The crisp winter air greeted the Hayashi household as the first rays of sunlight peeped through the frosty windows on Christmas morning. A soft thud echoed down the hallway.
"Riku! Riku! It's Christmas!!" Yuki's excited voice rang through the house, bouncing off the walls like a rubber ball. She stormed into Riku's room, her pajamas flapping with each hurried step. "Wake up, wake up! It's finally Christmas! Presents!"
Riku groaned, burying his face further into the pillow. "Calm down, lil' sis… it's too early for this…"
But Yuki wasn't deterred. She jumped onto the bed, causing the whole frame to shake. "No way! I'm too excited!"
Riku chuckled, rubbing his face. "Okay, okay. Let's get this over with…"
Yuki raced to Sayuri's room, throwing open the door. "Mom! Wake up! It's Christmas!!"
A sleepy "Huh? Oh, Yuki..." followed by a groan from Sayuri, but she quickly pulled herself out of bed, realizing it was time to start the holiday celebrations.
The Hayashi family gathered around the tree, the living room softly lit by the glow of fairy lights. Yuki had already dived into the pile of presents, her little hands grabbing hers first. Riku, still half asleep, sat on the couch with a cup of tea, watching his sister excitedly tear through her gifts.
"You really didn't have to get me all this, big bro…" Yuki looked up at him, holding the stuffed dragon plush he had bought for her. It was glowing faintly, its eyes lighting up in the soft darkness of the room. Her snow bunny boots were neatly placed next to her. "This is amazing!"
Riku smiled, brushing his hair back. "You've been eyeing it for weeks, Yuki. You deserve it."
Sayuri, who had just received her framed family photo and the Essence-imbued tea blend, leaned over to give Riku a kiss on the cheek. "Thank you, Riku. This is exactly what I wanted."
Riku's heart warmed as he watched his mother and sister bond over the small gifts. It was the little things that mattered, the moments of connection that were priceless. But it wasn't over yet.
"Alright," Riku said, standing up. "Time to go to the others."
Later That Day — Takumi's House
Takumi was the first to receive his gift. He stood with wide eyes, his usual smirk replaced with surprise as Riku handed him the dual-blade set. The blacksteel blades gleamed in the dim light, their custom engraving of the Kuroda sigil standing out against the polished surface.
Takumi held them in awe. "Damn, Riku… You really outdid yourself. This is… This is perfect." He grinned, clearly happy, his eyes shining with gratitude. "I've been saving up for these for years. How did you know?"
Riku simply smirked. "Let's just say I did some research."
Takumi laughed. "I'll make sure to put these to good use." He gave Riku a playful nudge. "You just wait. One day, I'll be the one getting the top spot."
Renji's Place
Next was Renji, who couldn't hide his excitement when he saw the limited-edition 'Battle Wraith X' manga box set and the holographic Rift Beast card. His face lit up.
"This is… crazy!" Renji held up the box set in disbelief. "Where did you even find this?! This card alone is worth a fortune!"
Riku gave a nonchalant shrug. "You're welcome. Glad I could make your Christmas."
Renji looked at the card, his hand trembling with excitement. "You have no idea how long I've been looking for this… Thanks, man. Seriously."
Reina's Home
Reina was deep into a quiet, reflective moment when Riku showed up with her gift. He handed her the custom music Essence orb that played soothing ocean waves and gentle flute melodies.
"You've been looking a little stressed, Reina," he said gently. "I thought this might help."
She looked at the orb, then at him, her eyes softening. "You're the best, Riku." She carefully cradled the orb, and for a moment, a peaceful expression crossed her face as the sounds filled the room. "I didn't even know I needed something like this."
"You've been working hard," Riku said, his tone more serious. "Take care of yourself too, okay?"
Reina smiled. "Thanks, Riku. You're the one who taught me that."
Yumi's House
Finally, Riku arrived at Yumi's place, holding the last of the gifts. He hesitated for a moment before knocking on the door.
Yumi opened it, surprised to see him standing there, holding a neatly wrapped package.
"Riku? You're here?"
"Yeah," Riku smiled. "I got you something. I know it's a little... unexpected, but I hope you like it."
Yumi's eyes softened as she took the package. As she unwrapped it, her eyes widened when she saw the moonstone combat earrings gleaming inside.
"You remembered…" she whispered. "I— I can't believe you…" She held the earrings in her hands, her voice trailing off.
Riku smirked, but his tone softened. "You've been eyeing them for months, haven't you? Thought it might be time to treat you."
Yumi's face flushed with surprise, and she immediately hugged him. "Thank you so much, Riku. I love them."
After a long moment of hugging, she pulled back, smiling up at him. "You're too kind."
Riku scratched the back of his head, a little embarrassed. "It's nothing. Besides… you've been there for me through everything. This is just my way of saying thanks."
Yumi blushed again. "You really do remember everything, don't you?"
Riku nodded. "Of course. You were one of the few who helped me when things were tough."
The smile that spread across her face was genuine, full of warmth.
After handing her a small card that read: "For the one who always had my back," Riku glanced at her with a mischievous look. "I know what you wanted for Christmas, though…"
Yumi blinked. "Wait… you do?"
Riku grinned. "You wanted more time training with me, didn't you?"
She looked sheepish but didn't deny it. "I didn't say it outright, but yeah… I'd love that."
"Alright," Riku said. "Let's get started."
Training Session — Christmas Sparring
Later that evening, after everyone had received their gifts, Riku and Yumi stood in the yard behind her house, ready for the sparring match they had both been anticipating.
"Ready?" Riku asked, smirking.
Yumi nodded confidently, despite the snowflakes drifting down around them. "Bring it on."
The two of them faced off under the cold, snowy sky.
Their Essences surged, the air crackling with the intensity of their power. Yumi moved first, launching a series of quick strikes, but Riku was quick to dodge and counter.
The fight was fierce but friendly, filled with laughter and the sounds of their combat as they moved gracefully across the snowy ground.
"You're getting stronger," Riku remarked, his voice tinged with pride.
Yumi grinned. "I'm not giving up until I catch up to you, Riku."
And with that, the two of them continued to train and spar, their spirits high and their bond growing even stronger. The Christmas night stretched on, filled with both gifts and moments that neither would forget.
