Chapter 10 - [Ch:10] Gimme Two Weeks

"Kaaah-ha-ha!!! Hah! What the heck happened to you, Goldie? Who went and kicked that quirkless butt of yours?"

I ignored Bakugo and his group, who were loitering in the hallway. I had already mentally prepared myself since I knew he would be the one to make fun of me.

I had been so excited after learning about the anklet's abilities that I ended up giving it a test run that very night. Unfortunately, that test run ended horribly, and it ended with me face-planting right into the carpeted floor.

'Thank god it was carpet.'

While there didn't seem to be any severe damage, I still ended up with roughly half my face bruised. And now I was heading over to the nurse's office. Thankfully, our school nurse, Mrs Nakomoto, has the quirk Area Heal, which should take care of the giant bruise.

When I entered the room, I was greeted by the young green-haired woman who was the crush of many of the male students.

The moment she saw my bruised face, she quickly grabbed a green dry-erase marker and began outlining and filling in the injured area.

"What happened? Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere else?"

I scratched my head in an embarrassed manner as I began telling the story I had made up.

"Last night, while I got out of bed, I ended up tripping on something and ended up falling face-first into my floor. When I fell, I think I also hurt my neck a bit."

After I showed her the area that was hurting, she circled it with the marker, and I began to feel a cold, tingling sensation in the area.

She asked me to sit down, and after a 30-minute treatment, she began wiping the marker ink off of me.

"There you go; you should now be as good as new."

"Thanks, Mrs. Nakomoto. Your right. It doesn't hurt anymore."

"Great, I'm glad to hear that; here's take this note so that you don't get in trouble."

I thanked her again and hurried to my class.

Right after class, I decided to visit my mom, as I felt guilty for having basically ignored her over the past two days.

When I went inside the restaurant, I found Mom having her lunch.

"Hi Ma"

A smile appeared on her face when she saw that the bruise that I had in the morning had disappeared.

"Oh, thank god, I have my handsome son back."

'Ouch Ma'

"What do you mean, mom? Shouldn't mothers see their son as handsome no matter what?."

A mischievous smile appeared on her face as she nodded. "True to me, you'll always be handsome, but the uninjured, you will always be the most handsome. So make sure that you don't get hurt again, alright?"

I sat down and sighed, "I'll try my best."

As she heard me, her face showed a hint of worry. She seemed to think something over before she began speaking.

"Hey, Kinji, you know that I will always support you and your decisions, but…..Could it be that you've been pushing yourself far too hard? Your dreams of being a hero…. If anything were to happen to you because of me, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself."

'Ma…..I would love to tell you about everything that's happening to me right now, but I can't. If you knew that I was chatting with actual gods, I'm pretty sure that would do nothing but worry you…'

"Mom, being a hero is what my choice. As a kid, I told you that I would be a great hero like you were, but over time, it all changed. I now want to become a hero only to save people. If I become as great as you in the process, then it wouldn't hurt, but again, it isn't because of you….."

I looked into her watery eyes, and I stood up to give her a hug.

"I know how much I've worried you, Ma. Do you trust me?"

I could feel the nodding motion of her head that was in my chest. After a few seconds, she finally said yes, her voice breaking slightly.

"Great, then give me two weeks starting tomorrow…. In two weeks, I'll show you what I'm working on. I'll show you that you don't have to worry about me getting hurt, okay?"

She froze but nodded.

"Then it's a deal, but these two weeks, I might end up too tired. If I don't greet you, don't worry, okay?

My mom looked at me with a confused expression but nodded.

Seeing that she had calmed down, I sighed and took a seat beside her.

"Ma, can I ask you a question?"

She stopped wiping her tears and nodded, "What do you want to ask?"

"If I was born with a quirk, what type of quirk would you have wanted me to have?"

The question took her by surprise. I could tell that she was having conflict answering the question, probably not wanting to hurt my feelings.

"When you first opened your eyes…. I could have sworn that your golden eyes glowed in a golden light. When I saw them, a warmth like no other spread through my body; all the pain and exhaustion I had felt disappeared. I was told that it might have been an illusion from the anesthesia, but I couldn't believe it. I... I imagined a future where you could help people with the angelic, golden light you had used to heal me... But I'm more proud of this version of you. The way you don't give up no matter what. I love you, son."

'Glowing golden eyes? Is it because of my divine nectar quirk? Does that mean I was born with my quirk, and it lay dormant all this time? Not only that, but I can use the quirk in other ways than just melting and making drinks.'

"Thanks for telling me the story, Mom. I have to get started working. Remember that you might not see me at home much, but don't worry, I'll be in my room, and I won't be doing anything dangerous."

"Okay, as long as you don't overwork yourself and get hurt."

As I walked home, I began thinking back to the conversation that my mother and I just had.

"Angelic? That's not really the path that I was thinking about? I personally think that Gang Orca and Ectoplasm are the best. Just their looks alone should scare the living hell out of the villains. Not only that but where there is one, a whole gang is present. But since Mom wants an "angelic" style, I'll go with that and have the Death Cavaliers as a secondary ability. If there are Death Cavaliers, I wonder if there are actual angels….. I wonder if Ainz can supply me with some, but first, I need to show him that I mean business."
