Chapter 7
Evelyn: POV.
The morning was surprisingly calm and full of sunshine.
I shielded my eyes from the soft orange rays that pierced through the small square window at the opposite wall from my bed, a soft groan escaped my lips as I sat up straight on the bed rubbing my face with my hands,to remove the sleepiness that covered my features.
After rethinking my life for a while I finally decided to get my day started. After cleaning up I wore my maids uniform , tying up my hair in a casual ban and prepared to leave the room.
As usual there weren't many activities going on yet at this time , only some few maids going here and there, cleaning up and arranging things.
I went into the kitchen with the intention of helping Elizabeth prepare breakfast,l was mostly given kitchen duties, since I was pretty good at them .
I set the table, and some other maids were sent to call the family down for dinner ,by Elizabeth.
Through out most of the day I did some work , not that I wanted to but I had to ,to continue planning my escape plan which had started making sense.
There was a place I rarely saw guards and through out my observations 6pm, was a busy and the perfect hour for my plan to take place, many people were busy with preparing for a break which was a perfect opportunity for one to slip out unnoticed .
My steps were steady as I walked through the corridor , that was played out with wooden floor boreds that were polished perfectly , the walls were painted with a classic ivory color ,the sun lit the entire corridor with soft light orange rays that created a peaceful feeling to whoever witnessed it.
I noticed a door at one side of the corridor ,a door I had never seen before or maybe I was just didn't notice it , since I was so caught up in my escaping desire.
My foot steps slowed down as I neared the door , I wasn't necessarily scared but I didn't know what layed beyond that door, and that was the unpredictable part,my heart pounded in anticipation as my hand reached for the doorknob, my fingers wrapped around it and I twisted it ,a cracking sound was heard as the door opened .
I stayed frozen for a while, then slowly and firmly a smile appeared on my face it wasn't the widest but it was genuine.
My eyes flickered to the rows or shelves filled with books,I wasn't much of a reader but I did read once in a while and being stuck in this place with nothing better to do ,the idea of reading just became more interesting and exciting.
I walked in leaving the door slightly open ,the room was big with wooden floor boreds that gave out ancient vibes, a large window located at one side of the room that lit up the whole place with the sun's orange rays, that come as strips of light that exposed the dust that was dancing around in the air , three large book shelves that were filled with books of every size.
My steps were slow as I walked along one of the bookshelves, I let my fingers swipe along some of the book covers as i read their titles.
My fingers lingered on one of the books for longer than I anticipated, I wrapped my fingers along it's edge and pulled it out ,it had a maroon coloured cover with it's title written in gold writings .
The defined queen, the golden words read.
I took it and sat at one corner of the room where there was a simple square table.
I slid down the seat and opened the book after blowing out the bust that occupied it .
I spent a long while reading through the pages, with each passing one getting more interesting than the last.
I was so engrossed in the book I didn't notice someone walking in .
"Didn't know you liked reading"a calm voice startled me, I snapped my gaze towards the direction of the voice ,there I saw Carson standing a few metres away from the table I occupied, I swallowed hard I didn't know if I was allowed in here.
"I'm sorry I..."my worried voice was cut off "it's okay, you can read as much books as you'd like, it's not like I can keep this all to myself "hi said in a firm and steady voice but I could see the glint of amusement that lingered in his eyes as long as I have ever been able to see.
He was wearing a black buttoned up shirt with no tie , black trousers , his shoes clicked on the floor as he walked towards one of the shelves different from the one I looked at, his hands tucked inside his trousers pockets.
He didn't look at me even once as he searched for a specific book "but that is my spot by the way"he continued after the long pause his side profile facing me .
He walked back and my heart pounding as he sat across from me ,I didn't ultra a word and just stared at him as he opened his book and started reading his forearms resting on the wooden table.
His dark hair was neatly combed back with a few strands falling on his forehead nearly poking his eyes, his dark grey eyes forcused on the book in his hands .
"Nice choice " I said casually fickering my eyes back to my book as he looked up at me.
"I would say the same for you to"his voice came catching me of guard, my eyes flickered to his and I could feel a slight curl appear at the corner of my lips.
"I just picked a random book "I admitted ,his eyes returned to his book with a hint of amusement."well, you just happened to pick the right one " his voice had a hint of anticipation.
"Well then lucky me I guess,"I said closing my book and stood up from my seat"I better go help Elizabeth "my final words came in a colder voice than I expected as the memory of me being kept here against my will flashed through my brain .
I left the room without waiting for an answer.
I didn't need one , I didn't want one.
