I sat in the large hall eating dinner alone because it was 'inappropriate for a maid or servant to sit with the lady of the house and eat with her'.
Since it was way too weird having someone standing behind me while I ate I told Trixie and the guards to just wait outside while I ate.
But it was even more depressing and before I knew it I was trying to estimate how long the table was... when someone suddenly appeared in the chair at the opposite head.
I didn't get a good look at them but didn't really care. I didn't want to die so quickly after I was reborn!
Before I could scream they disappeared and then I felt a hand over my mouth from behind me stopping me from screaming for help.
I felt something touch the back of my head as though it was a gun.
The person paused before saying in a casual tone, "Scream or alert your guards and I'll kill them all without hesitation. Do you understand?"
I raised my hand doing a thumbs up as they slowly lowered their hand from my mouth. I heard their footsteps as they made their way in front of me sitting in the chair just beside and that's when I saw them properly for the first time.
It was a young man with medium length red hair, his face was covered by a white full face mask that had holes for his eyes. His eyes where... steel gray?
He wore a simple black high-collared shirt and matching trousers.
"Is something wrong?" he asked, noticing I was staring.
I was caught off guard as I said, "N-no, I was just... so how may I help you?"
"Actually I'm here to help you," he replied, casually twirling a banana in his hand.
IT WASN'T A GUN! IT WAS A BANANA! A BANANA! STUPID! STUPID! HOW COULD I FALL FOR THAT! THERE ARE NO GUNS HERE!
HE HAD JUST THREATENED ME WITH A BANANA. A BANANA!
I felt like screaming for the guards but I was also curious about what he had to say. Yeah ok I know that's how things always go wrong in films.
Curiosity kills the character. Not to mention I'm also one of those people who screams at the characters when they're about to do something stupid as though they can hear me. But this is different.
I snapped out of my thoughts as I asked the man, "Help with what?"
"Help you through life of course. To make sure you make the right choices and don't die young like in your past life. After all, with the way you've acted since you got here, I wouldn't be surprised if you got executed or disowned and sent to the streets in a few weeks."
Since I got here? He's a stalker!
"Help! Help! Help!" I suddenly started screaming but stopped when he said a single sentence.
"Lady Selene Park, did you already forget what I said?" he asked, sounding annoyed.
As the guards and Trixie rushed to my side, one of them scanned the room before asking, "Lady Selene, are you ok?"
I glanced at where the man was seated before only to see he was gone.
With a smile on my face I looked at the guards and Trixie as I said, "Of course I'm ok, I was just talking to myself, it was just something I was acting out to get rid of my boredom, sorry to worry you, I won't do it again, promise."
The guards relaxed as they bowed saying, "We're just glad you're alright Lady Selene." before leaving.
Trixie stared at me for a moment before also leaving. I turned back to where the man had been seated and he was back.
He chuckled as he said, "It seems I've finally gotten your attention."
"How do you know that name?" I asked wanting to get straight to the point
"I'm a celestial being and one of high rank. It's pretty easy for me to get that type of information. You know the name of the first transmigrator in thousands of years."
"Celestial being?"
"Yes, like an angel. Though I only regained my memories about a year ago. In human years I'm a total of 22 or 23 years old. I lost track a while ago."
"You expect me to believe that?"
"What do I look that old?!"
"What? No! I'm talking about you being an angel."
"You died yet here you are in the book you were reading, you're the adopted daughter of an earl and yet you won't believe I am an angel?"
I did believe him but I couldn't tell him that in case he was lying.
"Yeah, I'm not trusting you till I get proof, plus what exactly would a celestial being be doing here among 'mortals'? And one of a supposedly high rank."
"I may have broken an important rule. So now I have to live a complete mortal life before I may return. And on top of everything I have to guide you through your second life in this world and make sure the once in a thousand year transmigrator lives a full and happy new life."
"Fine, I'll play along. But don't slip up in front of others. My name is Selene Deacon now, not Parker."
"Of course, Selene. I look forward to seeing this friendship bloom into something beautiful."
"Friendship is a strong word. Let's stick with acquaintances." I replied with an innocent smile on my face.
"Ok, if you insist, but I do hope we can become friends at one point. If you ever need help just say my name but I'll probably come to you if you're ever in trouble." he said before vanishing.
I stared at the empty seat, a celestial being... I don't want to be naive and believe him but how else could he know my other name?
From what I know magic doesn't exist in this world or at least humans don't possess magic only enhancements. So him being a celestial being would explain how he can teleport.
And what exactly could he have done to be banished and forced to live a full mortal lifetime?
Well at least I had a plan A in case I got into a life threatening situation, it was better than nothing. All I had to do was say his name.
His name...
I don't know his name! I was panicking but also annoyed at the same time.
What was I supposed to do? Yell, "Hey you, weird banana guy!" and hope for the best?!
