Hey everyone! Before Chapter 4 drops, I wanted to address something a few readers might be thinking—especially if you've read the first few chapters and feel like this is another Lily-obsessed Severus story.
I get it. Right now, it looks like he's thinking about Lily way too much. And yes—this will continue in future chapters, but there's a reason. A big one.
Without giving away too many spoilers, let me just say this: what you're seeing on the surface is exactly what Severus wants others to see. If anyone tries to read his mind with Legilimency, he wants them to believe he's just a man madly in love and changing himself for that love. The truth is far more complicated.
There's an Occlumency artifact (connected to his mother) protecting his mind, but even with that, he maintains surface thoughts focused on Lily to mislead potential mind readers. Why? Because love is a powerful excuse for sudden change—and no one would ever suspect that the real Severus is actually someone else entirely.
This is a story about strategy, manipulation, loyalty, and transformation. Lily will play a major role—but not as a romantic obsession. Think of her more like Severus's most trusted and loyal ally, similar to how Bellatrix was to Voldemort (but don't worry—Severus is not a psychopath like Voldemort. He's more of a deep thinker and mind-game player).
And even I, as the author, sometimes feel I can't fully express his true thoughts—because they're buried so deep, even I would need Legilimency to access them!
Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy discovering what lies beneath the surface.
