Chapter 4 - Bookworm System

"What kind of physique is this? Is it rare? Like… those invincible types?"

A soft ding echoed

[System Prompt]

Physique Information: Extreme Yang Physique

The Extreme Yang Physique is one of the rarest physiques in this world. Only a few have ever been recorded, mostly in ancient clans. It contains an extremely high level of Yang Qi that cannot be cultivated through normal means. To grow , it requires the absorption of Yin through special methods and high-quality resources. This physique thrives in dual cultivation, especially with partners who possess powerful Yin attributes.

"Huh? What's that?" Yuan muttered after reading the prompt.

But no matter how long he waited, there is no response from system.

After a moment of thought, he let out a sigh "I should probably read some books from this world. Maybe I'll find something useful"

Carefully, he stood up from the bed, moved to the door, and opened it just enough to peek out. Seeing no one in the hallway, he slipped out like a thief sneaking away after a job.

Luckily, the path to the library was clear in his memories. He moved through the silent corridors, avoiding the spots where the floor creaks, until he finally reached the old library.

It was a wide room shelves stacked high with scrolls and books, the faint scent of ink and paper filling the air.

Yuan's eyes sparkled a little 'So many books surely something useful has to be here'

He started checking the shelves, picking up one book after another Qi Breathing Techniques, Correct Postures, Foundations of Qi Circulation.

"Ugh… all beginner stuff" he muttered, putting them back. what he wanted was a book can give a rough idea about this worlds cultivation, physiques or anything can help him make sense of this world, beyond the scraps of memory he had.

Then, his hand brushed against something. A book bound in light green silk, its title written in elegant, faded letters.

"Hm? This is…"He brought it closer "My Fairy–"

But before he could finish reading, a deep voice echoed behind him

"Xu Yuan… what brings you here?"

Yuan flinched, almost dropping the book. Looking up, he saw an old man sitting a little distance away, half-hidden behind a tall stack of books, his eyes buried in the pages.

Yuan quickly bowed "Ah… Elder Gu, forgive me. I didn't notice you"

This old man, Elder Gu Shen, was the library's in-charge. With long white hair tied back, a short snow-colored beard, and wore plain gray elder robes.

Closing the book in his hands, Gu Shen stood and slowly made his way toward Yuan, his hands tucked behind his back.

"Didn't you know it's forbidden to enter the library without my permission?"

"But, Elder Gu… the door was open so I thought–" Yuan answered, scratching his cheek.

"Oh? I thought Miss… ahem, someone else would be coming to borrow a book," Gu Shen coughed awkwardly, glancing at the entrance.

Then, he sighed, waving his hand "Aiye~ Forget it. Since you're already here… what is it you're looking for?"

Before Yuan could answer, a thought came to his mind 'Its difficult to read this old man' and then something appeared before his eyes.

[Analyzing…]

Still reads love stories to this day. The book currently in his hands 'A Thousand Nights With My Fairy Senior Sister'. His favorite auther is Fairy Qian Ling

Current Mood: Was waiting for Elder Xu Lian to return a book. Sadly, some brat ruined his moment.

Yuan's lips twitched 'Tsk… isn't this system a little too arrogant And what kind of weird romance book is that…?'

"This is the first time I've seen you here" Elder Gu Shan said, his voice calm

"Ahaha~ Elder Gu, I just came to find a book… but I don't know if it's here," Yuan replied with a sheepish grin.

"Book? Which book?"

"Well… its something about this worl– world's history, stories, cultivation… maybe about Yin Qi and physiques too"

Hearing those words, Elder Gu Shan's gaze sharpened. He stared at Yuan for a long moment, a hint of suspicion in his eyes.

"Hm…"

He turned and brought over a small stack of five books, placing them on hands of Yuan with a soft thud "You can read these"

Yuan lowered his head to check their titles, but before he could even finish reading the first, Elder Gu Shan cut him off "Alright, you can go now"

Bowing politely, he holding the books and walked toward the door. As he stepped out into the hallway, he straightened his back and walked with a lofty, unhurried pace.

At a distance, a few disciples were muttering to one another, their eyes flickering toward him. Yuan noticed but didn't care 'Hmph… with a face like this, it's really difficult to avoid attention.'

Before long, he reached the door to his room — but just as his hand touched the door, a voice called out from behind.

"Yuan"

His feet froze. A cold shiver ran down his back. Turning slowly, he saw Xu Lingxi standing there, arms crossed under her chest, her expression sharp.

"I told you to rest in your room," she said, in low voice.

"Ahaha~ It's not like that... I… I was just thinking of reading some books," Yuan answered

Lingxi stepped closer. Now the hallway felt a little cold to yuan.

"You're really sick," she said.

"Huh?"

"Suddenly talking about nonsense," she muttered. Lingxi was genuinely shocked. Yuan had always been the kind of person who did things his way, never listening to anyone. And now, he was talking about reading books and cultivation by himself?

"I'm fine. Really," Yuan said with a grin. after a small pause "I just thought I should learn more about cultivation."

She stared at him in silence for a moment. Then, without warning, she stepped forward and hugged him tightly.

"Oh my… really?"

Yuan blinked, feeling her soft warmth against him.

"Yeah… really"
