Chapter 85 - Iron Man is the Prime Suspect?

"A Batman cape? I didn't expect the quiz system to reward things from comics!"

Iron Man said, looking surprised at the big screen.

Batman was a very popular comic in their world, so popular it could be called a "blue-collar manga."

Comics, anime, movies... there was always one you'd seen.

Except for Thor and the recently revived Captain America, everyone present knew who Batman was.

"If rewards from comics are appearing, will rewards from movies or novels appear later? I'm really looking forward to it," Iron Man's eyes twinkled with anticipation.

He was really looking forward to it.

"Alright, Stark, let's get back to the quiz," Captain America said, seeing the conversation going off-topic, and steered it back on track.

"To call out for one's mother before dying... that suggests the person in the option must have deeply loved their mother. They must be a very filial person."

Having realized the question-and-answer system was real, Thor finally took the initiative to participate and began analyzing.

"I'm not sure about the others, but I'm definitely not the type to call for my mother before I die," Nick Fury said, resolutely excluding himself.

He knew himself well. He simply wasn't that kind of person.

"I agree, sir," Black Widow nodded in agreement.

If their superior cursed a few times before dying, that was possible. But calling for his mother?

That really wasn't Nick Fury's style.

"Stark, what about you?" Black Widow then turned her questioning gaze towards Iron Man.

There wasn't a better way to analyze this question. Since some of the people involved were present, asking them seemed the most reasonable approach.

"Me?"

Iron Man was taken aback. Usually so eloquent and full of ideas, he opened his mouth but didn't say anything.

After a few seconds, he shrugged. "To be honest... I'm not really sure."

Iron Man had always been deeply troubled by the death of his parents.

Because on the last day before their deaths, he had a falling out with them.

This incident had always been a knot in Iron Man's heart. He always felt very guilty towards his parents.

Under this guilt, if Iron Man were to die one day, it was very possible that he would be thinking of his parents.

"Stark speechless? Now that's a first," Black Widow couldn't help but tease.

"Stark, we all saw the footage from the final battle. You... you didn't call out for your mother. You called for Pepper," Coulson reminded everyone, his expression serious.

"So, we can rule out Stark?" Thor looked up at the big screen.

"No, we can't just rule him out," Nick Fury said after a moment of thought, disagreeing.

"We've seen it clearly. The quiz system presents the future through images."

"And those images, like movies, are created through editing and splicing. In other words, we can treat those scenes like movie clips."

"There isn't necessarily a strict chronological order between one scene and the next."

"For instance, the footage of Captain America escaping the Triskelion. The last shot showed him leaving the office, and the next showed him in the elevator."

"The entire process of going from the office to the elevator was skipped."

"That makes sense!" Black Widow nodded, agreeing with Nick Fury's assessment. "If that's the case, perhaps the question-answering system didn't show things it deemed unimportant or unnecessary."

"Coulson, the footage of Stark's death in the final battle, was that a 'one-shot'?" Nick Fury asked Coulson again, his tone serious.

"No, sir, I don't recall it being a one-shot. There were cuts." Coulson replied, recalling the scene and confirming with Iron Man, "Stark, isn't that right?"

"There were indeed cuts." Iron Man nodded as well.

Both Iron Man and Coulson remembered the cuts, so the chances of them being mistaken were slim.

"So, even though Stark called out to Pepper, it was actually Pepper who called out to Stark first, and he was responding…"

Coulson thought carefully for a moment, then spoke to everyone again.

This statement further intensified Stark's "suspicion."

"So, Stark TBD. Captain, what about you?" Nick Fury turned his inquiring gaze toward Captain America. "Who were you thinking of before you crashed in the Arctic Ocean?"

Although everyone knew, through the interview with Peggy Carter, that Captain America was on a call with Carter before his death, and even fell into the river during the call.

However, falling into the river didn't necessarily mean immediate death, especially for Captain America, a super soldier whose physical condition far exceeded that of ordinary people.

It was likely that it would take a long time before he succumbed to death.

Everyone was uncertain about who Captain America was thinking of at the moment of his impending demise.

"It wasn't my mother," Captain America said, without revealing who he was thinking of, only giving a negative answer.

"Rogers can also be ruled out." Thor turned his gaze to the last option. "Who is Hawkeye Barton? He doesn't seem to be at the scene."

"Barton is one of my most loyal and reliable agents." Nick Fury explained to Thor with a serious expression. After pondering for a while, he also gave his own guess, "I don't think it would be Barton either."

Because Hawkeye Barton had his own family, a wife and children, and Barton loved his family very, very much.

So Nick Fury felt that if Barton were really dead, what he would be thinking about would be his family, which was a higher probability than thinking about his mother.

However, Hawkeye's family was currently under wraps, so Nick Fury only stated his judgment without giving specific reasons.

"Looking at it this way, three can be ruled out, and there's still one TBD, Stark, so the answer to this question seems to be very obvious."

Captain America scanned the people around him and said, finding that everyone looked like they agreed, and no one raised any objections.
