Chapter 16 - Entrance Exam Day 2

Vidra slowly released his palm. Leaving a black print on the stone pillar. He turned back to walk to his place, but the sudden dizziness made him stagger.

"Are you alright?"

The old examiner looked at him. Not sure how to address the monstrous boy in front of him. Vidra was an abomination who couldn't be measured by human standards. The scribes were silent.

They weren't even sure that they were allowed to write down something like this. There was a good chance that the Eberhart Kingdom wanted to keep information about Vidra a secret. However, there were too many spectators.

Theoretically, everyone who spectated the entrance exam was a trustworthy individual. Yet, no one could say with a hundred percent certainty if something like that was possible. For now, the best they could do was to continue with the exam.

Vidra's score was a surprise, but nothing could be done to keep it a secret at this point. The chance of something like this happening each year was real. It was the same for every other elite academy around the world.

The rest of the exam takers got their mana measured by the stone pillar once the commotion died down. There were a few talented kids, and a few others who scratched the level of genius, but nothing came close to Luna's score, not to mention Vidra.

"The first day of the entrance exam is over! Follow the wooden sign leading to your dormitory, and pick whichever room you like. All of them are the same, aside from the location."

The crowd slowly dispersed. The adults and the scribes left to spread the news about everything that happened on the first day of the exam.

The examinees followed the signs leading towards the dormitories. The girls separated from the boys as the road ended in a fork. Vidra walked a little further away from the group, seemingly on purpose.

In reality, the other kids instinctively decided to keep their distance from him and Uros. They thought that Uros would be mad after receiving a mediocre score. Thus, Vidra and Uros ended up walking together behind the group. They entered the dormitory and tried to find their room, but to no avail.

Uros and Vidra were too late and ended up as the last ones to pick their rooms. The one room available at the highest floor of the dormitory was free. This room was the one furthest away from the entrance.

They looked at each other, knowing that they were most likely going to be roommates for the rest of their academic lives. Uros took a glance at Vidra before stepping into the room and taking one of the beds.

Vidra looked at him with an amused smile on his face, seeing that Uros wasn't perturbed by his mediocre score in the slightest. There was more to him than meets the eye. Both of them decided to sleep without exchanging a single greeting.

Morning arrived faster than it was supposed to. The examinees who didn't get into the top fifty were nervous. The girls were angry as they didn't have the time to properly get ready for the second day of the exam.

Slowly but surely, everyone gathered at the training ground of the academy. They stood in front of multiple stone platforms meant for sparring. It was obvious what would happen in the second part of the entrance exam.

The old man in front of them waited for everyone to arrive before beginning his speech.

"I welcome everyone on the second day of the entrance exam. Today, as most of you probably guessed. We will let the examinees fight each other. Everyone will have to fight at least twice."

"You might wonder how we can decide the top fifty based on mere two fights? However, there is no reason to worry about this. The headmaster of the academy will be responsible for evaluating your fights. Just fight to the best of your ability, and I guarantee that your evaluation will be precise."

"Does anyone have a question before we start?"

Vidra raised his hand. He sat on a rock not far from the group. Enjoying the sunlight while the others formed a strict unit. Afraid to offend the old man in front of them.

"First of all, I would appreciate it if you took this entrance exam seriously. You might not care since your pass is practically guaranteed, but there are others here who give their all. I believe there is no need to taunt others without a reason."

Vidra stood up and faced the old man.

"I want to ask what happens if no one wants to fight me."

Vidra asked, ignoring the examiner.

"That won't happen. You will have to fight with the top scorers of the second exam."

Vidra nodded as a reply before deciding to join the group, waiting for someone to pick him as an opponent. The first pairs slowly formed, with the weaker students quickly picking their opponents.

They took their place opposite each other on the stone platform and started their fights at the count of three. A fight between kids of their age looked nothing like a proper fight between mages who could properly utilize mana.

It was mostly a normal fight with weak signs of mana usage. They used it to reinforce their punches and kicks.

The outsiders, including the scribes slowly flowed into the training ground as the fights started.

Vidra waited for someone to challenge him at least once when he spotted Uros who stood not far away.

Uros stood there, seemingly without challengers. He turned his head to look at the approaching Vidra.

"I'm not going to fight with you."

"I didn't even ask yet."

Vidra walked back to where he had been standing and decided to observe the fights unfolding in front of him. Lune fought against a rather good opponent. The kid seemed eager to win the fight, despite having an overwhelming disadvantage.

In the end, however, he gave up after not being able to land a single punch. Lune turned her head toward Vidra as her previous opponent walked away, likely to find an easier target.

Vidra opened one eye while lounging on the giant rock. A smug expression on his face as he watched the girl approach.

"Care for a dance?"
