Chapter 62 - A Painful Mistake

"Luna...?" Marika whispered as her lover stared at her. Six eyes all began to shed tears as she could feel the pain suddenly bleeding off of her. She could see memories flooding into her eyes as the one began to fade. "Luna?!"

"He's... gone..." Her words struck against Marika's heart in waves.

"He.." Before the memory of her lover's spouse struck against her. "H-"

"I can see it all now... everything... my whole existence... gods, my eyes... the Storm..." She fell to her knees as Marika's embraced her. "Stop... it...!"

Marika could hear Ranni, Melina, Blaidd, Fia, and Malli rushing towards them from their spot, and she raised a hand as a spell blocked them. She could feel something coming, something dangerous. She would not leave her lover to rot in this pain that had awakened in her.

"Marika... my powers are re...turning..." Marika saw a circle begin to form of a strange black glow.

"... Can we stop it?"

"I..." She could see the overwhelming pain and chose to take a risk. If it was good enough for storybooks...

She kissed her. She kissed her wife as her barrier shrunk down, focusing all her abilities in this singular moment. 'Great mother... Guide me now...' She prayed within as she closed her eyes and embraced Luna.

Ranni watched in unashamed awe. She watched whatever curse was trying to consume their dear moonlit knight being contained by woven and twisting fields of faith-based magic. Condensed and slipped slowly beneath the skin in lines barely wider than a hair, yet each made from dozens of fused rings.

Fia was in utter reverential nliss. She saw them at that moment. Luna's full identity, the depth of her truth. The Black Flame kindling inside of her heart.

Melina was banging angrily against the barrier at first. "Let me in!" Her eyes burned. She wouldn't let her friend hurt like she. She had no idea what to do, but watching her where she could do nothing was so much worse! "Mother! MOM!"

"I can save- "

"Don't you dare be a martyr beside me again! I have inly yet begun to know you truly as your daughter!" Melina stepped back*

Ranni looked at her and knew there was no stopping her candle. Fia grasped her one hand and Ranni the other.

"Be safe." Both made her promise, and she nodded. It had become a chant for when they needed to trust each other.

She rushed forward, wrapping herself around the two as the magic condensed inside the fox. She could feel fire inside, but it was unlike ajy flame she had ever felt. She delved inside and took the plunge into the mindscape of their fox.

What she found was fragments.
