Chapter 37 - Chapter 5 – Echoes from Unwritten Tomes

Scene: The City of Virelos – Under Siege

Ash floated from the sky.

What used to be a city of light had become a canvas of ruin. The walls of Virelos groaned under the pressure of something no mortal was meant to survive—a gate had opened, and from it came echoes of void-born creatures written into existence without rules.

They weren't demons.

They weren't even from Hell.

They were—Errors.

Malformed beings born of edits rejected from reality.

Syra stood atop a crumbling rooftop, eyes locked on the horizon as the sky bled ink.

Riven joined her, wiping ichor off his blade.

Riven: "Still think you're not the main character?"

Syra (coldly): "Main characters don't get erased mid-scene."

Riven raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

Behind them, a dozen Hunter Corps survivors regrouped in a half-destroyed temple.

They were broken, but alive.

Barely.

Commander Tae: "Another edit storm's coming. We don't have much time."

Syra (quietly): "Then we do it now."

Tae: "Do what?"

She turned. Eyes glowing faintly.

Syra: "Rewrite the ending."

Scene Shift: The Edge of Reality – The Author's Hall

The chamber was more alive than ever. The walls whispered potential endings. Fractured stories flickered in and out of existence.

Author stood between bookshelves taller than stars.

He paused at one.

"Syra: Timeline V-09 (Current Draft)."

He ran his finger across the spine. It shimmered gold.

Author: "She's adapting faster than expected."

A voice echoed behind him.

???: "You gave her the quill."

Author didn't turn.

Author: "She found it. I simply... didn't stop her."

The speaker stepped forward. A woman with golden eyes and ink-streaked hands.

The Editor.

Editor: "She's not stable."

Author: "Neither was I."

Editor: "You're risking another collapse."

Author: "Maybe that's the only way forward."

The Editor frowned, staring at the floating image of Syra's burning city.

Editor: "You've grown attached."

Author: "No. I just remember what happens when the wrong person takes the pen."

He turned the page.

Syra was already beginning the counterspell.

Author (softly): "She's not just a rewrite. She's the rewrite."

Scene Return: Temple of Timebound Flames

Syra drew the circle.

Symbols older than language glowed under her fingers.

Riven: "Where'd you learn this?"

Syra: "I didn't. I remembered."

Tae watched her with a mixture of awe and fear.

Tae: "You're starting to scare even the shadows, Syra."

Syra: "Good."

She struck her palm and pressed it against the runes.

The air ignited—

And from the flame, a voice spoke.

Flame: "Who holds the pen?"

Syra: "I do."

The flame hissed. Then it folded inward, revealing a vault.

Not a place of riches—but one of truths.

Inside were three pages.

Each labeled in the old tongue.

"Godslayer Draft"

"Null Queen Timeline"

"Abandoned Rewrite 1A: Syra as Catalyst"

Riven picked one up, eyes wide.

Riven: "These are…"

Syra: "Me. But not me."

Tae (stepping back): "How many versions of you exist?"

Syra (bitterly): "Enough to break a universe."

She burned two of the pages.

Only the third remained.

Riven: "Why keep this one?"

Syra: "Because this one doesn't end in fire."

Scene Shift: High Above – Council of the Remaining Four Gods

The four surviving gods watched the chaos unfold below.

Third God: "She's accessing plotlines that never happened."

Fourth God: "This isn't natural. Someone's feeding her."

Second God: "The Author?"

First God: "No."

They turned to him.

First God: "She's feeding herself. She's remembering things even the Author left out."

The others exchanged wary glances.

Fourth God: "If she unlocks the true script…"

First God (grim): "Then not even the rewrite will survive."

Final Scene: The Chamber of Forgotten Drafts – Aftermath

After completing the ritual, Syra felt lighter.

As if something inside her had clicked.

For the first time, her scars glowed faintly with celestial light.

Riven watched silently.

Riven: "What are you now?"

Syra (softly): "Not the girl who broke the key. Not the one who trusted Lucian. Not even the one Author watched."

She turned.

Syra: "I'm the one he didn't write."

Far above them, in a realm no longer hidden, Author opened a blank page.

One word shimmered at the top.

"Rewrite."
