Chapter 17 - Meeting

Over the next few hours, Logan followed Edric's physical training plan without complaints. From high-intensity endurance training to strength exercises, Logan did them all despite his body aching through most of it.

By the time Logan had completed Edric's basic goals for the day, he was soaked in sweat as his chest heavily heaved up and down.

'I've never felt better,' Logan thought, laying flat on the ground.

"You're adapting quicker than I expected," Edric said, tossing a towel on his face. "We'll increase the intensity tomorrow."

"Increase?" Logan mumbled, grabbing the towel off his face.

"Alright," he said with a smile, standing up despite his fatigue.

"Say, have you thought about using a weapon already?" Edric asked, pointing at the rack of weapons.

"Thought about using one? Yes. Do I know which one? No," Logan answered, wiping the sweat off his face with the towel.

Looking at Logan's weak physical body, Edric smiled. "No need to rush, you haven't even got the basics down yet."

"I just wondered if you wanted to use any particular weapon over others," he continued. "Because then I could have prepared for that."

"We'll just figure out what suits you best in about a week."

"Sounds good," Logan answered, raising a thumb.

Looking at his watch, Edric turned back to Logan.

"The people from Virrelon are here in two hours," he said.

"Do I need to go and welcome them with you?" Logan asked, curious.

"No," Edric said firmly. "You're the family head now. I'll bring them to meet with you about an hour after they arrive."

"That's all."

"Alright," Logan said, nodding. "I'll prepare myself to talk with them then."

Edric smiled, nodding approvingly.

"I'll get you your lunch now," he said, standing up. "After that, I need to prepare for Virrelon's reception."

Logan nodded, already salivating as he thought about lunch.

Before Edric left, he stopped at the door.

"I might need to search for a more competent teacher for you later," he said, his voice low.

"Why?" Logan asked, turning to him in surprise.

"You are too talented," Edric answered, sighing. "There's only so much I can teach you compared to what an S-rank could give you."

Logan contemplated for a moment, before slowly nodding. "We'll talk about that later."

"For now, this is more than good enough."

Smiling softly, Edric nodded. Then he continued on his way to get Logan his lunch.

While alone, Logan couldn't help but think about what Edric had said.

'What he said is somewhat correct,' Logan thought. 'Edric's a kind person, but eventually he won't be able to help me any further since my affinity is so much better.'

Shaking his head, Logan quickly dismissed his thoughts. 'This isn't relevant for now,' he thought. 'I have to concentrate on what I want to tell the people from Virrelon.'

Pulling up a hologram, Logan quickly started writing down what he wanted to say and how he preferred them to work during their time here.

After a few minutes, the door opened and Edric walked through, bringing with him a few plates of food.

Moving the hologram to the side, Logan's mouth almost started watering. On the plates were all sorts of meat and herbs, all from dungeons and mana creatures.

"That looks amazing once again," Logan praised.

"My pleasure," Edric answered, putting the plates down on the small table in front of Logan.

"Enjoy your meal," Edric said, walking back to the door. "You deserve it."

Internally, Edric was very impressed by the way Logan had acted today.

'No complaints at all during the physical training,' he thought, closing the door behind him. 'Even though I let him work so hard, he smiled his way through it while paying close attention to my explanations.'

'He's so different compared to the other kids Henry and Marcy had,' Edric thought, reminiscing. 'They were far more spoiled and didn't work nearly as hard.'

Edric fell silent.

'I wonder where they are now...'

Meanwhile, Logan had started munching on the food in front of him, his body still starving from the intense training he'd finished earlier.

Finishing all three plates of meat, Logan sat back.

'There's still two and a half hours until I have the meeting,' he thought, looking at the time. 'I should meditate for a while.'

'At most two more days until I reach bronze-rank, I can feel it,' Logan thought, excited.

Sitting down on his bed, he entered his meditative state and slowly started strengthening his core.

Two hours passed by quickly when Logan finally left his meditative state.

'About half an hour left,' Logan thought. 'I should go put on my suit.'

Putting on a proper suit, Logan looked at himself in the mirror.

'Thanks to the haircut Edric gave me, I finally look fresh and clean,' he thought with appreciation.

Putting on a very expensive watch from a brand he didn't recognize, Logan looked at the time.

'Silas should be coming to get me in a few minutes,' he thought.

'After today, I'll have taken the first step toward a healthy company,' Logan thought, excited at the idea of earning more money in the future.

'I can't wait until I can pull something from the system again.'

Hearing a knock on the door, Logan straightened his tie one more time before walking away from the mirror.

Confirming Silas was outside, Logan opened the door.

"Hi," Logan said, holding up a hand as the door opened.

"I see you are ready," Silas said, nodding approvingly.

"As much as I could be," Logan said, chuckling.

Taking an elevator down, Logan and Silas walked into a luxurious open room.

Silas brought Logan to the head chair and took the seat closest to him incase he needed to protect Logan.

"Edric is bringing them over here now," Silas said, glancing at his watch.

Looking at Silas, Logan nodded, memorizing what he wanted to say one last time inside his head.

Then, Logan heard the doors creak open.

'Let's see how the board reacts to this one,' Logan thought, smiling. 'I wonder how many more assassins I can expect.'
