Chapter 32 - selection II

Blade clashed, as instead of words--blood flew.

Mathis, seeing as he could not use any skills--threw his sword away and punched the other him, sending the man to the floor.

Mathis then followed up with an axe kick to try and finish him off, but he blocks by putting his arms in the way before grabbing his ankle and making him fall down too.

Mathis attempted to pull out a dagger but was kicked away by something else, as he looked up--he saw William, the same William he had killed.

"I killed him.. i know i killed him.." Mathis thought to himself, his mind racing.

Mathis gets back up and steps back to create some distance between him and the two opponents.

[Support: Gem of ---- has lent you 'skill: all consuming abyssal blade' and is now watching you.]

"Wow.. I cant thank her enough, once I get out of here I'll have to thank her for saving me." Mathis thought to himself as he uses the skill.

[Mathis has used 'skill: all consuming abyssal blade.']

Mathis raises the new sword, but before he could swing it--the copy of Mathis and William attacks, but Mathis blocked both their attacks.

Mathis then sliced William's head off and slashed at the other him, but the other him managed to dodge and kick him down.

Mathis throws the all consuming abyssal blade past the other him, when the other him dodged--Mathis pulled out the same black sword he had thrown away, and stabbed it through the other Mathis.

Blood splattered over his face as he then pushed the body of the other him off of him and stood up.

[Trial 3: test of intelligence will start in 5 minutes.]

"They must want to see how well I can think while under stress and pressure, 5 minutes is just barely enough and will make me 'dread' the upcoming test--meaning that I should stay calm." Mathis muttered to himself, as he started taking slow deep breaths to calm himself down.

Mathis just sat there in a pool of blood and calmed his breath.

After the 5 minutes the surroundings distorted again, revealing a disgusting sight before him.

He was now in an old fashioned house, blood was splattered all over--there were 3 bodies infront of him and 4 men standing against a wall.

[Explanation: investigate, question, and figure out which of the four men is the murderer, with a time limit of 1 day--if you get the wrong answer, you will die.]

[Critical information: everything in this house has been left in their original states and have not been touched.]

Mathis although being disgusted by what was lying before him, walked forward and checked the bodies.

One of them was a female with 3 stab wounds to the chest and her head bashed in, the second one was a man with one stab wound on the side and a bruised temple, and the third one was a kid around 12 years with what seemed to be a fracture on the skull and two stab wounds on the chest and neck.

"The person who has done that, must truly be sick in the head." Mathis muttered to himself, his face being one of slight sadness and disgust.

He then searches the house for potential murder weapons, but found nothing.

"It looks like either two weapons or two people did this." Mathis thought to himself before walking around the house, he was looking for any signs of a break in.

"Nothing at all.. ill move on to questioning and then ill make an overall of everything and match it up to see who's lying and who's telling truth." Mathis muttered to himself, before walking towards the four men.

"Hey system thingy.. when did the crime happen? Exact time." Mathis asked in a low, almost quiet voice.

[2:17AM, yesterday.]

Mathis takes the first man to a secluded room and asks him a question.

"What's your name." Mathis asked calmly.

"Jake." The man answered, he was a bit fidgety.

"Where were you and what were you doing at 2:17AM yesterday." Mathis asked, his tone being authoritive and intimidating.

"I was at my house sleeping." Jake said, his tone being confident in his own answer.

"Do you have any alibi to prove what you are saying?" Mathis said as he walked around Jake, attempting to make the man feel pressured.

"I do actually, my wife was with me and can prove it." Jake said, his confident in being innocent.

"Call her." Mathis said, his words being short on purpose to try to pressure him.

Jake nodded and calls his wife, putting the phone on loud speaker so Mathis could hear everything.

"Hey honey, can you confirm i was in bed all night long yesterday?" Jake asked his wife, his tone soft yet confident.

"Yes you were, why do you ask?" A female voice was heard through the phone.

"Nothing, thanks honey." Jake said before hanging up.

"I guess you really didn't do it.. but there's still more factors to consider, so for now go take a seat." Mathis said, his tone calculating as he pointed to a chair and called over the next suspect.

"What about you? What were you doing at 2:17AM?" Mathis asked, his tone even more authorative and intimidating than before.

"I was binging Netflix yesterday, and I have my screentime as proof!" The man exclaimed confidently, as he pulled out his phone--as he said, his screentime app showed that he was watching Netflix at 2:17AM.

"And what is your name?" Mathis asked, his voice not faltering.

"I am Jordan." The man said, he was growing a little more nervous.

"Why are you're hands shaking?" Mathis asked in a mock concerned expression.

"Its nothing, don't worry.." Jordan answered, he then walked away and took a seat.

"Next."

Mathis called out as another man walked forward, this one much more confident than the others--he held no fear.

"My name is Miven, nice to meet ya--at 2:17AM i was sleeping, I have my neighbours as alibi that i had not left my house at all!" The man said without hesitation, staring into Mathis's eyes.

"I see.. go take your seat now." Mathis said, pointing to a chair.

The last man walked towards Mathis, as the other one walked to his seat.

"My name is Anderson, at 2:17AM I was at a bar--i have the bartender and other customers as alibi to prove my innocence." The man said before walking to his seat, not even looking at Mathis.

"They're all acting weird, that makes it harder." Mathis muttered to himself, before then taking a look at the bodies and around the bodies again.

"Is that a blood trail? It looks like a body was dragged through here--it doesn't lead to anything though, so there must have been a fourth victim." Mathis thought to himself as he looked at a faint trail of blood under him.

Mathis turned around and started speaking.

"Jake, I would like to have a talk with your 'wife'."

"Jordan, why were your hands shaking so much?"

"Miven, why would you're neighbours be watching you at 2:17AM."

"Anderson, why did you refuse to look me in the eyes while speaking and your breath doesn't smell like alcohol--the smell of alcohol does not fade so easily, espacially if you were at a bar."

[Mathis has bought 'breathalyzer' from the system shop.]

Mathis then walked forward and made Anderson blow into the machine--proving that he had indeed not drank alcohol.
