"Were you intruding?" Selina asked.
Zane cleared his throat and said, "I was just passing by on my way to my room next door."
Her brows deepened in suspicion.
"Why is your room next door?"
"This is my mansion, and I should be free to choose my room without it being a problem," Zane replied, his voice tinged with firmness.
"Absolutely. It shouldn't be a problem as long as I don't see your face before my door like I am now. Remember our rules," Selina countered, her tone cool.
Silence settled between them, their expressions tight with uncertainty as their eyes met for a fleeting moment beneath the golden glow of the chandelier. Each seemed to search for something neither was willing to say. The cool night air felt heavier around them, thick with questions left unspoken.
