Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2

A young girl marched in like she owned the place.

"Oh, young lady, you dressed yourself— but why ruin the sunflowers on the floor? And what about your hair?

Why do you always trouble me?"

She said it all with her chin high, eyes looking down, with a hand on her hip and other over mouth. Disgust? Or fake manners?

She lifted me up and sat me on the dressing table. She took out a worn-out comb— if you could even call it that. She started brushing my hair. No. Not brushing. Pulling it out.

She wore a plain black dress just above her ankles, with a long white apron. Hair tied weirdly as if trying to look different, pretty. i don't know about pretty but it was definately petty.

A maid.

How dare she.

"Young lady, breakfast is ready. We can't have you late," she smirked.

Then she yanked me off the chair and guided me to the table.

Guided? No. She ran ahead like she wanted to distance herself from a dirty thing and I was left chasing, panting behind.

Late? But I got there before anyone.

She sat me down. Weird glances came from other servants. Then, after about fifteen minutes, the others came in and sat.

First, the big chair was taken by a brown-haired man. Then a very pretty lady followed, her shiny blonde hair, neck draped in jewels.

Then came two kids— a boy with ash-brown hair and a girl with soft pink hair.

Count Tharen Sapiros sat in the tallest chair, with Lady Virela Sapiros at his side.

The boy, Elric, and girl, Seren, sat facing each other.

Huh?

Count?Elric? Seren? Where are these names coming from-

The table was full of food. But my plate looked sad. No meats. No fruits. Just a bowl of… something. Potato soup. Maybe. It tasted like rubber. Only salt and pepper, no other flavour.

Still, my hands moved on their own. My mouth chewed. Mind and body— both obeyed quietly.

Silence. Thick, heavy, and cold.

No one spoke.

After breakfast, everyone left, and I followed.

"Lady Isha, you should behave," said the same maid, waiting in the middle of the room.

I blinked at her. She stared back, arms crossed.

I stepped into the room, this new room.

"We need to change you. I didn't have time in the morning but must do it now."

"We? Who's we?"

I narrowed my eyes.

She froze — speechless.

"Am I the servant, or are you? How dare a maid as lowly as you try to puppet me! The audacity! I am a member of House Sapiros — a noble! I might have obliged if you weren't such an ugly hag with that boring hairstyle, which only you think looks good. In reality, you're nothing but a plain country girl with zero knowledge, manners, style, taste — or future! Just someone who makes herself feel powerful by stepping on others! Ugh, breathing the same air as you is choking me. Your presence disgusts me with no bounds."

Her jaw practically hit the floor. Her eyeballs looked like they were about to fall out of her head.

I swear — if there was a fly in the room, it definitely flew into her mouth.

She stood frozen for a beat, like her brain was buffering.

Then… she smiled. Weirdly. Creepy, horror-movie smile.

Without a word, she walked to the dressing table — that was on the other side of the room, by the door. She reached behind the mirror… fingers feeling around.

Laughing. Evilly. She found it- whatever that was!

I gulped.

What could she just pull out? A stick? A cane?Or something worse…?
