As they walked through the forest, something felt strange as if eyes were watching from all angles, one from above, one from the sides and others surrounding them and getting closer and closer, the two felt unsettled and uncomfortable, and a cold sweat broke out and panic rose, suddenly, they heard footsteps, heavy, soft and approaching.
Alden turned around sharply and his eyes widened in horror seeing something that resembled a human being but was far from it.
"Caleb... Run..." He said quietly, staring at the creature not daring to look away, Caleb turned to look and froze in his tracks
He grabbed Alden's hand and ran fast, he heard the silence at first, nothing except his and Alden's heavy breathing and footsteps as well as his heartbeat. His blood ran cold when he heard the creature seemingly give chase
"Alden! Run faster!" Caleb yelled urgently
"What does it look like I'm doing, dipshit!?" Alden asked sarcastically, obviously agitated and frightened
Alden turned to look, panting as adrenaline rushed through his veins
There were more of those creatures and it was frightening, its eyes were wide and its grin was wide, uncanny. It looked human but its face says otherwise. It ran like how a human would but its movements were overly exaggerated, looking like it was dislocated and then snapping back in place with every movement, it made both Alden and Caleb's skin crawl
Caleb's grip became rather painful but Alden couldn't care less with the adrenaline and horror he felt.
"Alden! Are we close to the abandoned school you mentioned!? I'm getting tired!" Caleb exclaimed loudly
"I don't even fucking know where we're heading at this point!" Alden blurted out, running like there was no tomorrow
"What!?" Caleb shouted, disbelief evident in his tone
"You were leading and I'm scared ok!?" Alden added hurriedly
"Fine! Fine! Just lead the way! Before we get eaten by those creatures!" Caleb exclaimed
"I-i can't think with these things chasing us!" Alden complained
Caleb groaned loudly "Climb a tree then! I don't think they can climb!"
Alden nodded and jumped on the first three he found, climbing it like a fucking madman
Caleb followed and both of them sat on a branch, looking down at the creatures below
It looked like the hoard of... Something... Stopped and looked around as if confused, then it started to morph into deformed black bodies that also resembled that of humans but they were disfigured and bending in ways that were supposed to be humanly impossible... One hand elongated limbs, one had a long neck like that of noodles and one had no limbs at all but fingers sticking out of its body, it all had one thing in common though, they're eyes were void black, their skin was impossibly white and stained with what seemed like blood
Alden's face paled at the horrific scene and Caleb mirrored Alden's expression, their eyes wide if that was even possible as they watched the creatures slowly start blending in with the trees and surroundings
Both slumped in relief noticing the creatures didn't notice them in the tree, a sigh of relief escaping Alden and Caleb leaning against the tree trunk
"What're we going to do...? We can't just jump down there and wing it..." Caleb whispered
Alden sighed and nodded "You have a point but what else are we going to do?" Alden muttered.
Caleb looked at the surroundings when a moment of realization crossed his expression, he looked behind him and at the tree trunk
"The creatures... They blended in with their surroundings so..." Caleb thought, his eyes widening once more.
"Alden... Jump down..." Caleb mumbled carefully
"What? Why? And risk getting eaten by those... Things?"
"Yes...! Jump down...!" Caleb demanded urgently, his voice coming out in a whisper-yell
Caleb watched Alden go down cautiously but he needed him to go faster, one of the creatures that was chasing them was right behind him blended into the tree trunk with its eyes closed.
Once Alden's feet hit the ground Caleb directly jumped down, grabbing Alden's wrist and pulling him close to cover his mouth firmly, they're faces inches apart
"Mph?" Alden tried speaking but was muffled by Caleb's mouth to his annoyance
Slowly, Caleb led both of them away from the area
"Point the way..." Caleb said, thinking they were safe.
Alden started walking quietly with Caleb trailing behind him, glancing over his shoulder more times than necessary

"What?" Alden muttered questiononly, almost incoherently.
"You didn't tell me about those creatures..."
"Because I didn't know they existed" Alden paused before adding "If I knew I wouldn't want to run away here"
"Do you want to go back?" Caleb asked
Alden shook his head and kept walking "No"
"Any reason why?" Caleb caught up to Alden
"Not really, but don't you want to live a life full of adrenaline and adventure? Here it is!" Alden confessed enthusiastically
Caleb sighed "Your gonna be the death of me one day"
"Let's die side by side then." Alden grinned, looking at Caleb "Let's fight those monsters together, like the saying said right? Till death do us part"
Caleb's breath bitch as he stared at Alden before a smile spread across his face "That's used for couples, dumbass" Caleb said
Alden laughed languidly and continued walking
"As long as we're quiet the creatures won't chase right, mister know it all?" Alden asked
Caleb nodded "Are we close?"
"Almost there..."
