Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: The Hunt Begins

The pre-dawn chill bit through the camp, but Ashvath's eyes burned with restless fire. Sleep was a luxury long forgotten. Every shadow, every whisper seemed charged with betrayal.

---

Silent Footsteps

Ashvath moved silently through the labyrinth of tents, Sita at his side. Their breaths mingled in the cold air, a shared rhythm of urgency and resolve.

"We can't let them strike again," Ashvath murmured, scanning faces hidden in the half-light.

Sita's grip tightened on her dagger. "We find the traitor before they find us."

---

A Web of Lies

They reached the command tent where Ashoka and his closest advisors were gathered. The tension was palpable, like a taut bowstring ready to snap.

Ashoka's gaze met Ashvath's. "I trust you to lead this investigation. But be discreet. The enemy is closer than we think."

Ashvath nodded. "We won't fail."

A Secret Meeting

Later that night, under the cover of darkness, Ashvath and Sita met with a select group of trusted warriors.

"Listen carefully," Ashvath said. "We suspect the traitor moves within our supply lines. Every messenger, every wagon, every guard is a potential enemy."

Sita added, "Watch your backs. Trust no one who isn't with us."

The group dispersed, stepping silently into the shadows, eyes sharp, hearts steady.

Danger Lurks

As Ashvath returned to his tent, a flicker of movement caught his eye. A figure slipped between tents—too quick to be friendly.

He followed, breath shallow, senses heightened.

Suddenly, a blade flashed—metal kissed by moonlight—but Ashvath was faster. With a swift parry, he disarmed the attacker, forcing them into the light.

A young soldier, trembling and wide-eyed, collapsed to his knees.

"Why?" Ashvath demanded.

The soldier's voice broke. "I was promised safety for my family... please, I had no choice."
