Chapter 5 - Chapter 4, Act 1 - Great and Sudden Change

Notes: Yeah, our team finally makes it Kyoto but the situation in the city so chaotic that they need move fast to Tokyo - plus they don't have much time left before Nagoya's destroyed. As a side note, I think y'know who also got transported to the past - and this character will appear in the near future. But the train scene was a pain in the ass to write. So just enjoy (please excuse, my shitty English, I'm dyslectic) <3.

Chapter Summary: Izuku, Iris and Kouji finally arrive at Kyoto but the situation in the city is so bad that they need get out of there fast. But the Rogues stage a revolt and this clashes in a bloody battle near the train station. Meanwhile Izuku dreams of his Quirk "Green Flare".

TW: Genocide, murder, gore (the same level of violence back in the bridge scene but longer & more vivid descriptions), mentions of starvation and child abuse

Izuku's PoV

We woke up around 8:00 A.M which was good because we had time to recover our strength after a long and exhaustive walk from Osaka. Though I was super glad that we made it to Kyoto not only physically unscathed but also on time, the situation in the city was making me uncomfortable. It was clear as day that people were panicking - many considered to running away, not only from the city itself but abroad.

I considered this as an option but it would be way harder to survive in a foreign land, so me and Iris decided to create a plan after we ate breakfast. Get to Tokyo, find a refugee camp and then start working, taking multiple part - time jobs. Gather enough money to rent an apartment and to do our best to afford living conditions for Kouji.

Kid's situation was making things complicated, because he didn't have any relatives. Also it was obvious that he feared adults - when we entered Kyoto, Kouji was scared and agitated. Iris talked to me about her worries that Kouji might have been abused by his parents due to his Quirk. Though I started calling Quirks, Meta - Abilities or just simply Meta.

Iris said that we need to rest but I refused to agree with her reasoning - sure, we were exhausted but we had to keep going, just a little longer. People of Kyoto were constantly panicking, glaring at the Quirked people with fear or disgust or both. People fear unknown - and Quirks were something new, quite fresh. That kind of backlash was to be expected but it wasn't much different from the Quirkless situation back in my times.

When I went to the grocery to buy food and water, the cashier didn't want to sell to the last can of salmon with tomatoes. I asked why, but he said that people with Meta Abilities didn't deserve it. He said that they were tainted - he correctly assumed that I had a Quirk and wanted to grab my eyepatch. Because I didn't want to make any unnecesarry fuss, I quickly paid for my stuff and promply left the store. When I was leaving, the cashier began screaming that thanks to people with Meta - Abilities, the city is in a grave danger.

I told Iris about what happened, and while enraged, she finally agreed to leave Kyoto by the train as soon as possible. Though she added that Kouji is exhausted and in Tokyo, he will need a few days of rest to keep going. I took her advice to heart but it was the moment that I realised that I didn't know how to raise a 6 - year old deeply traumatized boy.

But Iris seemed to know what to do - when he had a nightmare, she calmed him down and soothed him to sleep. But it was clear that she couldn't keep up with raising a kid and making through the whole ordeal alone. So we discussed our plans for Kouji - I'll be responsible for his survival, i.e - keeping him fed etc. While Iris will be the one teaching the kid and raising him until I'm ready. It seemed like a good deal.

I hoped so.

So when late afternoon came, we packed our stuff and walked to the station. But the line to the ticket counter was super long - so we had to wait for our turn for like 4 hours. In the meantime I saw families - weeping, panicking or constantly checking the news. The whole Japan was in a state of complete disarray and panic - the authorities were useless, when the dealing with not only the Rogues but other terrorist organizations.

Meaning that many people, especially those with Quirks/Meta - Abilities were on their own. Those waited and checked the news, were constantly screaming that Kyoto's mayor still didn't give a stance on the Meta's.

So after 4 hours of waiting we were finally able to buy tickets. But that's when I realized something important - I didn't have any documents on myself. The cashier also knew that, I saw that in his eyes but he still went ahead and allowed us to buy tickets, though those without a discount. It was fair in my mind. When he passed the tickets to stunned Iris, he gave us a small, warm smile.

-"I have a daughter in your age. She has a Meta - Ability but currently lives abroad until the situation here stabilizes. Whatever you plan to do in Tokyo, I wish you good luck. Don't make me regret this and stay alive, kiddos. That's the very least what I can do" - the cashier revealed

Iris was moved, Kouji didn't quite grasp the situation and I was shocked.

-"Thank you, sir. We won't forget your kindness" - Iris replied and gave him a small bow

We left the ticket counter and waited 15 minutes - and then the train arrived. But 5 minutes later, we heard a series of explosions - on the city's horizon, I saw orange flames and clouds of smoke. Then the fireworks came in with a characteristic symbol - logo of the Rogues. People started screaming and running and we started to push through other desperate passengers - we finally made it to our seats.

When we sat down, I realized that Iris wasn't here. I looked through the window saw the massacre - the Rogues came to the station.

One woman had her crotch split open and her eyeballs gauged out and shoved up to the mouth. Next to her, there was man with his arms amputated and his head severed from the rest of his body. Then on my right, I saw that kind cashier - skinned alive, his head impaled on a wooden pike. The other cashier, probably a co - worker had his bones broken, again and again. The broken bones pierced through his skin, his head smashed to a bloody pulp. A pregnant woman had her stomach crushed like how I peeled through tangerine's skin. Her spine was ripped out of back and shoved into her crotch.

Then I felt an elbow in my ribs, and saw Iris with her face, clothes covered in fresh blood. She sat down next to the window - in her right hand, she held a rifle.

-"If I can't use my Qui-Meta Ability, then I have to do this the old way" - she declared whispering

When the train started to move, many Rogues still tried to enter it, despite the door being already locked. Iris smashed the window with her gun, and then she leaned out - her finger was already on the trigger. Iris knew her target the moment she side - eyed it. She pulled the trigger, the train was moving - one was down. Poof! Again. Another body lied dead. Poof! Again. But her fourth target fired back in his last moments.

I jumped forward and put her head down - the bullet missed the spot and pierced through the air. Iris checked the area and saw no close targets, she returned her to seat like in phase. I hid the gun under the seats and gave her a tissue to clean up her face. We were lucky that this car was pretty much empty - I saw the look in Iris eyes. She was dissociating, probably because she killed someone. The look on her face was haunted, traumatized.

-"Do you have any fresh clothes?" - I asked her

-"Y-Yeah....I-I think so" - she replied shakely

-"When the train stops, change them" - I adviced her -"You cannot walk around in bloodied clothes when we arrive".

Iris nodded in reply - then Kouji placed his hand on her arm. She almost flinched and looked back at Kouji, who hugged her. She turned the hug and wipped the remains of blood and tears from her face with her sleeve.

-"Thank you, Kouji...Thank you so much" - she whispered

-"For...f-for what?" - he questioned

-"Thank you...f-for comforting me" - she anwsered

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was in black, endless Void - I was naked with my mouth covered with a dark mist. Then I realized that I was floating in the space - there was nothing but serenity, empty promises of the infinity. Sweet alluring voices that promised of eternity whispered into my ear. I frowned and then, at the end of the Void I saw flickering green star. It's glow not only promised hope but also power - two in one. But what was the most important is the star reminded me of One for All, specifically of it's aura and sensation.

I ran and grasped the star with my right hand. The star flashed and the world became blindingly white - when I opened my eyes, I was on a field - scorched wasteland. A figure dressed in a black robe, katana and long, brown shoes emitted a green glow. The figure pointed a finger at a nearby tree - streams of emerald energy from the tree and gathered around the finger. A green flames appeared in hand but then it changed to a green lightning.

Then I felt something rumbling - I lost my footing and my eyes were forced to be closed.

Ending Notes: The train station scene maybe too brutal, but most of the casualties (and the level violence presented) was taken from the historical records - to be more specific from the Chinese Revolution and both World Wars.
