The principal stood in the sky and coldly watched as the Guardians pulled out iron spikes that they then pierced through the hearts of the helpless Draugr.
The Draugr were very difficult to kill, but this was one way to do it effectively. The iron spikes had been blessed by the power of a god. This was the only way to kill the Draugr. Even their immortality could not save them from this.
Each Draugr that was pierced through the heart with an iron spike quickly shriveled. It looked as though all the blood was being drained from their bodies.
They dried up quickly, and when they looked like dried raisins, their bodies exploded into a puff of dust that flew away with the wind.
Tens of Draugr were killed in just a few seconds.
The principal had suspected that he would have trouble from the Draugr, and even though he had not been sure, he had still prepared himself to deal with them.
The only problem was that he had done so half-heartedly since he had not believed that even the Draugr were crazy enough to attack the academy.
If he had been sure about the attack, he would have used more of the academy's resources to prepare.
It had cost the academy a fortune to get the iron spikes from the capital, and right now, these spikes were the only things he had to fend off this attack. His spirit flames were powerful, but against a Draugr, fire could only put them down temporarily.
At the moment, the principal felt the earth shaking. He turned around and looked at the frozen lake.
"I hope she is dead," he thought.
These words were just his hopes, and a second later Hildr flew out of the frozen lake with so much power that ice shards covered the sky. She had felt the deaths of many Draugr while under the lake, and the fact that her side was losing did not sit well with her.
She had never lost anything in her life, and she was not willing to start today. When the principal saw her, he did not hesitate as he brought out an iron spike that he threw towards her. The spike moved faster than any bullet.
Puuuuu—the spike passed through her chest and sent blood spewing in all directions.
"Will it actually be this easy?" thought the principal.
The force from the spike blew Hildr backwards, but this was only temporary. She easily stopped herself and kicked the air as though it was firm ground.
An explosion filled the world from her movement.
The principal was shaken by her terrible power. Before he could process what was happening, Hildr was already upon him like a bat out of hell.
With her dainty fist, she punched towards the principal. The man could sense the power in this simple fist, and he knew that allowing it to reach him would mean death. His body was made from fire, but he still felt death coming for him. He did not understand why until the fist made contact with the hand he had brought up to defend himself. Hildr's fist did not go through him as it should have. Instead, his body was forced back to that of blood and flesh. The power of the fist shattered his arm, but this was not enough to stop it. The fist moved on and passed through his chest.
The principal was left stunned. The two figures stayed floating in the sky with Hildr looking directly into the principal's eyes. Her blue eyes were filled with a coldness that could only be called evil—and most of all, crazy.
The principal had faced countless foes over the years, but this was the first time he was so out of it...
"How?" he asked with what seemed to be his last breath.
Hildr did not give him the courtesy of an answer. In her eyes, the principal was already a dead man, but this did not mean that she should expose her secrets. After all, there were necromancers among the Otherkind.
The battlefield was silent. Even the Guardians who had been killing the Draugr that had collapsed on the ground stopped their actions and looked up in sorrow.
"Give me the Crown of the Endless, and I will leave immediately. If not, do not even hope that anything on this island will be spared from death." Hildr's voice filled the world. The students all trembled with fear.
"Why did I come to this school?" some asked themselves.
Lemuria Academy was among the best schools on the continent, but it was not the only option.
"Evacuate," the principal cried out. The academy seemed to react to his voice as alarms filled the air.
Hildr looked at the old man and sneered. She opened her mouth and bit into his neck. She moved so fast that the old man only saw afterimages.
The pain moved through his body with an intensity that made him regret ever having been born. This was the bite of a Draugr—a sinister creature filled with malice and evil. There was no way one would have a pleasant experience of being bitten by it.
As Hildr gulped down the blood, her blue eyes glowed, and she was able to see the old man's memories.
Like some kind of movie, she saw the man's memories from the time he was born to this very moment.
The principal had lived a very heroic life, and even Hildr was moved by his righteousness. Even though she saw nothing but a wasted life, she still respected the way he had held onto his beliefs, never compromising.
At this moment, the principal was suddenly filled with power. This was everything he had left.
Hildr had lost control for a moment, and that was all the old man needed. He had been in many battles, and he knew not to miss an opportunity to retaliate. He released a wave of power that blasted Hildr away.
His flames reignited. The old man did not hesitate. He raised his remaining hand and pointed towards Hildr.
He then released a wave of flames from his hand. These were the hottest flames so far.
They engulfed Hildr from head to toe, and even she could not stop herself from screaming out in pain.
Her screams even made the frozen lake tremble. At this moment, the students had already begun evacuating. They were running over the frozen lake to make their escape.
Since none of them was human, their speeds were impressive. Some even transformed into all manner of beasts, allowing them to fly away. Amelia was one of these fleeing students. She was carrying her sister in her arms, and right next to her were Adrian and Corina. They could hear Hildr's screams, but everyone knew that the principal was only doing this to buy them some time. They did not have the luxury of even turning around to witness the end of the principal.
