Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 – Contracting the Boss Black Cat

Uchiha Kirin had already targeted the ANBU agent codenamed "Yama" several times. While he'd gained maximum kill rewards early on, repeated hunts had caused diminishing returns. If he kept it up, the number of attribute points he earned would only continue to drop.

Simulations took time to run in the real world, and with the yield shrinking, it just wasn't worth the effort anymore. Time to change targets.

"I remember this guy used Water Style... I even copied a C-rank Water Style jutsu from him with my Sharingan last time. His codename was... Kawa, right? Yeah, you'll do just fine."

...

[Simulation Start]

[Target Locked: Root Operative – Kawa]

[04:00 AM]

You unroll the summoning scroll, placing it across your lap. Aside from the name "Boss Black Cat," the scroll is blank. Still, you're not worried—your Sharingan clearly detects the chakra flowing through the intricate patterns etched on the surface. This is no fake.

Following memory, you bite your thumb and smear the blood across the scroll.

A sudden puff of smoke fills the room, followed by a sharp, screeching yowl.

As the smoke clears, a wild-eyed black cat appears at the scroll's center—Boss Black, the same one you met during your last simulation. But this version of him clearly doesn't recognize you.

Sensing the tense atmosphere thickening, you take the initiative and explain how you met him during the simulation and earned his approval.

But Boss Black Cat doesn't listen to a word. He leaps at your face, claws flashing, demanding you cancel the summoning contract immediately.

He speaks—yes, actually talks—and threatens you, saying that if you weren't a brat from the Uchiha clan, he would've shredded you on the spot.

Pain surges through your arm as he swipes at you with surprising force. If not for the nearly 500 Strength points you'd accumulated, you wouldn't stand a chance against him. Even with that power, overpowering him isn't easy.

Boss Black, too, is stunned by your strength. How could a kid who looks no older than five or six wield such monstrous power? Could this be the legendary "super strength"?

Though furious at being forcefully contracted, your Sharingan and raw strength pique his curiosity.

Still, as a proud feline, there's no way he'll admit you're now his summoner. Instead, he continues to spar with you in refusal.

Luckily, the Sharingan—though not as adept at far-sight or x-ray vision as the Byakugan—excels at reading emotions and predicting movement. You activate it mid-fight, catching every shift in Boss Black's mood.

In a panic, you grab a bar of soap and chuck it at him to buy time. Then, without a shred of honor, you use the Body Replacement Technique to swap positions and retreat slowly from the bathroom. You eye the drawer near your bed and pull out a box of dried sardines.

A peace offering.

...

[05:00 AM]

Old Lady Yukina knocks on your door, having heard the ruckus. You quickly signal to Boss Black to stay quiet with a finger to your lips.

Fortunately, the sardines calm him down—for now. You continue sharing the details of your past simulation, scratching his fur a little while you talk. It's surprisingly soft.

...

[06:00 AM]

With the aid of your dried sardine diplomacy, Boss Black reluctantly accepts that the contract is real. From his perspective, your qualifications aren't terrible.

However, he flat-out refuses to believe the rumors about Uchiha Itachi betraying the clan.

After all, Itachi was raised under the watchful eyes of the ninja cat. He helped stray cats while still a genin, even bringing his little brother Sasuke along on cat-catching missions. A kid that diligent and kind couldn't possibly be a traitor.

Seeing that you won't convince him, you switch topics and ask whether the wild cats in the village have gathered any intel on Root.

Boss Black is shocked that you know the strays serve as the tribe's informants. But given that you managed to contract him without a trace, he lets it go.

According to him, the wild cats haven't reported anything unusual.

So, you bring up the matter of Uchiha Shisui's death.

But in the ninja cats' records, Shisui is only listed as "missing"—not dead.

That discrepancy catches your attention.

You ask Boss Black to find out more from the cat that delivered the report back then. He agrees and tells you to wait an hour.

Before he leaves, he helps you learn the Summoning Technique.

...

[07:00 AM]

After breakfast, you head out to "train," but really, you slip into a secluded training ground. There, you finish modifying a few rats for self-destruction and load rocks into a basket for Strength and Endurance training.

...

[08:00 AM]

You bite your finger and slam your hands into the ground. A summoning seal spreads across the dirt, and with a burst of smoke, Boss Black Cat reappears—looking tense.

He tells you that every stray cat involved insists Uchiha Shisui just vanished. Not a single one can remember how or where it happened. It's as if someone forcibly implanted a memory that doesn't actually exist.

Yet even after a check-up from Granny Cat, no signs of genjutsu were found.

You suspect Itachi or Obito might be behind it. Boss Black Cat agrees—it reeks of Sharingan trickery.

He tells you to wait. He's going to bring the stray who delivered the original report so you can inspect them directly.

You resume your weighted training.

...

[09:00 AM]

During a break, Boss Black Cat returns with a big, yellow, and extremely fat stray in tow. He motions for you to use your Sharingan's Genjutsu on the cat.

You cast the illusion, slipping easily into the orange tabby's mind. Unlike Boss Black Cat, this one has no chakra and can't speak—just an absurdly overweight stray. Entering its mind is effortless.

This is your first time entering another creature's mental world. The tabby's spiritual realm is fragile, like it could shatter with a single tap. Now you understand why the rats you mentally controlled ended up so dumb—even releasing them from genjutsu didn't help. Creatures without true sentience have brittle minds, easily broken.

You tiptoe through the orange tabby's memories, carefully trying to sift through the fog.

"The alley flower thinks I'm too fat... she rejected me. So sad…"

"Granny gave me one more sardine today. So happy…"

"I made Bochi from the end of the street mad. He chased me from noon until dusk… good thing I can climb trees…"
