Chapter 19 - CHAPTER 19: AWAKE

Zhao Jun reached out and lifted Tang Mei in a bridal-carry to the vehicle that he had arrived in.

He called Hsu Jin over and asked him to get in the car, then instructed the driver to get them to the nearest hospital as soon as possible.

Then a few minutes later, after thinking about something for a while, he turned to Hsu Jin.

"Do you have any deep cuts that require you to be hospitalized?"

Hsu Jin thought it and shook his head, "no. They are mostly flesh cuts that just need to be disinfected. At most stitching will do and Gu Tong can handle it."

Zhao Jun nodded and asked the driver to change directions and head back to the place he was currently staying.

"Give Gu Tong a call and ask him to get to the villa before I do."

"Yes, Sir."

Then silence permeated the car.

Nobody spoke until twenty minutes later when the car arrived at the villa; Young Master Zhao, because he didn't usually talk much. Hsu Jin because he was still bleeding and needed to stay still so his wound would not be pulled and the driver he did not dare speak if his Boss and his right hand man were not speaking.

When Tang Lin woke up again, she found herself in an unfamiliar room with unfamiliar furniture.

Immediately, she sat up and started trying to remember what had happened and how she got there.

When she flipped the bedside switch, the room was instantly flooded with light.

She looked around the dimly lit room, taking in the grey and brown sparse furnishings.

"What a dreary-looking room!"

Tang Lin wanted to call out for someone but decided against it.

What if she had been kidnapped, especially with Tang Mei's personality, and she ended up alerting the perpetrator that she had awoken?

(Aunty Tang Lin, which kidnapper would put you in such a luxury room, eh?)

Thankfully, she found her phone on the bedside drawer and picked it up.

First, she looked at the time, then looked through it for any missed calls, or text messages.

Flipping the blanket off her body, she got off the bed and tiptoed towards the door.

She was already halfway there when she heard movement close to the door and ran back to the bed.

Unsure of what to expect from whoever it was that was about to enter the room, she grabbed the bedside lamp and held it up with both hands.

She looked every inch ready to strike whoever walked through that door with bad intentions.

Tang Lin's eyes were glued to the door, as she waited nearly impatiently.

The knob turned, the door opened and in came a person that left her a little speechless.

"What are you doing?"

"How come it's you?"

Zhao Jun and Tang Lin spoke at the same time, one amused by her antics, the other confused and annoyed.

"You suspect that you're in danger and your first weapon of choice is a bedside lamp?"

Zhao Jun chuckled and stepped into the room?

"Why didn't I know that the famous Eagle Eye had such a side to her?"

Tang Lin was stumped for a few seconds before she could muster a retort in response.

Her annoyance was overflowing at this point.

"Look around this room and tell me what else is there to use for self-defense!"

Then remembering that she was currently at his place for some unknown reasons, she continued,

"Couldn't you have knocked and announced your name before coming in? Why and how am I at your place?"

Zhao Jun's smile stayed perfectly in place as he waited for her to finish.

He leaned back on the sofa and observed her for a while more.

"I didn't know you had woken up already. This is the third time I'm coming to check on you, so I thought you'd be asleep just like the first two times. Came to see if you were up for dinner."

Tang Lin felt speechless.

"How long have I been asleep?"

Zhao Jun tilted his head, "You've been sleeping all day, it's currently 9pm."

"What? It was just 10am when I got into Hsu Jin's car!" Tang Lin was effectively alarmed now.

"Wait, I remember that Hsu Jin and I were ambushed earlier and then the police came. And then…" her voice was reduced to a whisper at this point.

Zhao Jun was still smiling, just looking at her with his brows raised as if encouraging her to keep speaking.

"I…" Tang Lin wasn't sure of how to proceed. She tried to come up with different ways to ask a question but couldn't decide that any one was good enough.

She couldn't exactly ask him if he had seen and interacted with her alter, right?

"Go on, I can answer any questions you have honestly," Zhao Jun said with a smile.

Answer honestly, my ass!

Tang Lin thought as she glared daggers at him.

"Nevermind."

Zhao Jun was thoroughly amused, "are you sure you don't want to know what happened before I had to bring you here?"

Tang Lin found his raised brows absolutely annoying. She felt unsettled about his question but pretended to be calm.

"What's there to be curious about? I was extremely exhausted after such a close shave with death and fainted as soon as I knew we were finally safe, isn't that what happened?"

Then she grabbed her phone and turned to walk towards the door.

She thought that no matter what he said, she would deny it to the grave.

After all, he didn't have any evidence to back his claims.

He shouldn't have any evidence, right?

Then as if he was a ghost from hell sent to her to collect a debt from a past life, his voice sounded from behind her.

"I think I have a recording that says otherwise."

Tang Lin stumbled forward, so hard that she would have lost quite a number of teeth if she did not manage to break the fall in time.
