cold.
"He's of unknown origin, extremely strong, highly capable, and doesn't seem to have any backing."
"Someone worth bringing into the fold, but we'll need to observe him further to see where he stands."
"That's acceptable. If Rias truly fancies him, I can rest easy. But that child is so stubborn—she bottles everything up. Perhaps Evan will change her."
Sirzechs sighed softly, then added, "By the way, how are things at the border? While it's calm for now, their intentions haven't changed."
"Word is they're still searching in secret for the descendants of the original Satans."
"Descendants… we'll keep an eye on that."
Time swiftly carried on to the weekend.
After gently moving the snoozing Est off him and glancing at Asia curled up in her blankets, Evan left his villa.
Observing Asia's situation, he considered enrolling her in school.
It wouldn't be difficult—he just had to ask Rias or Sona for help.
During lunch break, Evan looked for Koneko to discuss Asia's situation.
"Got it. I'm heading to the Occult Research Club now. Want to come?"
"Sure."
Sunlight filtered through the treetops, casting dappled shadows.
Evan and Koneko walked and talked casually.
But as they neared the Occult Research Club, both noticed an unusual leak of demonic power in the air.
Koneko paused, then widened her eyes, realizing something.
"That disgusting power… It has to be that guy!"
Her tone carried rare emotion.
"Who?" Evan asked.
"…He's from the Phenex clan and also the President's fiancé."
Evan understood immediately.
This was a familiar plotline from DxD.
He hadn't expected to stumble upon it today.
Koneko eyed Evan's expression, then added, "But President hates him."
"Well, since we're here, let's go in and take a look."
Evan smiled slightly and opened the door. Koneko followed.
Inside the Occult Research Club, the antique-style study was filled with tension.
Rias and Akeno had dropped their usual smiles, their gazes cold as they stared at the blond-haired man on the sofa.
He wore a red suit, jacket open, revealing his chiseled chest and abs.
A thick gold chain hung around his neck, making him look like an arrogant rich kid from online videos.
Behind him stood a group of female devils, all different in appearance—his personal servants.
"My dear Rias, your fiancé rarely visits the human world. Shouldn't you at least smile for me?"
Rias's expression grew colder.
"I have no obligation to smile at you. And don't call me that—I have nothing to do with you."
"Heh, still as fiery as ever," Riser Phenex was unfazed.
"Alright, I won't waste time. My clan has been urging me—since the date is set, when are you returning to the Underworld? We need to finalize the wedding location and send invitations."
Rias's expression darkened further.
"Riser, don't push your luck! I told my clan I have freedom until I graduate university in the human world!"
"As the heir of the Gremory clan, I decide who I marry!"
Riser's playful smirk vanished, his face turning cold.
"You're the one being unreasonable, Rias. This marriage is tied to the future of pure-blood devil clans."
"If you refuse, let's settle it the Underworld's way—a Rating Game. If I win, you return to the Underworld with me immediately."
Rias's heart clenched, but her anger flared.
"And if I win?"
Riser burst into laughter, unable to contain himself.
"Win? You think you can beat me? Do you take the honor of the Phenex clan as a joke?"
"I've played ten Rating Games—ten wins, zero losses. And you? You don't even have a full set of servants. How do you expect to fight me?"
"Or do you want to humiliate yourself in front of whole underworld?"
Rias's face grew darker.
She couldn't refute him—her chances of winning were 10% at best, theoretically.
She had trained diligently and believed in her servants, but the numerical difference was overwhelming.
Seeing her silence, Riser smirked, about to continue.
Just then, the clubroom door swung open.
Everyone turned toward the entrance.
Their eyes landed on Evan and Koneko.
"Ohhh~~~"
Riser's female devils gasped softly upon seeing Evan.
"Who is that? He's so young… and so handsome!"
"I thought Lord Lucifer and Lord Beelzebub were the peak of male beauty, but is there really someone this handsome in the human world?!"
"Who is he? Why is he here?"
Among the chatter, one girl stood out—a blonde with twin-tails and a cold expression.
She had been indifferent to Rias's resistance, but upon seeing Evan, her eyes froze.
"Evan, what are you doing here?" Rias and Akeno said, surprised.
They noticed Koneko beside him.
Did she bring him here?
But what could an outsider do?
"I need your help with something," Evan said simply.
"Sorry, I'm dealing with something now. Can you wait? I'll be done soon," Rias said gently.
But before Evan could reply, Riser turned to him with hostility, his expression unfriendly.
Why does Rias treat him so differently? She was cold to me, but polite to this guy?!
"Who the hell are you?"
"Riser, Evan is my—"
"I'm her boyfriend," Evan cut her off, his face calm.
Silence fell over the room.
Three seconds later, Riser's expression twisted spectacularly.
Evan stepped forward, standing in front of Rias, blocking her astonished expression from view.
