Chapter 36 - The Savage Girl

Chapter 36 — The Savage Girl

"No!"

After eating, the three remaining savage men gathered and started their usual chaotic communication. They shouted "una una" without any sense.

If I wrote "Ula Ula Ula" in its simplest form, you probably wouldn't understand it either, right?

Let me explain what they were talking about.

Cannibal Tribe Chief:

"We must survive."

Two Savage Men:

"I agree! I agree!"

Cannibal Tribe Chief:

"We need to make new babies!"

Two Savage Men:

"I agree! I agree!"

Cannibal Tribe Chief:

"Agree on what? Can one of you give birth, huh!"

Savage Man A:

"Nope..."

Savage Man B:

"Maybe... probably not..."

Cannibal Tribe Chief:

"..."

It was clear that these two were much smarter than the chief.

With a deep breath, the chief continued:

"I've decided—we're going to the Dragonback Tribe. We'll look for women there!"

The Dragonback Tribe was another wild tribe.

But unlike the man-eating tribe, they were more civilized.

They were even known never to eat humans. They rarely hunted because they had learned to farm tubers and vines (two types of plants that are edible).

You could say their tribe was more advanced.

When they heard the decision, the two wild men looked worried instead of happy.

"No! We shouldn't join that tribe!"

Uwaa Ulaa!

They protested loudly.

"Be quiet! If you don't come with me, I'll kill you right here and now!"

The cannibal chief swung his spear while glaring at them.

"Okay, we'll come."

And just like that, the last three members of the cannibal tribe started their journey to the Dragonback tribe.

"Onii-chan, why are you staring at me like that?"

Even though Megumi had acted boldly earlier, being stared at so intensely by her brother now made her feel embarrassed.

"Well... it's just that Megumi is too cute... I can't help it."

Jun stared at his sister's lips, his eyes full of emotion.

His lips still lingered on his tongue... soft, warm, and slightly sweet.

If Yukino was like vanilla ice cream, the more you savor her, the smoother she gets.

Then Megumi was like a fresh strawberry—something you want to swallow whole.

| Notes: Don't you dare combine those into "strawberry ice cream", you perv! |

"I'm not cute at all. Onii-chan, you..."

Megumi turned away, but her cheeks were clearly red.

Even though she seemed indifferent, she was actually very happy.

Megumi was a shy tsundere.

You had to dig... slowly.

"Megumi..."

Jun gently held his sister's hand.

"My little sister... is the cutest in the world!"

"Ugh... Onii-chan, that's too cheesy!"

But her voice was soft, and her hand didn't pull away.

Actually, it gripped a little tighter.

Megumi hit her brother's arm, and her face was still red.

But the other hand stayed there.

Instead, she put her fingers together with his.

At that moment, Jun felt like he was holding the entire world in his hand.

All his worries about another world, death, hope of returning home, or even... harems and his "jerk" status disappeared in an instant.

Right now, there was only Megumi—and her warm hand.

_ _

"Everything onii-chan says... is always true, right?"

Megumi looked down, walking slowly beside her brother through the thick forest.

The forest that had once felt dangerous now seemed romantic.

Maybe it was just the two of them, and their unspoken connection.

"Hmph! I'm not talking to onii-chan anymore!"

Megumi turned her face away, her cheeks getting redder and redder.

She was scared. If she kept looking into his eyes, she might lose control.

"Megumi really is the sweetest..."

Jun gently moved his hands together, smiling broadly.

He really felt...

There was nothing to fear.

Even if suddenly—

"GRAWWR!"

That leopard from before was there!

_ _ _

Jun slowly lowered his bow, but remained alert.

If it attacks, I only have two arrows left.

"Megumi, I don't have any more snake meat today."

"Then... what if we try to tame it?"

"Huh?"

Jun looked at his sister, feeling confused and scared.

"If we can... it could protect us at night... then you could rest too..."

She was serious.

Jun looked back at the animal, who tilted its head as if waiting.

Tame a leopard? That's like something you'd see in an RPG video game.

The problem was that Jun didn't know how to tame animals.

"I'd love to, Megumi. But I don't have the skills to raise a leopard."

"Don't worry..."

Megumi took a step forward, then bent down in front of the leopard.

"If it likes me, that means it's safe, right?"

Jun: ...Huh? So now even wild animals are joining my group of favorites?

My little sister knew a lot about plants, but not about animals.

But maybe Utaha-senpai at camp, or Ginko and the others, could eventually learn to tame animals.

Unfortunately, due to limited time, their stats weren't high enough to unlock those abilities yet.

"Are you sure you can handle this?"

Even though she had seen her brother's archery, Megumi still felt worried.

"Don't worry. I think I can fix this without damaging it."

Jun confidently set aside his two boar-tusk arrows and instead prepared five sharp wooden ones.

If my sister doesn't want me to be cruel, fine. This time, I'll handle the leopard gently.

Jun had chosen where to aim.

The sound of the water moving back and forth is heard.

He shot five wooden arrows from his bow at the same time.

"GRAWR! AARH!"

The leopard wasn't expecting an attack, so it couldn't react quickly enough.

The sound of a heartbeat can be described as "thud, thud, thud, thud, thud."

All five arrows hit the target with precision, around its legs and near its head.

Grrrr! Grrrr!

The leopard flinched, expecting pain. But as it rolled around, it realized none of the arrows had actually hit it—only the ground nearby.

Even so, it was clearly scared. It made a low sound like a growl, turned, and went into the forest.

"Onii-chan... that was amazing..."

Megumi was surprised by how well her brother could shoot. Five arrows hit their target at the same time, each one in the right place.

Could my brother really do something like that?

He had never joined the kyudo club, and he had never even studied archery before.

Megumi and Jun walked to where the leopard had gone and picked up the five arrows that were deeply stuck in the ground.

"This must be an ability granted by this world, huh, Nii-Chan?"

Megumi pulled the bottom of her shirt.

"Well, you could say that. "I'm surprised by how accurate I've been."

Jun didn't hide his ability from her.

"It makes sense that you're always so confident when you go into the forest..."

Megumi put the arrows back in the quiver.

It was strange, but her brother was still reliable.

Megumi smiled and patted the back of his jacket, brushing off leaves and grass.

"Of course. Without this ability, I would never have dared to bring you into this strange forest..."

After getting his bow and arrows ready again, Jun held his sister's small hand and continued on to their second camp, which was already marked on their map.

_ _ _

The Dragonback Tribe.

The cannibal tribe chief had brought his two followers close to the tribe's territory.

The Cannibal Tribe and the Dragonback Tribe, two island tribes, didn't interact much, but they knew a little about each other.

For example...

The chief led his followers to the Dragonback's gate.

After a series of "Ula!" and "Ugna!" shouts,

He gave a beast's fang from his necklace to the guard, and the guard let him in.

The whole tribe area was covered in strange symbols—both ♂ and ♀ signs everywhere.

Before entering fully, the gate guard touched the cannibal chief's butt.

His two followers fared worse. The chief figured someone had slipped up when they heard the angry shouts of "Ularala."

Somehow, a tribe with such unique beliefs and a philosophical way of life survived in this harsh island environment.

The cannibal chief knew that the Dragonback Tribe was more likely to pair men with men and women with women. Male-female pairs were rare.

It was a miracle that this tribe was able to survive.

Soon after, the chief was taken into a wooden hut covered with strange philosophical symbols, where he met the Dragonback Tribe's leader.

The man had a muscular, balding body, but he had a lot of energy.

The cannibal chief was already overwhelmed by the overly friendly welcome from the leader.

His tribe also often went shirtless, but this tribe's clothing...

The chief had a hard time dealing with how they looked, but he had a reason for coming. So, even though he had strong feelings about it, he didn't say anything.

"Ulaa... Ula, Ugna..."

"Ulala uu uu oh..."

The two chiefs started to chat, and it seemed friendly.

Ah, right—you probably can't understand their language yet?

Alright, let me translate again.

Cannibal Chief: "Your tribe is strong..."

Dragonback Chief: "Your body is also very strong."

_ _ _

The Cannibal Chief chose to ignore the now... philosophical mood.

"I need some women. What do I have to trade to get them?"

He finally spoke, looking uncomfortable.

"Women? What's the point? If you want men, I can give you some for free..."

The Dragonback Chief didn't know that the Cannibal Tribe now only had three members left.

If he had, the Cannibal Chief might not have left here alive.

Still, the Dragonback Chief seemed interested in him.

"No, no, I need women. What's the price?"

The Cannibal Chief repeated.

"You're thinking too narrowly, stranger. Many things women can do, men can too."

The Dragonback Chief spoke passionately about his tribe's beliefs:

Unfortunately, the Cannibal Chief didn't care. He was determined to achieve his goal.

Finally, the Dragonback Chief pointed outside, at the Cannibal Chief's two followers.

The message was clear: trade them for a woman.

"No way!"

The Cannibal Chief shook his head and pulled out a long, sharp spear from his back.

He wanted to trade the spear for a woman.

That's ridiculous—those two were the only people left in his tribe. If they were gone, who would rebuild it?

After some more discussions, the Dragonback Chief, not wanting to, led them to a wooden fence.

Behind the fence stood a woman. She was the ugliest person in their tribe.

The Cannibal Chief almost threw up.

His followers had already done so.

The girl was short, wrapped tightly in grass clothes, hiding everything but her face. Her face was pale like a dead body.

Her skin was cold and blue, and her face looked dead.

That little stiff face was truly repulsive. By any standard, he is even worse than the two pale women they recently captured and caged.

A woman like this was useless.

"Ula! Ula!"

The Cannibal Chief wanted a better one.

"Ula... Nala!"

But the Dragonback Chief didn't think the spear was worth more. Even this woman was too generous.

In the end, the Cannibal Chief reluctantly accepted, feeling disgusted and angry.

He gave the fanged spear to the Dragonback Chief, who, the longer he looked at her, made him want to kill someone.

Deep down, the Cannibal Chief promised himself that one day, when his tribe was strong again, he would come back here, take all their women, kill every man, and destroy their stupid beliefs.

"Ula... Ula..."

His followers complained when they were ordered to carry the woman.

"Ula ula-na!"

Stop complaining! Carry her! Now!

The Cannibal Chief was in a bad mood.

"Uu… uu…"

The savage girl wrapped in grass looked down, her face full of sadness.

She wrapped herself tightly to protect herself from the beatings and mocking that her tribe would do whenever they saw her body.

To her, she was the ugliest creature among the savage ones.

And she believed that.

With a soft whisper, she pulled her clothes in even tighter.

She was scared.

She was afraid that these strangers would treat her just as badly as everyone else she had ever known.
