A few maids moved to and through the receiving parlour setting sweets and tea atop the table for Katherine and her guest. The tea brewed showing it was still very hot at the moment giving off a strong cinnamon scent.
The elegant looking man sat straight without his back leaning on the chair, a smile on his face as she kept his gaze fixed on Katherine.
Look at him shining his eyes like a Knight's torch and a weird smile. Katherine thought snorting inwardly as she flashed him a very gorgeous smile.
Having received a smile in return he proceeded to speak.
"Lady Katherine, how delighted did the party make you?, you seem to have had a great time yesterday". Jacob a subordinate of the duke asked.
"Yes I did". Katherine simply answered.
"Very well then I shall relay your answer to the duke, seems everyone invited had a good time". Jacob said getting to his feet.
"Jacob..."
"Yes lady Katherine".
"Do you by any chance know the man I danced with last night?". Katherine asked fidgeting with her gown as if pulling invisible threads from it.
Jacob felt her actions were cute and seems like the little lady had fallen in love. He smiled having his seat again.
"It seems my lady has had her heart stolen away, tell me the name of this young man?".
"Benjamin".
"Lord Benjamin" Jacob repeated a little astonished.
"Lord!".Katherine exclaimed.
"You mean lord Benjamin, Duke of Halendor".
Jacob said this time correction her mistake.
Katherine immediately got to her feet bowing in a sign to apologise. "Forgive my imprudence, I had no idea who he was, forget that I ever said anything regarding this".
"Yes this shouldn't get past this room". Jacob retorted getting to his feet and left the room .
Katherine could hear her heart in pounding in her ear , she couldn't bring herself to stop bowing and stand upright till he had left the room shutting the door behind him.
She crashed on the chair breathing hard, she didn't even know she had held her breath all this while.
"Oh my God, I hope I am not on his bad side now". she thought covering her little face with her palm.
She breathed a sigh of relief picking a sweet from the variety in the bowl on the table then into her mouth.
He didn't have any sweet she thought munching on a mouthful of sweet this was the only chance she could have them afterall.
He's too arrogant for just a favourite subordinate, I hope he doesn't tell on me. Katherine thought pouting as she walked out of the room leaving it empty.
