Chapter 59 - Psychological Trauma

"Lucky..."

Walking on this vibrant grassland, Chansey felt an unbelievable sensation welling up in its heart.

As it slowly walked forward, looking down at the little flowers blooming beside it, everything reflected in its eyes was so full of vitality and hope.

Ralts, Bulbasaur and the others followed behind Chansey, now also involuntarily attracted by this scenery.

"Bulba..."

As a Grass-type Pokémon, Bulbasaur naturally loved staying in places with lush vegetation and rich Grass-type energy.

Every blade of grass, every flower, every tree, every seedling along the way attracted its attention.

That lush grassland looked so captivating...

Carver observed each Pokémon's mood.

Sure enough, just as he had expected, after seeing the environment here, these Pokémon's moods and joy levels had risen somewhat.

But not by much, which meant their hearts were still in a state of vigilance.

Perhaps this was what Officer Jenny called "psychological trauma"?

Passing through the farmland and berry orchard, they reached the pasture area planted with grass and the breeding zone ahead.

Carver looked toward the shed ahead that could shelter Pokémon from wind and rain, then turned back and said:

"We're here. This is the place I've prepared for you to live. No one will come to disturb you here. The Clefairy and I will bring you food every day. If you're willing in the future, you can also come to the breeding house to live with everyone."

Though called a shed, it was actually a wooden house similar to a warehouse, specifically designed for animal husbandry and raising Pokémon like Miltank.

They would be active in the grass-covered pasture during the day, then return to the house to sleep at night.

The Pokémon led by Chansey looked toward that small house.

Carver paused, then continued: "I know you experienced very bad things before coming here. I'm sorry I couldn't rescue you sooner, but don't be afraid. From now on, as long as you're in this breeding house, absolutely no one will dare harm you."

Sincerity was always the ultimate technique.

Upon hearing these words, all the Pokémon in front of him showed stunned expressions.

Chansey still remembered that when they were rescued from the sewers, it heard several humans say that thanks to a breeding house owner, they were able to capture those bad people.

Breeding house... owner...

It remembered! It remembered everything!

The person who indirectly saved them was the human in front of it!

In an instant, Chansey's heart filled with gratitude toward Carver.

Maybe... maybe this human could be trusted?

He probably wouldn't lock them up and whip them with whips like those bad people before, right?

"Lucky..."

Chansey murmured.

Carver chuckled softly: "Next, let Clefairy show you around this place! Of course, if you want me to show you around, you can tell me, but I think you're probably not used to getting along with humans right now."

"Clefairy~!"

The Clefairy acting as Carver's assistant stepped forward voluntarily.

"In that case, I'll head back to the breeding house first. If you need help with anything, feel free to come find me," Carver said.

He had already observed these Pokémon's condition. They weren't injured—they had probably been healed when they were in Rustboro City.

The breeding house was a completely unfamiliar place to them now. Currently, the most important thing was to let Chansey and the others familiarize themselves with the environment.

Under the blank gazes of several Pokémon, Carver said goodbye to them and turned back to the breeding house.

It was impossible to say he wasn't tempted by such rare Pokémon.

Chansey was said to bring luck to those who could catch it.

It could lay several eggs a day, which many Pokémon loved to eat. The delicious eggs were so tasty that even people without appetite would eat them in one bite.

Many people wanted to catch it for its nutritious eggs. After experiencing a period of rampant hunting aimed at taking the eggs from its pouch, its numbers had become very scarce.

Aside from seeing them at Pokémon Centers, wild Chansey were almost impossible to find.

Ralts was a very popular Pokémon. The Gardevoir it evolved into was beloved by countless people for its beautiful, aloof appearance, and was equally rare in the wild.

Bulbasaur was a Grass-type starter from the Kanto region, but in the Hoenn region where no Bulbasaur lived, this Bulbasaur's value was no less than Chansey's.

Abra, though trainers often saw them in the wild.

But capturing this Pokémon was equally difficult, because once they sensed an enemy's presence, they would use Teleport to escape. Even while sleeping, they would give themselves the suggestion to escape using Teleport.

Its capture difficulty was very high, which greatly increased its value.

As for Gastly and Ditto...

Although these two Pokémon were somewhat more common than the other four, as the initial stage of the popular Pokémon Gengar, Gastly was equally popular.

For a breeding house, Ditto's value was indescribable.

With it, the breeding house could continuously produce Pokémon eggs.

Regarding this, Carver could only say the Pokémon hunters had excellent taste.

Adding the Bagon that Jun had rescued, if this batch of Pokémon had been successfully sold, those two would probably never have to worry for the rest of their lives and could achieve financial freedom directly.

Carver sincerely hoped these six Pokémon could stay at the breeding house.

If they were unwilling, though he'd feel somewhat regretful, Carver was prepared to respect their choice.

But before that, he needed to help these Pokémon heal the psychological trauma they had suffered with the Pokémon hunters.

Gentle companionship and careful care—both were indispensable.

Carver looked toward the other Pokémon in the breeding house.

Should they hold a welcome party tonight?

But whether excessive enthusiasm would frighten those Pokémon was also a concern.

After thinking for a moment, Carver decided to take things gradually and slowly.

With so many Pokémon suddenly joining, Carver temporarily had no opportunity to go to Meteor Falls to capture that Bagon.

First, if he went out, the breeding house's strongest fighters, Growlithe and Bewear, would have to leave with him.

Then the breeding house would be left unguarded.

If some ordinary Team Aqua or Team Magma members showed up, it would be over.

"We really need to strengthen the breeding house's power!" Carver thought.

During this time, Growlithe's strength had reached a bottleneck.

All the Pokémon eggs had been sold, so he temporarily had no way to hold a second King's Tournament.

However, Growlithe was working very hard.

It seemed to sense Carver's thoughts, so it began training independently every day under Carver's arrangements, determined to become stronger and protect the breeding house.

Running around the vast backyard to build its physique, practicing Ember to increase its proficiency with moves...

As for the Exp. Share, Carver gave it to Oddish to wear, having it stay near Growlithe to gain experience.
