It's another day, and now I feel confident to go to school. I don't know why—I just woke up feeling like it.
"You got a nice sleep, Mary?" Uncle Greg asked. He was wearing a red outfit—he really made himself the main character. He even changed the school uniform from red to blue, saying no one should wear red. Yet here he is, owning the color by making every part of his office red.
His office, which was originally my dad's office. And red was my mom's color.
"I did, Uncle," I said with a simple smile.
"Four days to go until the School Festival. Are you ready?"
"I'm still preparing—" I started to answer, but he cut me off.
"Preparing? You got that mystery magior of yours a month ago, right? Haven't you been preparing? Hmm… tsk. Hope you won't embarrass our name," he said in a very doubtful tone.
"Oh, I won't, Uncle… Promise." I said it like it was already done.
"Mary! Good thing I saw you now… about what happened yesterday—I don't know why Uncle was acting like that… I really don't," RJ said when we ran into each other in the corridor on our way to our first class, which was computer.
"It's okay, RJ. Maybe he's just stressed… don't think too much about it," I replied with a smile.
"But about the necklace… can I see it?" he asked.
"Uhmm… I left it. Maybe it's too flashy—it's literally a real emerald necklace." He just nodded and went silent as we entered class.
I touched my neck, feeling the necklace. I'm sorry I lied, RJ. I just had to.
I wanted to tell everyone who helped me about this, but it was specifically stated not to. I don't want them to face any consequences. I only told Micah because I didn't want her to be upset. I just asked her to tell me immediately if she felt anything strange.
"Have you tried it?" Speaking of Micah—here she is now, walking beside me. We're not in the same class, but she waited to talk about this.
"No. What about you? Do you feel anything wrong?"
"As of now, nothing…"
"Just tell me if you do. And Mics," I paused and turned to her before continuing, "let's avoid talking about this in public. I don't want to imagine the worst if too many people find out." She nodded silently and walked to her class.
I was walking through the lobby when I overheard some girls talking about magior. I didn't think much of it at first, but one girl caught my full attention.
"I have magior, but what's the use if I can only see the past? I can't even change it."
I stopped and walked closer to them.
"Hi! I'm sorry, but I overheard your conversation… you have a magior that lets you see the past?"
"Yeah… I know, it's useless—"
"No! Actually, it's not. I just want to know how you do that. I never thought that was even possible," I said, curiosity clearly in my voice.
"Well, actually, this magior only works if you're at the location of the event you want to revisit."
"How did you do that?"
"You really want to know? Okay. I just closed my eyes, concentrated, and thought of the moment I wanted to return to. But even when I go back, I can't change anything—no matter what I do," she explained.
I might get a chance to go back to the time before the night of the show.
I smiled at her before saying goodbye. "Thank you. I'm just really curious, nothing more." She nodded and left, as did I.
To Micah:Meet me at the same place after class, Mic. I learned something I want to try.
I sent the message before heading to class.
The rest of the classes felt boring. My mind just wanted the day to end so I could leave. And finally—the bell rang. Classes were over. I quickly packed my things and was about to leave when Jade stopped me.
"Mary! Come with us later. Let's practice for the school fest next week," he said.
"Maybe next time, Jad. I'm a bit tired. I promise—next time." I gave him a quick hug before leaving. He was stunned when I said no—maybe because it was me who asked him to practice last time. But now, when he's finally available, I declined.
"What is it, Mary?" Micah asked instantly when she arrived.
"I met this girl at school who has a natural magior that lets her go back into the past. I want to try it. I think I can use it to learn what really happened that night—before and during the show," I said, my voice full of excitement.
"Oh, that makes sense! Try it! Maybe we'll finally get some insight."
"Okay, I will."
"Look closely at everything around you, Mary, and tell me every detail." I nodded.
I closed my eyes and focused on the time—the night before it all happened. A strange feeling came over me. My mind went dark, and the next thing I knew, I was standing in my room. Everything was in black and white. Then I saw myself… lying on the floor, stressed about the magior show. The window was open. Nothing unusual in the room—just my usual mess.
A knock on the door—it was Reina. She was the only person I met that night. When my past self got up to open the door, I walked closer to the books I had been reading… nothing strange. I waited until Reina left, watching my past self closely. Eventually, I ate the food she brought. It really was delicious.
Then a strong wind blew in. My phone lit up, and a bright light filled the room. I forced myself to keep my eyes open, even though it was almost blinding. I'm not sure, but it looked like the light came from the box. It lasted for—I don't know how long. My past self eventually passed out.
When the light vanished, everything looked normal again, like nothing had happened. I just looked like I was sleeping.
Then someone entered—sneaking. I couldn't tell who it was. Their whole body was covered, only the eyes were visible. And since I couldn't see colors, I couldn't even tell the color of their eyes.
They checked on me, as if they already knew I would be unconscious at that time. Then they took my phone! And just like that, they left.
Why? Why my phone?
Then I felt strange again—and the next thing I knew, I was back in the cabin. Micah was flipping through pages when she felt my presence.
"Mary!" She ran to me and hugged me. "Oh gosh—you were lost!"
"Lost? What do you mean?"
"You vanished into thin air! I waited for minutes, then hours—you were gone for five hours!"
"Five hours? That felt like minutes," I said, thinking back. "But that's not important now. I learned something."
Her attention shifted quickly. She grabbed a pen and paper.
"During that night, a strong wind blew in, and a really bright light appeared. I watched closely—it looked like it came from the boxes I was scrolling through," I started. "And my phone… someone took it after I passed out."
"Someone? Who? Was it a girl or a guy?"
"I don't know. The person's whole body was covered. I could only see their eyes—but not even the color, since everything was black and white."
"Someone wanted to ruin you, Mary! This wasn't just some electric shock—it was a planned attack!"
