Chapter 65 - Chapter 65 – Mind Body Switch Technique

After brutal training, only about thirty people from your batch have survived. Clearly, more rookies who've only received basic instruction will be added tomorrow.

These thirty survivors will likely take the top thirty slots in the next round—though it's also possible that some are holding back on purpose to avoid attention...

Having experienced this method firsthand, so reminiscent of raising poisonous insects to weed out the weak, you can't help but marvel at how efficient Root's training process is.

Since it was your first day of training, you knew when to stop. After completing the basic ten consecutive challenges, you sat down to rest, avoiding unnecessary death in fights outside of missions like some greedy fools.

Because you only completed the minimum task requirement, you didn't receive any bonus rewards.

Fortunately, a few people approached you, trying to barter for your loot. After carefully inspecting what they offered, you dismantled the armor you had on and traded it with these clueless idiots for some chakra metal fragments and a decent shortbow.

After training, you were told you could move into the room for the third-place rank, so you packed your things and settled in.

Inside the room, though you were fully aware that Root would be monitoring you, you still took out the chakra metal fragments. Activating your Sharingan, and relying on your unparalleled control over fire, you smelted the fragments into three arrows. These arrows were far more powerful than typical throwing tools like kunai or senbon.

You also deliberately shaped your Sharingan's abilities to appear as if they were more fire-style oriented.

...

[Day 15]

This was your second time participating in Root training. The entire process was exactly the same as before—clearly, this method had been perfected within Root.

You naturally ended up in third place again. Unfortunately, the reward was just a bloodstained Fireball Jutsu scroll—barely worth mentioning.

You started by killing an overconfident rookie who challenged you without thinking, then went on to methodically shoot down every pair of opponents using your fire-infused arrows at close range.

The chakra-metal arrows were excellent for refining your fire-style control.

At the same time, you started to get the hang of archery.

After five rounds of combat, all three of your arrows had broken.

Fortunately, through bartering again—with bones, torn clothes, and even teeth—you managed to politely acquire more chakra metal scraps from others. After reforging them, you ended up with six new arrows.

You then decided to enter the self-selected opponent challenges.

Unfortunately, reforging the arrows had taken a good chunk of time, so you only managed to kill two extra opponents before training ended. Your final reward was a mostly useless Manipulated Shuriken Technique manual.

...

[Day 16]

Aside from the crazed Kumogakure ninja you met on the first day, none of the opponents since had been remotely interesting.

After racking up another ten straight wins, you resumed your usual bartering routine—trading wooden sticks, ragged clothes, and smelly shoes for anything useful.

With each reforging session, your chakra alloy arrow count steadily grew.

This time, your extra challenges went much more efficiently. Your combat skill had improved significantly, and your reward was the Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu—a ranged, multi-target fire technique. It was a solid choice, especially since you often had to fight two people at once.

Still, when it came to simplicity and ease of use, nothing beat your fire-enhanced arrows. You didn't even need to form hand seals—just draw the bow in your opponent's face and watch as their body bursts into disgusting, fire-lit chunks like a grotesque firework display.

...

[Day 17]

The training had grown dull.

The reward for placing third today was a barely-passable Uchiha-style Kenjutsu technique.

After another round of "friendly trades," your arrow count had climbed to fifteen—more than enough to handle ten opponents. You began to consider how you could incorporate techniques from Manipulated Shuriken Technique into your archery.

You killed over ten more challengers in the extra rounds. The reward this time? Another fire-style jutsu—Fire Dragon Jutsu.

Not bad. Root was just handing you Uchiha fire techniques like they cost nothing. It was like pulling off a scam with no effort.

...

[Day 18]

In the midst of yet another monotonous kill-trade-reforge cycle, you noticed something strange—several of the top thirty had vanished.

But they hadn't died in training the day before. In fact, you had seen one of them go back to his room to rest.

You deduced that once someone had trained long enough here, they would officially enter Root and be assigned missions based on their performance so far.

For example, Yamanaka Fū and Aburame Torune had consistently held the top two ranks. They would likely become Danzo's personal bodyguards. If they weren't eventually killed by Obito, they might even get promoted further—like Aburame Ryoma or even Orochimaru before his defection, who was essentially Root's second-in-command.

Those who consistently ranked in the top thirty would probably become elite Root operatives—mid-tier leaders equivalent to jonin. As for those hiding outside the top thirty just to stay alive, they'd be developed into niche-focused chunin. Like those sealing-type Root nin you wiped out during that simulation around the clan compound.

...

[Day 19]

More killing, trading, and reforging chakra-alloy arrows.

Root rewarded you with two more fire-style jutsu from the Uchiha clan's legacy.

Though you already had deep knowledge of fire-style chakra transformation, these jutsu—though not high-level—still held reference value. Your understanding of fire chakra transformation grew even deeper.

However, constant high-intensity usage had begun to wear down your bowstring, and you were at a loss for how to replace it.

...

[Day 20]

After blasting your ten designated training targets to bits with arrows again, Yamanaka Fū approached you.

As the second-ranked trainee, he was curious why someone as strong as you hadn't challenged him or Aburame Torune yet for a better ranking and better rewards.

He also mentioned he was about to complete training and officially join Root.

What he didn't know was that you had deliberately avoided reaching the top two because you didn't want to end up serving directly under Danzo. You preferred to lead your own squad in field missions—that way, you could avoid being subjected to Kotoamatsukami and would have more time and freedom to grow stronger.

You told Yamanaka Fū: if he could beat you, you'd tell him your real reason. But if he lost, he'd have to hand over the Mind Body Switch Technique.

He nodded and said he'd get the answer himself during the fight. As for the jutsu, if you had the strength, you'd take it from him.

That kind of attitude—pure Root.

You put down your bow and promised not to use fire-style jutsu. You'd defeat him using only kenjutsu and your Sharingan.

Fū blindfolded himself with a strip of black cloth to avoid genjutsu and tapped into the Yamanaka clan's spiritual sensory technique. He then launched the Mind Body Switch Technique to take control of you.

Exactly what you were hoping for.

Having developed your Uchiha bloodline, your spiritual power was leagues beyond what the Yamanaka clan could achieve with simple meditation. You struck his invading spirit with Soul Slash just once—and Fū immediately staggered, dazed and unable to resist.

As the jutsu withdrew and his mind returned to his body, you used that instant to reverse invade his consciousness. With pure spiritual energy, you constructed a genjutsu-like scene to guide him into recalling the early days of learning ninjutsu—extracting the full Mind Body Switch Technique from his memory...
