Chapter 11 - Back to the ship

[Class unlocked: Sky Captain - Sky Sovereign exclusive class - Commanders of the skies and hearts of their crews, Sky Captains command more than just airships—they lead with a presence that elevates all who serve beneath them. A Sky Captain draws strength from their crew's actions, forging a bond that grows with every voyage.]

[Innate skill: Captain's Share — The Sky Captain passively gains 5% of experience earned by nearby allied crewmembers. Additionally, crewmates will receive 5% of the captain's EXP (not including EXP they previously shared). Note: Mimimum of 20 EXP required to activate ]

[Innate skill: Aerial combatant — The Sky Captain and their crew gain combat experience from participating in and winning skyship battles.]

Fuck me this class is OP! If I have a crew of absolute badasses, and we kill a huge group of pirates in combat, I will receive 10% of their EXP as my own, on top of my existing EXP boost.

Another amazing point, going into the dungeons isn't my only way of levelling up anymore. I can get stronger by winning battles in my airship, and so can any of my crewmates!

If I can build a powerful crew, a deadly flagship, and an even more powerful fleet of ships, the sky is the literal limit!

After finishing the registration of her in my crew, I decide that it is time for her to get a tour of her new home, so we make our way towards the ship.

Satisfied with her choice to become the gunner in my crew, Kaelin hums a little tune as we walk down the docks, her head turning excitedly from left to right as she takes in the various ships surrounding her.

'What sort of ship is it?'

'It's called skyrunner. A small passenger-class ship modified for speed and maneuverability, with a few explosive toys strapped onto it, even more after the new stuff is added. It has a high-velocity Aethercore propulsion system and a medium mana shield.

It looks like a speedy little leisure cruiser, but with all the upgrades it has, it can easily deal with small-class pirate ships and run from anything bigger.'

As soon as we arrive at dock 3, Kaelin stops, takes a deep breath, and burns the first vision of the ship into her mind.

The skyrunner might not be big, but it was modeled on a small transport ship meant to provide comfort and style, so if you discount the large turret mounted mana cannon, it is quite a pretty ship.

'Welcome to your new home, my foxy gunner, would you like a tour?'

She follows me on board, and the first place we go is the bridge. I show her my captain's chair, and then the gunner's seat.

'This seat is yours. From here, you will be able to control the rotating mana cannon, the towing harpoon, and the mana torpedoes we will have added. The mana guns will shoot wherever I point the ship, so they stay with me.

You can sit in the seat and try it yourself if you like, but don't connect your mana. If you shoot off a cannon blast on the docks we will both be executed I imagine.'

She looks at me with a bright red face and teary eyes. Before she makes a move to sit down, she dives into my chest like a torpedo, nearly knocking me to the ground.

'Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to leave this place! I promise I will try to become the best gunner ever Captain!'

I place one hand on her upper back, and one on top of her head. While I hold her and stroke her hair, she nuzzled into my chest for a short period before detatching herself from me.

'That doesn't count as me flirting! I am just so happy, that's why I did that!'

I know full well that her actions were not a display of love or affection, but she just wanted some help dealing with her emotions in that moment.

This woman has been treated like a pariah the whole time she has been here, loved in squalid conditions, and suffered the outright racist attitude of a lot of residents. I am sure she is just happy to be rid of this place.

'If you have anyone you want to say goodbye to, make sure you tell me so we can go there before we leave.'

'Only Pops, and we will see him tomorrow.'

After composing herself once more, she sits in the gunner's seat, fiddling with the chair to make herself more comfortable.

'The left screen and stick control the rear harpoon, and the right stick and screen are for the mana cannon. The screen next to each will show a very basic image of what is in the weapon's sights. It's easy enough to operate with some practice, the big challenge will be the torpedos.'

She nods her head and gives me a wide smile. After climbing out of her seat, she follows me downstairs, where I show her the galley, cargo hold, and engine room, before finally arriving at her cabin.

'This cabin will be yours. You will probably need to share it with the navigator we will need to recruit in the future. Choose whichever bunk you like, and you will also have your own bathroom and shower.'

'This is an actual bed! Not a blanket on a wooden floor! And look at this bathroom. It has hot water! Captain, what kind of ship is this? It's more luxurious than any hotel in the city!'

She is absolutely shocked by the facilities available to her, but I really don't blame her at all, considering the conditions she was staying in before.

'This will be your own private space. Decorate the area next to your bunk however you like. Tomorrow we can get some things to make this room more comfortable. I am sure you will need a bedset and pillow and the like too.'

She turns to look at me again with nothing but gratitude on her face. 'Thank you Captain! I feel more at home here already than I ever did in that broken building!'
