Volume 1 Chapter 3: This Is Just Ridiculous

So, in the end, Wen Yang didn't go on his date.

The first R18+ scene from the novel didn't happen.

Would that mean… the rest of the story wouldn't happen either?

Ning Chu walked a few steps behind his three roommates, head down, staring at his feet while lost in thought.

Probably not. The novel was made up of short, loosely connected stories. Even if one chapter didn't happen, the next might just start anyway.

Still, he had to at least try.

He let out a heavy sigh.

After spending more time around them, it was getting harder to imagine Wen Yang turning into the typical hentai protagonist. He also really didn't want to see Zhang Shaoqing transform into the immoral, unhinged villain from the book.

The worst part? His own role in the novel… seemed to be a girl.

The kind that ended up with an ahegao after a sex with a man.

Even if he told himself he was just overthinking things, that he was obviously a normal guy—even if he is a bit short—there was no way he'd suddenly become a girl… right?

"Let's eat at this Sichuan place?"

Wham

Ning Chu spaced out and walked straight into Zhang Shaoqing's back, headbutting him.

Ning Chu clutched his nose in pain and stumbled two steps back.

Zhang Shaoqing didn't even flinch. He turned around in confusion. "Why'd you walk into me?"

"…Whatever."

"Only if you're paying," Wang Jie chimed in from the side. "Is this place good?"

"Not really. But if you spend over 200 yuan, they give you a free case of beer."

Ning Chu rubbed his sore, red nose in pain.

He followed his three roommates into a private room at the restaurant, sitting down distractedly with his chin in his palm, eyes fixed blankly on a painting on the wall.

"He's spacing out again. What does he think about all day?" Zhang Shaoqing glanced at the dazed Ning Chu, then picked up a menu. "Come on, let's order. Don't try to save me money."

Wen Yang and Wang Jie knew Zhang Shaoqing wasn't short on cash, but they still stuck to ordering cheap dishes.

By the time the food arrived, the case of beer had already been opened.

Ning Chu was snapped out of his thoughts by a gentle push. Wen Yang was sitting next to him and had already filled his glass with beer.

"Drink a little? Don't just zone out—join in."

"Mm."

Ning Chu casually pushed the glass back. "I'm allergic to alcohol. I'll have Coke."

In a world this dangerous, surrounded by both the protagonist and the villain, there was no way he was risking alcohol.

What if it triggered some plot event ahead of schedule?

He walked to the fridge, grabbed a Coke, and came back—only to notice Wen Yang's eyes were still on him.

'Why is he staring at me?'

Ning Chu was sensitive to being watched, and he could clearly feel Wen Yang's gaze following him—from when he left the room to when he came back.

"…What?"

"You look like you've put on weight." Wen Yang muttered and turned away.

Put on weight?

Ning Chu scratched his head and looked down at himself.

Sure, he was sitting kind of slouched, but his stomach was still flat. His body was already skinny—there was no way he looked fatter.

Where was the weight?

He glanced at his belly, then at his legs in shorts, then his slender arms… and finally, his chest.

Nothing looked off.

"Military training starts tomorrow, huh?" Wen Yang leaned to the side to make room for the waiter, then groaned. "My friends all start training after National Day. Why are we going so early?"

"Hell if I know. Go ask the genius school administrators."

Once the dishes were on the table, the four of them ate and drank with gusto.

Even though Ning Chu had a million worries on his mind, he still dug into the food like the rest of them.

What's the point of overthinking? Might as well eat first.

Even if he really is the girl fated to be pushed down by his roommate in the story… that wasn't something he needed to deal with tonight.

They left the dorm around six and didn't finish eating until after eight.

Wen Yang stood up first, looking at the passed-out Wang Jie slumped over the table and Zhang Shaoqing trying to drink from an empty beer bottle. He sighed. "Knew they'd get wasted again."

"Come on, we'll—" He turned to look at Ning Chu's tiny frame, then shook his head in resignation. "I'll carry them back."

"I'll help."

Ning Chu was more than happy to avoid being the pack mule. He got up and helped lift Wang Jie and Zhang Shaoqing, draping them over Wen Yang's shoulders one on each side.

Wen Yang had a drunk guy hanging off each shoulder. He stood up and took a step forward—only to immediately sway left and right, nearly toppling over.

"This won't work…" Ning Chu frowned, then jogged out of the private room. "Put them down—wait for me!"

"Where are you going?"

Wen Yang looked worried, but all he saw was Ning Chu's back disappearing through the door.

His expression turned a little strange. After a pause, he muttered to himself, "Why does his back view look kinda like a girl's?"

In less than a few minutes, Ning Chu returned, proudly wheeling in a small trolley. "I borrowed this from the kitchen," he said, grinning. "Bit dirty, but I doubt those two will care."

It was a four-wheeled cart typically used by the restaurant to transport ingredients—not very big, but it'd do.

"Nice!" Wen Yang looked impressed.

He'd always assumed that Ning Chu was just introverted and shy. He hadn't expected him to negotiate with the restaurant staff and come back with a solution so quickly.

Zhang Shaoqing, at least, wasn't fully passed out yet. He obediently sat down on the cart, hugging his knees and curling up to take up less space.

Wang Jie barely managed to squeeze in next to him. The two grown men stuffed together on a cart barely one meter wide looked like two oversized, pouty toddlers.

"If they roll back to campus like this, their reputations will be in ruins by tomorrow," Wen Yang chuckled, pushing the cart forward. But when he glanced back, he caught Ning Chu flinching and hurriedly hiding his phone behind his back.

"It's fine," Wen Yang said casually. "Snap all the blackmail material you want—just send me a couple pics when we get back."

Eyes lighting up at the permission, Ning Chu went to town capturing photos of the two drunkards from every unflattering angle, saving each gem in his phone.

Wen Yang glanced over at this unusually energetic side of Ning Chu, eyes unconsciously drifting to his snow-white, slender legs sticking out from his shorts—like smooth, carved lotus roots. His expression softened, though there was a flicker of hesitation behind his eyes.

"You wanna ask something?" Ning Chu noticed his odd look and offered an explanation: "There's just been some stuff going on at home recently, so I haven't been in the mood to talk. That's why I've seemed withdrawn."

"No, I was going to say… you…"

"Hm?"

Wen Yang's gaze flicked subtly over Ning Chu's waist, legs, and hips, unsure where to start. "…Forget it."

"You're weird—you always stop halfway through your sentences. Suspense much?"

Ning Chu turned to glare at him, the corner of his lips twitching with irritation. His big, bright eyes were so full of life that even when angry, he looked more like a girl playfully pouting than actually upset.

"Spit it out! What were you gonna ask?"

"Uh… What kind of body wash do you use? I noticed the scent during dinner. Smelled nice."

Ning Chu paused, confused. He lowered his head to sniff his arm. "What scent? I'm drenched in sweat—it's gotta be BO."

"…Really?"

Ning Chu's expression instantly darkened. "What else would it be?"

The mounting signs were giving Ning Chu serious anxiety.

More and more, it felt like his role in this world really was that of the girl from the novel—the one hiding in the boys' dorm and ending up pinned under Wen Yang.

Absolutely. Insane.

Other transmigrators either got to be the main character, rising to glory, or at worst, they became villains with dramatic arcs and revenge plots.

But him?

He got stuck as one of the lucky ladies fated to be railed by the protagonist!
