Chapter 23 - Chapter 71-75

Chapter 71: The Growing Shadows

The darkness was spreading, as if invisible hands were reaching out to strangle every place they touched. As we passed through the affected areas, the trees and plants surrounding us were slowly fading under the influence of the dark shadows. There was no doubt that these forces were growing stronger.

Ariel was closely monitoring the map, while I felt something strange in my chest, as though I could hear the echo of the darkness deep inside me. It wasn't just fear; it was a deep sensation as if these shadows knew more about me than they should.

"We need to leave this area quickly," Ariel said, breaking the silence in the room. "If the darkness keeps spreading like this, we'll find ourselves trapped in its heart."

"But we need to understand its source," Lilia added, examining the ancient texts in front of her. "These shadows aren't just random forces. They're tied to something deeper."

"As if there's an ancient creature behind this," I said, feeling the subtle vibrations in the air. "But who is it?"

At that moment, one of the wizards monitoring the screen in the operations room yelled, "Eiad! There are unnatural changes in the magic. It's... moving!"

The dark energy that had spread across the region seemed to adapt to every change around it. The darkness was intensifying as though it had its own consciousness, slowly moving toward new places. It passed through mountains, rivers, and plains.

"Time is not on our side," Ariel said, looking far out of the window of the headquarters, where the darkness was creeping toward the camps. "If this continues, we will lose control of the entire world."

Lilia turned the last page of one of the ancient texts and said, "I found it. There's a solution, but it's risky. We need to go into the depths of the mountains, where the origins of these shadows are hidden."

"But we don't know what we'll face there," I said, thinking of the dangers we might encounter along the way.

Ariel sighed and responded to Lilia, "The risks are here too. The darkness doesn't wait."

Chapter 72: The Road to the Mountains

There was no choice. We had to confront this darkness at its origin before it consumed the entire world. We began our journey toward the forbidden mountains, the very place everyone warned us to stay away from.

The journey was long and difficult. We passed through dense forests, crossed flowing streams, and the land beneath our feet changed little by little. Over time, we began to notice that the environment around us was becoming more misty, and the closer we got to the mountains, the darker the shadows became.

"This place feels like it's swallowing everything," Lilia said, looking around with concern. "We've reached the place where the darkness hides."

Ariel was holding an ancient book in her hands, carefully flipping through its pages, searching for anything that could help us. "The path to the depths must be hidden from sight. There's some kind of magical protection around this area."

As we moved forward along the narrow path, the air grew colder, as if the shadows were creeping into our bodies. I felt something strange in my heart. It was as though something was watching us from within the shadows, something that none of our ordinary senses could detect, but was definitely there.

And then, the ground beneath our feet suddenly shook, causing us to jump and stand alert.

"It's here," Lilia whispered.

Rocks began falling from the mountains around us, and the ground opened up into a deep chasm, as though it was trying to swallow us. The sounds coming from the depths of the mountains were like the voices of ancient creatures, eerie sounds filled with malice and anger.

"We must be ready," Ariel said in a serious voice. "This is the moment we will discover what lies beyond the shadows."

Chapter 73: The Face of Shadows

We entered the darkness, as if we were inside the heart of the mountain itself. The earth shifted beneath us, and the sounds coming from within made my heart race. It was as if the creature living in these mountains was breathing.

"Get ready," Ariel said, lighting a small magical flame with her hand, illuminating the area slightly.

At that moment, we began to see shadows moving around us. They moved quickly, as if they were wrapping around us, trying to impose themselves on us.

"Are these...?" Lilia asked, pointing to the shadows moving in the corners.

"Yes, these are the shadow guards," Ariel replied, standing ready. "We can't let them get close."

The shadows began to attack, but we managed to repel them using the magic and skills we had acquired throughout our journey. With every strike, the shadows retreated, but we didn't have time to catch our breath.

Suddenly, a massive creature appeared in front of us, surrounded by dark shadows rising from it, its eyes glowing with a deep red hue.

"Finally, you've arrived," said the voice coming from the shadows, a voice that was inhuman. "I've been waiting for you."

"Who are you?" Ariel asked, her voice steady.

"I am the ancient ruler of the shadows," the creature said, taking a step toward us. "You have come to tamper with what you cannot bear."

Chapter 74: The Ancient Ruler

The ancient ruler stood before us, its body covered in a thick layer of dark shadows that seemed to pulse as though alive. Its red eyes gleamed in the darkness, and its words pierced the silence that had descended upon us. When it spoke, its voice sounded like thunder from deep within the earth.

"I have summoned you because you represent the last hope of this land, but I cannot allow you to threaten my domain," it said in a strange voice that was impossible to describe.

Ariel stepped forward cautiously, her magic forming a shield of flames around us. "Did you create this darkness? Are you the one trying to destroy this world?"

The ancient ruler chuckled softly before saying, "I did not create the darkness; I am merely its guardian. But you… you are the ones who unleashed this chaos."

"How can we be the cause of this?" Lilia asked, her voice filled with concern. "We're just looking for a solution."

"You don't understand," the creature said, extending its hand, causing the darkness to move rapidly around the area. "It all began when you tried to steal what was not yours. You awakened forces you cannot control."

"We haven't done anything like that!" I said firmly, raising my hand to combat the darkness closing in around us. "We're here only to stop this devastation."

"Do you think you can stop it?" it said, as the shadows began to gather around it. "You are mere mortals. You cannot defeat the ancient darkness like this."

Ariel advanced further, directing her magic toward the ruler. "We're not here as enemies. We are here to save this world. And if you think you can stop us, you are mistaken."

But the ancient ruler laughed again, this time bitterly and full of anger. "You are a great sorceress, but even the greatest of sorcerers cannot stand against the shadows that have spread into every corner of this world. This darkness is the foundation of this existence. You are destroying an ancient order."

Its words scattered in the air like flying snowflakes, and they made me wonder if we really had a chance to defeat it. The darkness coiled around us, growing stronger with time.

"If you are the ancient ruler of the shadows, how can we stop you?" Lilia asked, trying to collect her thoughts.

"You want to stop me?" it replied coldly. "You can only stop me if you face your own inner darkness. You won't be able to do that because you haven't yet realized that this darkness is not just a random force; it represents everything dark in the hearts of humans. You fear losing control of your world, and you fear the truth that everyone ignores."

"We are not here to fear," I said firmly. "If the darkness lives in our hearts, there is no escape from confronting it."

At that moment, I felt something strange inside me, as though the darkness around us mirrored the fears I had deep within me. There were shadows of fear, weakness, and anger... emotions I had buried for years, but now they were returning to haunt me.

"How do we confront this darkness?" Lilia whispered, looking at me with confusion.

Ariel, who had been watching us closely, said, "The darkness we're dealing with here is a reflection of what we fear. To face it, we must face our fears, our weakest moments."

The picture became clearer. Ariel's words were the key to understanding what we needed to do. The darkness wasn't just magical forces, it represented every point of weakness or fear within ourselves. We didn't need to fight the darkness; we needed to acknowledge what we feared.

Then, suddenly, we heard a voice from behind the shadows. It was deep, filled with power.

"It lies within you, those of you who thought the darkness was the only enemy. It is your shadows that can defeat you, not the darkness itself."

At that moment, the shadows began to retreat slowly, as if they were starting to pull away from us. At the same time, our hearts began to change. Each of us was confronting our inner fears, and this was the key to changing the course of the battle.

Chapter 75: Light in the Heart of Darkness

After facing the true shadows within our hearts, we began to see the truth with complete clarity. We were able to distinguish between the facts and the illusions that the darkness had planted in our minds. We were now ready to confront the Old Lord.

"Now, we know how to face you," I said, raising my hands and feeling the magical energy gathering within me. "The darkness doesn't just lurk outside, but deep within us. And we are here now to face that darkness."

Ariel, who was beside me, also raised her hands, illuminating the sky with magical light. Lilia, too, began preparing her ritual, and the sky became radiant.

The Old Lord began to slowly retreat, as if facing a new force he hadn't expected. The shadows surrounding him were gradually melting away.

"You cannot stop me," he said, his voice weaker this time.

"We are no longer afraid of you," I replied, focusing all our energy into the attack.

In an instant, magical light exploded in all directions, fading the shadows and vanishing the ancient ruler before us.

Our world had now changed, and we had not only won the battle, but the war against the darkness that threatened the world.
