Elroe Fire Wyrmlings, a lower-level species of the Elroe Fire Wyrm, are the catfish's pre-evolution form. Commonly called seahorses, they have a seahorse-like appearance with arms and legs. They are lower-level dragon-type monsters that usually swim in the magma, searching for food. They use physical attacks against other middle-layer monsters and fireballs against invaders from the upper and lower layers. However, being simple-minded, they resort to physical attacks when their MP runs out, charging recklessly. If their opponent is too strong, they'll flee.
Though the same species, their meat differed greatly from the catfish; it was dry and tough, lacking the rich oil and delicious texture of the catfish. Kumoko gave it a bad review.
Ryu Takeno didn't mind; he had no sense of taste.
After eating the two seahorses, they continued their systematic sweep. Any monster Ryu Takeno encountered was knocked ashore for Kumoko to kill.
This was partly for shared experience and partly to train Kumoko's combat abilities.
Kumoko didn't complain; companions should fight side-by-side. She wasn't helpless and didn't need constant protection.
Their initial hunt was easy; the seahorses and catfish weren't strong monsters.
Eels were stronger, with stats exceeding 800, but still no match for Ryu Takeno.
Near the center of the middle layer, the prey became more dangerous. Ryu Takeno and Kumoko's thorough hunting method finally angered the area's master.

Ryu Takeno gave Kumoko a nod, then charged at the Blazing Dragon, which was preparing to fire fireballs, knocking it down.

The Blazing Dragon cried out in pain; the fireballs shattered in its mouth. Even if it was its own magic, the explosion still caused damage.

Ryu Takeno, having gained the upper hand, attacked again, his tail wrapped in flames, striking the erect eels with all his might.
He aimed to kill them all in one blow.

The heads of three eels were smashed, instantly killing them. Ryu Takeno was bitten on the neck by the recovered Blazing Dragon and fell into the magma.

Kumoko was extremely worried seeing Ryu Takeno get knocked down.
