Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Friends and Humans' Hearts

Scarlett was lying on the bed, her face flushed. Thalira went inside, followed by the vigilant Evelyn. She sat on Scarlett's bed, but Evelyn was staying a few meters away from them, biting her lips nervously.

"What's wrong with her?" Evelyn cautiously asked.

Thalira touched Scarlett's exposed skin. It was scorching hot. The girl was unconscious, but her teeth chattered, followed by gasps and whimpers.

She went to check other parts of Scarlett's body, noticing some faint marks there when she used her mental power. Scarlett must have gotten scratched outside before, and the wounds healed quickly.

How did she pass the inspection, though? Thalira's gaze unwittingly went to Evelyn, who avoided her gaze. She narrowed her eyes.

"Tell me the truth, Evelyn. Otherwise, I can't help you." Her tone turned stern.

Evelyn's eyelashes trembled, and she bit her nails harder. She stood there as if she hadn't heard Thalira's words. When she noticed that after a long time there wasn't a movement, she lifted her eyes to check on Thalira's figure.

She accidentally gazed straight into Thalira's watery, but stern eyes. Her figure flinched.

After a while, she gritted her teeth. "Scarlett got scratched when she was trying to help… help me."

"How did she pass the inspection?" Thalira asked.

As if it had taken a lot of effort from her, Evelyn slowly approached the bed. As she walked, she muttered under her breath, "It was just a minor scratch… so I-I applied some makeup on her skin. They didn't notice it."

Oh, there was also such a thing. Evelyn's words made sense. Because in the original owner's memories, she was indeed a quite skilled makeup artist.

"Is she going to be alright?" Evelyn nervously asked when she noticed Thalira had gone quiet again.

Thalira pursed her lips. She wasn't a naïve tiger, so she could see that something was suspicious about this whole incident. Her eyes involuntarily fell on the figure on the bed, who was scrunching her face like she was in some kind of pain.

Maybe only Scarlett can give her answer to all of this.

"She might awaken her power." Thalira said as she glanced at Evelyn's face. The girl's countenance turned a bit stiff before she smiled.

"That would be great, but…" she paused. "Do we need to send her to the infirmary?"

Thalira had a feeling that Evelyn didn't want to bring Scarlett to the infirmary. In a casual tone, she tested her. "Do you want to bring her there?"

Evelyn subconsciously shook her head. Upon realizing what she was doing, she widened her eyes. She stuttered a bit as she tried to explain, "It's just that we have come to this. Most likely we will get into trouble if we bring her there. We will need to explain…"

Thalira nodded, not at all surprised. Inwardly, she sighed. Just look at how the apocalypse had begun to change the human's hearts, slowly but surely. Only some were strong enough to remain steadfast in front of so many challenges.

Nevermind. If they bring Scarlett to the infirmary, she wouldn't be able to use her spiritual power to help her, anyway. Oh, how she wished that she had awakened her wood ability.

Besides the super rare light ability and water ability, wood ability had a hint of healing power as well. At least from the original owner's memory, she had such a powerful ability where her wood power mutated that it showed signs of life force.

Even in the divine beast realm, many beast clans would covet such a heaven-defying power.

However, Thalira hadn't awakened it until now. The original owner's memory was also quite vague about it. How should she awaken it?

"Do you still have some water?" She turned to Evelyn, her tone slightly colder.

The girl jolted, and she hurriedly nodded. She went to her backpack and dragged a bottle of water from there.

Thalira took the water from her hand and went to the kitchen. When she returned, the water inside had been replaced by the water from her inner world. In order not to make Evelyn suspicious, she told her, "I added some salt to the water. Since we don't have that much water, we can only do this."

Evelyn hurriedly nodded, not daring to refute her words. After all, Thalira also had lived there before, and she knew where they had put the salt.

She watched from the side as Thalira applied the water to Scarlett's face and some of her exposed skin. Secretly, she also helped Scarlett using her spiritual power. After she was done, she put the bottle away.

"Where are you going?" Evelyn chased after her, following Thalira to the shared kitchen of their dorm.

Thalira glanced at her. There was worry and fear in Evelyn's face. It seemed that she also had seen how those zombies looked like and it traumatized her.

She was even scared of Scarlett now.

"I am just putting those things away," Thalira muttered, and she went back inside. Evelyn still followed her.

She was so sure that Scarlett would be an ability user because of the original owner's memories. Although after the apocalypse started, they were no longer close, she still heard some news.

The water from Thalira's inner world and spiritual power would help to speed up the process of the awakening. Scarlett would awaken a water ability user.

Some hours later, Thalira jolted when she heard a shriek. She snapped her head to the source, finding that Scarlett was clutching Evelyn's hand tightly. There was some kind of twisted expression on Scarlett's face and undisguised hatred.

"Scarlett?" Thalira cleared her throat awkwardly and called out.

Scarlett finally let go of Evelyn, leaving visible marks on her hands. With eyes full of fear, Evelyn scurried away and hid behind Thalira.

Evelyn's tone was filled with anger as she rubbed her sore hands. "Scarlett Hayes, what do you think you are doing?!"

Unlike Scarlett's usual calm and collected demeanor, she sneered when she heard Evelyn's words. "Even to this point, you are still asking this question? I have never met someone as shameless as you!"
