Chapter 89 - The Ultimate Villain: Thanos

"Stark, you must have some idea. Tell us what you're thinking!"

Nick Fury, his one good eye fixed on Iron Man, spoke with conviction.

"Thanos!"

Iron Man's expression was grave as he uttered those two words.

Upon hearing this, everyone present couldn't help but look grim.

Who was Thanos? Besides Thor, no one was unaware. He was the cosmic overlord who launched the Final Battle against Earth!

"During the Final Battle, I snatched the Infinity Stones from Thanos in the end, and snapped my fingers. Thanos's entire army turned to dust."

"The situation then was exactly the same as when Nick Fury and the others turned to ashes! So, Nick Fury and the others should also have died from the power of the snap!"

Coulson, who had also watched the footage of the Final Battle, nodded in agreement. "That's right. The situation then and the situation now are indeed the same."

At this point, there was basically no doubt.

After all, two different methods resulting in the exact same consequence had a very low probability.

The most likely explanation was the same method leading to the same consequence! In other words, Nick Fury and the others had also died by the same method: the Snap!

"The Infinity Stones were initially in Thanos's possession, so whether Thanos snapped his fingers or I later snatched the Stones and snapped my fingers, Thanos would inevitably descend upon Earth!"

"The unidentified objects above Wakanda are a good piece of evidence. Those unidentified objects should be Thanos's fleet!" Stark added.

"I agree with Stark's point of view," Black Widow also nodded solemnly.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. is now the largest intelligence agency in the world, possessing almost all the intelligence on Earth."

"Even S.H.I.E.L.D. uses the term 'unidentified objects' to describe them, which means those objects are beyond S.H.I.E.L.D.'s understanding."

"To a certain extent, those unidentified objects are beyond the understanding of conventional technological civilization, and it is indeed possible they are from an alien civilization."

The scale of S.H.I.E.L.D. is astonishing; they not only have their own dedicated analysis department but also have terrifyingly vast authority.

If something truly beyond conventional understanding appears, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s own analysis department will conduct relevant analysis.

If S.H.I.E.L.D. itself cannot analyze it, they have the authority to mobilize the world's top scientists or any related resources.

In a word, if S.H.I.E.L.D. can't figure it out, it represents not only S.H.I.E.L.D., but also the top scientific and technological power on Earth.

In this situation, S.H.I.E.L.D. still describing them as "unidentified objects" really says a lot.

"It's not just that," Nick Fury also mentioned the energy signal in New York."

Captain America added thoughtfully, "Nick Fury had mentioned the unidentified objects that appeared in Wakanda. Linking that to the energy signal in New York suggests that the two energy signals are very similar, or even identical!"

"In other words, what happened in Wakanda is related to something that happened in New York before!"

"So, what exactly happened in New York that was out of the ordinary?"

"The Battle of New York," Coulson stated heavily.

No one in the room voiced any objections, because the Battle of New York was the only thing anyone could currently think of.

After all, it was a time of peace. Although there were minor conflicts and clashes one after another, major wars had not occurred.

And as one of the most prosperous and important cities in America, New York held a pivotal position in the entire country, and nothing out of the ordinary should have happened. In this situation, talk of "energy signals" just didn't seem to fit.

The Battle of New York certainly has the biggest "suspicion."

The energy signal probably refers to the energy signal of the Chitauri fleet.

"Stark is right! The exact same manner of death, the energy signal in New York, the unidentified object appearing in Wakanda… these things are so strongly correlated, verifying and complementing each other. This already constitutes a logical chain of evidence!"

Nick Fury nodded heavily, showing his agreement.

"Stark, do you remember the first time we participated in the quiz?" Coulson suddenly remembered something and said to Iron Man and everyone.

"One of the battles took place on an alien planet, where you were fighting Thanos."

"Another battle should have taken place on Earth, but you died from the backlash of the Infinity Stones."

"So... that's why S.H.I.E.L.D. couldn't find Stark?" Captain America immediately understood what Coulson meant.

"That's possible!"

A glint flashed in Nick Fury's one good eye.

Coulson's deduction immediately strengthened the connection between the Final Battle and the invasion of Wakanda.

"Hill said we couldn't contact Stark through any of the satellites we monitor across both hemispheres. That doesn't quite make sense for Stark, considering he has Jarvis!"

"Of course, it's possible Stark is deliberately avoiding S.H.I.E.L.D., but... what if Stark wasn't even on Earth at the time? What if he was off-world, battling a purple potato?"

"Or... Stark was on the verge of death, or already dead... These two scenarios fit the logic better!"

As everyone analyzed the situation, more and more evidence pointed to one thing: Thanos was also the mastermind behind the Wakanda battle.

"Infinity Stones? You've been talking about Infinity Stones. What's going on?" Thor asked, a bit bewildered, from the side.

"During the war when Thanos invaded Earth, he used the six Infinity Stones to fight against Earth. But later, the Infinity Stones were taken by Stark, who used them to kill Thanos, but also sacrificed himself."

Coulson briefly explained to Thor.

"Thanos actually collected all six Infinity Stones?"

"Stark took the stones from Thanos?"

Thor was even more confused; either of those two things seemed impossible to him.

What exactly was Thanos capable of, that he could collect all six Infinity Stones? If he really did, then he must be a big shot in the universe. How could Stark, a mere mortal, possibly snatch the stones back from such a big shot?

Nick Fury ignored Thor and continued to address everyone, "The mastermind behind the Battle of Wakanda is Thanos, there's no doubt about that."

"And before that, we also speculated that Thanos might have been the mastermind behind the Battle of New York, and now, we have further evidence to support that speculation."

"So, in the end... it's still Thanos!"

"This person, as it seems, is our ultimate enemy!"

The atmosphere in the room became somewhat somber. The Battle of New York, the battle in Wakanda, and the Final Battle – it seemed Thanos was behind it all.

The name Thanos was, to say the least, deeply etched into the hearts of everyone present.
