Cherreads

Chapter 6 - The Beginning of a Hatred

After a passionate night, Divya and Ritshy prepared to go to work. Once at the office, Divya, in a good mood, greeted everyone cheerfully.

Good morning, Catherine! she said joyfully.

Good morning, Miss Divya, Catherine replied.

Come to my office.

Alright, I'm coming.

Sit down.

Divya complied. Catherine stared at her with curiosity.

Divya...

Hmmm?

What's wrong with your neck?

What do you mean?

It's all red.

Oh, it must be a bee sting.

Hmmm... Divya!

What?

Looks like someone had a really good evening last night...

What are you talking about? I told you it's a bee sting, Divya replied, nervously running her hand over her neck to hide the red mark.

Then why are you so nervous?

Me... nervous? Not at all. I'm just...

Just what?

I'm just trying...

Trying what?

It just hurts a little, I'm just trying to ease the pain.

You sure?

Of course! You know I'm sensitive to pain... We're human after all.

Catherine murmured with a mocking smile:

That pain did you more good than harm. Otherwise, you wouldn't be so cheerful this morning...

What did you say?

Nothing! I was saying you should go to the hospital and see a doctor.

No need, it's not that serious. I can handle it.

Who wouldn't handle this kind of...

What are you mumbling about now?

Nothing. You called me, right? What task should I do?

Take these documents and distribute them to everyone.

Okay, message received.

After following Divya's instructions, Catherine returned to her seat and continued working.

At the end of the day, Divya returned home, took a bath, then took a nap.

What an exhausting day... she sighed. A lot happened today.

Then her phone rang.

Hello?

My darling!

How are you, my love?

I'm fine, my princess, and you?

I'm fine, thank you.

Did your day go well?

I missed you.

I missed you too.

There was a small silence.

Today I took the day off from work. It's time to relax a bit, what do you think?

Absolutely, darling.

Hmmm.

Divya...

Yes?

What's wrong?

...

Why aren't you talking?

I... lost my job.

What?! How?

There was a conflict between two colleagues. I tried to separate them to avoid a fight...

Never mind the details, what you did was right. But now you're unemployed. And finding a job isn't easy.

I know... But don't worry, darling, I'll find something.

Alright, my heart, I'll take care of you.

The next morning, Divya woke up early, prepared a nice breakfast, then took a bath.

I'm off today, and Ritshy is unemployed. Maybe I could bring him dinner, it'll reduce his expenses, she thought.

She then prepared a nice meal and went to Ritshy's. Upon arrival, she rang the doorbell.

Someone's knocking? Nadou, go see who it is! Ritshy shouted.

Who is it? Nadège asked.

Peeking through the door, she saw Divya.

What is she doing here again? Can't she live without clinging to my brother? she muttered.

But she quickly regained composure.

Anyway, he's there. I have to pretend to be nice.

She opened the door with a big exaggerated smile.

Sister-in-law! How are you? It's been ages! I talk about you every day to my brother. We really missed you. Come in!

Hello!

Hello! Jenny replied.

Where's Ritshy?

He's in the shower, he'll be back soon.

I'm here, darling! Ritshy said, kissing Divya on the forehead.

Happy to see you, my love. You're still as handsome, she replied with a smile.

What's in your hands?

I brought you dinner.

Thank you, my love, that's sweet. I'm really touched.

My brother promised to take us to a restaurant today! Nadège exclaimed.

But Divya cooked, we can't waste it, right?

I don't care! You promised me.

Your brother doesn't have a job anymore... Even if he still had one, it wouldn't be reasonable to spend unnecessarily. We need to save for the future.

My brother promised me, he can't go back on his word.

Be reasonable, Nadou. I'll take you another time, as soon as I can.

Hmmm. Alright...

Good girl.

I'm going to my room.

Once alone, Nadège muttered under her breath:

This idiot is starting to make my life difficult. My brother doesn't listen to me anymore, he doesn't spoil me anymore, he's changed. All of this is because of her. She's the one stealing his attention... I have to do something. I have to separate them. Don't blame me, Divya. It's you who asked for it. And you will pay.
