Avery is lungs burned as they ran through the winding streets dodging pedestrians and cars . She did not dare look back fearing what she might see .
Finally after what felt like an eternity Ryker stopped in front of a nondescript building . "In here , he said pushing open the door .
Avery stumbled inside gasping for breath . The building was a small warehouse and on looking around she saw that it was filled with strange and wondrous objects .
Lyra smiled as her eyes shone with amusement . " Welcome to our sanctuary ," she said .
Kael nodded as his eyes scanned the room . " We shall be safe here ," he said . " For a while , at least ."
Avery is eyes widened as she took in the sights and sounds of their safe place . There were strange glowing orbs and shelves filled with ancient - looking tomes . In the center of the room was a large crystal - like structure radiating with energy .
Ryker smiled his eyes meeting Averys . " This is where we come to hide ," he said . "To escape the dangers of our world."
Avery felt relieved . She had never seen anything like this before .
On looking around she knew that they could not stay here forever because Julian would eventually find them .
She turned to Ryker and they locked eyes on each other . " We need to come up with a plan ," she said . " We need to figure out how to defeat Julian once and for all ."
Ryker nodded with serious eyes . " I know ," he said . " But for now let us just rest . We shall figure it out in the morning."
Avery nodded , feeling relief . She knew that they would face dangers tomorrow but for now she was safe .
As she drifted off to sleep surrounded by the strange and wondrous objects of the safe place she knew that she would do whatever it took to protect herself and her friends .
