Chapter 72 - 72 - The Generous Swindler

Ashina and the other two elders stared at Shin. If all this was true, then he was truly gifted.

"Don't just stand there, take a seat!" Shin sat down first with Tsunade and said, "When I said I would lead the Land of Whirlpools to victory in this war, it wasn't just empty talk. For that, I've prepared three gifts."

"The first gift," he turned to Tsunade and nodded at her.

She immediately understood, and took out ten storage scrolls with massive internal space and opened one, in an instant, various supplies filled half the room.

"Vital Surge Pills, a new type of medicinal pill," Shin introduced while holding up a bottle. "You won't find them on the market right now. Even in Konoha, they're classified. These pills can not only satisfy hunger but also rapidly restore stamina and chakra. Their recovery speed is about three times that of a Military Rations Pill, and they have no side effects. We even specially adjusted the taste, you could live off them long term, and prolonged use will even gradually improve physical fitness."

"These two are Konoha White Balm and Konoha Black Balm. The white one is for external use, the black one is taken internally. White Balm not only stops bleeding and relieves pain, but also prevents infection and increases wound healing speed by at least 30%. For people with compatible constitutions, recovery speed can even increase by 50%. The Black Balm is three times more effective than the White Balm, and when used together, the effects are enhanced."

"I won't go over the other healing medications and the antidotes specifically made for Suna's poisons, the labels on the bottles explain everything."

Ashina and the two elders exchanged glances, their eyes full of excitement. They had assumed that the so-called strategic supplies would be just weapons or food. After all, these materials were said to be privately provided by Mito. Given the lack of cooperation from Konoha's higher-ups, getting this much was already the best they could hope for.

But these supplies, these were treasures that even the great ninja villages would dream of acquiring.

Their confidence instantly soared, and this was just the first gift, there were still two more!

The three of them looked at Shin with eager anticipation.

"But," he suddenly interrupted their excitement with a troubled tone, "These supplies were originally prepared by our lab for Konoha. I secretly diverted them here to help our allies, but now I need a little help from you in return."

Ashina promised. "If it's within our power, we'll definitely help."

"These supplies were scheduled to be handed over to the Logistics Department for sealing at the beginning of next month, after all, they're part of the strategic reserves. But now I've brought them here instead. If I can't deliver them next month, I'll be in big trouble. But the village's funds and ingredients for producing these medicines have all been used up, so I'm really in a bind. I hope you can help me come up with a solution."

Tsunade, off to the side, was speechless at how effortlessly Shin was spinning this tale. Konoha didn't even know about these things, he was clearly here to fleece them.

"Would this work for you?" Ashina quickly said. "As for the medicinal ingredients, we can't think of a good solution at the moment, the war is about to start, and gathering them will be very difficult. I'm afraid that part will have to be up to you. But we will immediately provide the funding to purchase the ingredients, so you can resume production without any difficulties."

"Excellent," Shin let out a sigh of relief, then handed over a pre-prepared scroll to the Uzumaki clan leader, it contained a detailed list of all the required ingredients and the prices of the pills.

Ashina took the scroll a little nervously and began reading it, while the other two elders leaned in. As they read, the three of them started to look… strange.

At first, they had been worried that Shin would ask for sky-high prices, but the reality was the complete opposite of what they expected. The amount of funding he requested was absurdly low.

For example, his price for a Vital Surge Pill was only 3.3 times that of a standard Military Rations Pill.

The Konoha White Balm was 2.6 times the price of regular external-use healing ointments.

The Konoha Black Balm was 3.2 times the price of internal-use healing medicines.

But if these things were sold on the open market, people would fight to buy them at ten times the price. Because they were that effective, and could literally save lives at critical moments.

"Did you make a mistake?" Ashina asked, confused.

"No."

"Aren't you asking too little?" Ashina clarified.

"I'm giving it to you at cost price. I'm Tsunade's fiancé, so we're relatives, and it's in times of hardship that true loyalty shows. Isn't this just how it should be?"

A rare look of emotion appeared on Ashina's usually composed face, and the two elders were so touched they nearly cried. They truly believed it was the cost price. Because the Land of Whirlpools also produced Military Rations Pills, they were very familiar with the costs involved.

Military Rations Pills weren't popular, they were backup rations for when supplies were low during war. They tasted awful and had side effects if consumed too much. So outside of wartime, even when on missions, ninjas would eat regular meals or dry rations if possible.

Military Rations Pills were a last resort, and because they sold so poorly, no one expected to make much profit from them. So, the cost price was basically the same as the selling price, maybe with a 10% margin at most.

Given that the Vital Surge Pills were vastly more effective, and obviously used rarer ingredients, a price 3.3 times that of Military Rations Pills definitely sounded like the base cost.

Seeing Ashina's reaction, Shin gave a satisfied nod to himself.

The Vital Surge Pill? It was really just a highly modified version of the Military Rations Pill, developed purely to fool Konoha's higher-ups. He had merely removed a few ingredients, added some that no one would ever think of, enhanced the medicinal effects, and removed the side effects.

The cost hadn't gone up, it had actually dropped! But calling it a "cost price" wasn't exactly a lie, after all, research and development should be factored in too. Even if he hadn't spent much time on it, his appearance fee was no joke.

All those years of being forced by Koharu to make medicine hadn't been entirely useless after all. To better showcase his value, he had studied pharmacology to such a deep level that it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say none before and none after could match him.

"You're absolutely right," Ashina said, visibly moved. "But you've done so much for us, we really must show our appreciation…"

"There's no need for that," Shin interrupted. "I already said we're family. Let's not be strangers."

"My mistake," Ashina quickly apologized and reflected on himself. But his desire to repay Shin only grew stronger.

What a good man!
