Chapter 18 - Confessions

Chapter 19: Crossroads and Confessions

The gala was glittering with the city's elite, the perfect backdrop for business deals and subtle power plays. But behind the dazzling smiles and crystal glasses, a darker game was unfolding.

Lilian moved with practiced grace, her elegant gown hiding the sharpness in her eyes. She had one goal tonight: to reclaim what she believed was hers — Elias's attention, his body, his loyalty.

When the opportunity arose, she slipped a small, almost invisible pill into Elias's drink. A moment later, she was by his side, her voice soft and coaxing.

"Elias, you look tense. Let me help you relax."

But as the drug took hold, fogging his mind and dulling his senses, Elias fought against the pull. Something inside him screamed that this wasn't right.

With a sudden surge of will, he pushed Lilian away, steadying himself.

"No," he said firmly, his eyes clearing. "This isn't who I am. And it's not what I want."

Lilian's smile flickered, replaced by a cold, calculating glare.

Meanwhile, Aria had sensed something was wrong. She had followed subtle clues—whispers from the staff, Lilian's lingering glances, Elias's unusual behavior. The truth hit her hard.

Later that night, Elias sought Aria out. His face was pale but determined.

"Aria, I need to tell you what happened," he began, voice steady despite the turmoil inside.

She listened as he recounted Lilian's betrayal and his refusal to succumb.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner," he confessed, "but I couldn't bear the thought of hurting you."

Aria's heart softened. The walls she had built around herself began to crumble.

Then, in a moment that stunned everyone, Elias took her hand in front of the gathered crowd the next day—during a crucial business announcement—and declared, "Aria, I love you. Not as a contract or a duty, but with everything I am."

The room fell silent. Eyes turned to Aria, who met his gaze with a mixture of surprise and hope.

The words marked a turning point—not just for Elias and Aria, but for the fragile trust they had been building.
