Chapter Eleven: Chunin Exams Three
"First of all, congratulations on finishing the second exam!" Anko shouted, smirking at us.
We're assembled for the annual speech. In canon, seven teams passed. With my team, it's eight now. The rookies were talking to each other, all happy and shit. Should've been chill, but I could feel the peering eyes of these little bastards. They were ready to tear into me.
You'd think they'd be tamer after tasting my fist, but they overestimate their prowess. Only the Ino-Shika-Cho team's halfway tame. Ino's glare could kill, but that's it.
Pipe down, Gaara. I stuck my tongue out at them all. I love trolling weaklings.
Neji's team shifted focus to Guy and Kakashi. Lee's shaking in his boots, probably screaming about youth in his head.
"Hey… everybody's here. Old man Hokage, Iruka-sensei, and even Bushy-Brow! It looks like absolutely nobody got left out this time!" Naruto said, grinning wide.
With my perception and Sharp Hearing, picking up his rambling was easy. Trust the Child of Prophecy—no matter the beating, he's always vibrant.
Me and my team stayed at the rear. I could see everything and dodge the drama.
"Alright, listen up, everyone," Anko commanded. "Lord Hokage is going to explain the third exam to you."
First time I'm seeing old man Third.
Hiruzen stepped forward. "The third exam will soon begin. But before the explanation, there's a few things I want to clear with everyone here," he said, blowing a puff of smoke. "It's about the true purpose of this exam. Why we do a joint exam with the allied nations. To maintain good relations with the allied nations and heighten the level of the ninja. Don't let these reasons deceive you. This exam, so to speak, is the epitome of a war between the allied nations."
Heh, time for his ramble.
"If we go back in history, the allied nations right now were neighboring countries fighting each other," Hiruzen continued. "We eventually gave the people who were fighting a place to fight. That was the first Chunin Exams. A country's power is the village's power. The village's power is a ninja's power. A true ninja's power is awakened in a life-or-death battle. We also show off the ninja power of one country. So, since this is an exam where you fight while risking your life, it has a meaning."
Yeah, I'm definitely not listening to this crap. Taro wouldn't let me zone out, so I tuned in later.
"I don't care what it is," Gaara growled. "Hurry up and tell us what this battle entails."
Yes, Gaara, ever the battle-hungry brat.
"Yes, yes, I'll start to explain the details," Hiruzen said. "Excuse me, Hokage-sama. I, Gekkou Hayate, will explain."
A sickly-looking guy stepped forward, coughing. "Nice to meet you, everyone. Before we start the third exam, there's something I want you all to do," Hayate said, coughing again. "Uh, fight in some preliminary matches to see who gets to advance to the third exam's main battle."
"Preliminary matches?" Shikamaru shouted. "What do you mean?"
"There are too many of you guys left," Hayate explained. "We must decrease the number of participants according to the Chunin regulations. This round will consist of one-on-one individual combat, to full battle intensity."
As he wrapped up, Hayate said, "Those who want to quit after this, step forward now."
I glanced at my team. We walked out.
"We'd like to quit," Hana said, calm as ever.
Good girl. She knows her captain hates public speaking.
Before you melt your brain guessing my plans, let my S+ Intelligence explain. Simple. No spoilers. Hahaha! Okay, a little tease: I want to keep canon intact for the Chunin Exams. One of my favorite childhood fight scenes is in this arc. I wanna see it firsthand. Yes, call it sentiment.
"I'm also quitting," Kabuto said, smirking.
"Huh? Kabuto-san!" Naruto gasped.
"Hey you, Kehsun… did you just take the exams to beat us and then quit?" Naruto asked, pointing at me.
"It's Kenshin, you fool, and it's none of your business," I snapped, grinning. "My work here is done."
Almost all the rookies gave me Naruto's stink-eye. Sorry, our battle's later when you can excite me. Ayoooo! Not like that. I'm a respectable man.
Sasuke's fight was done. It was cool, I won't lie. What I'd give to be weak again, sweat, and shout youth. Oh, my Hashirama, where you at? Let's have a grueling battle.
I zoned out for the rest. When I snapped back, Shikamaru was slouching nearby.
"How are you able to stay here after you quit?" he drawled.
"Heh, wouldn't you want to know?" I grinned.
"Yes, I would want to know," he said, eyes half-lidded.
"There's no explicit rule that I had to leave. So yeah, I stayed."
"That easy?" he sighed.
"A ninja has to look underneath the underneath," I quipped, winking.
Kankuro was fighting that other Kabuto teammate. Kakashi had just sealed Sasuke's curse mark. My chance to introduce myself.
"2 on 1 is cheating!!! That's allowed, Kakashi Sensei?!!!" Naruto shouted.
"Idiot, that's a puppet. Aren't you supposed to have noticed? You saw him before the exams—the thing he always carries on his back. How did you even become a ninja?" I called.
"Hey! It's you, bastard. What do you want?" Naruto snapped.
"Relax, I came in peace. You have no value for me to make trouble for at the moment," I said, smirking.
"It seems you made a new friend, Naruto."
"Him?!!! No way!! One day I'm gonna beat the hell out of him, both him and Sasuke."
"Ouch, that hurt," I mocked. "Thought we were friends. Battle brings people closer."
"If that were true, the five villages would be at peace," Sakura huffed, stepping up.
"No one asked you, forehead. Look up, it's your turn. Go lose," I called as Sakura stepped up.
The girls had their spat.
"Umm... hey, Sakura-Chan is going too far... Ino really has scary eyes."
" Hmm... Sakura isn't the type of person to brag about her strength or hurt others... She just doesn't want Ino to not take her seriously or show her mercy." Kakashi said, eyes on the fight.
"Aww, Forehead's thinking of her friend," I mocked.
"What's your problem with Sakura-chan?" Naruto growled.
"Looks like a petty vendetta," Kakashi said, glancing at me. "Did she reject you in the Academy or something?"
"I'd rather hit my head on a rock," I said.
"Yeah, Kakashi-sensei, Shikamaru said he was gloomy back then," Naruto added. "Weird guy."
"Pfft," I snorted. "I'm right here."
This battle was trash. Naruto's cheer saved her? Talk no Jutsu for the win.
Being weak and smart is fun. Shikamaru's fight was as bad as Sakura's, but his brains made it better.
"Yes! It's here!" Naruto shouted, hyped.
Almost all the fights in this test are ass. Can't wait for Lee vs. Gaara.
Hinata gave Naruto medical cream while Kiba was on the ground. She gave him some later, but c'mon.
It's Hinata vs. Neji. "The person lost and suffering in the Main and Branch houses is you," Neji sneered.
I didn't like what I saw. Never been angrier in my life. I'm intervening.
"Neji-kun! This match is over!" Hayate called.
Fuck that, you sick twat. Soru. I appeared before the jonin and Hayate could move, kicking Neji flying. I sorued again, grabbing his neck.
"I'd give you a speech, but I'll leave that to someone else," I growled. "Do this in my presence again, and I'll cripple you and make you understand your destiny, Hyuga."
"That's enough, Kenshin," Guy said, landing beside me.
"Why do other jonin jump in? More special treatment for the main family," Neji spat.
"Neji, give it a rest," Guy said. "You promised not to lose your head over this main family stuff."
Shit, I lost my cool. Less emotions, Kenshin.
"Thanks, Kenshin, but leave this to the adults," Guy added.
"My bad, Guy-senpai," I said, winking. "It's all youth."
Naruto jumped in. "You're going down, Neji!"
Same squabble as canon. Neji's doomed.

"Ohhh! SAFE!" Choji cheered.

It's time for the ultimate matchup.
"It's alright! I'll allow it!" Guy roared.
BOOM! BOOM! Let's go! The ultimate fight. Leaf's and Sand's Dragon-Tiger collide!
"Lee! Explode!" Guy shouted.
"Yes!" Lee roared.
Tears. Peak battle.
Gaara was about to kill Lee when Guy stopped the match. "Lee, you're already a great ninja!" Guy said, voice firm.
Choji vs. the last Sound nin wrapped it up.
"With this, the preliminary trials for the third test are done!" Hayate coughed. "Congratulations to all who won the rights to the third round!"
Time to dip. Did I mention I achieved something? Met the Blue Beast and Copy Ninja Kakashi. Both gave platinum tickets. Did unlocking synthesis juice the drop rate? Like those Chinese novels—reach a higher realm, and zenith shit's common as dirt.
I got three Bronze, five Silver, five Gold, and four Platinum tickets. Exams done, time to roll.

Three Bronze gave three abilities. Extinguish Flames: Snuffs fire-based ninjutsu, scaling with chakra and skill power. Imagine me dousing Amaterasu. Hahaha! Epic. View Air: Shares senses with air, 1–2 km range. And Chidori. Lethal jutsu. Was gonna learn it anyway, but this speeds shit up.
Silver gave two broken abilities. Instant Transmission and Boogie Woogie. Fuck Flying Thunder God. One stupid ability, a nerf if you ask me—Measure King: exact measurements of anything. System tried to nerf me, but Lady Luck said, "No! Let my child be." Got Playful Cloud. That Playful Cloud. And one meh trait, Protection From Arrows: dodge any projectile. Never feared shurikenjutsu anyway.
Gold gave traits. Nature Energy Affinity—Sage Mode, here I come. Magic Well: boosted my chakra reserves. Master Medicine skill. And the most overpowered gifts: Six Eyes and Almighty Push. Takeaway? Six Eyes. Call me Gojo. Nah, I'd win. Hahaha. I'm in my pride era.
Platinum saw Gold and said, "You can't outshine me." Bam! Mangekyo Sharingan – Sasuke Edition. Bam! High Specs. Platinum said, "Your intelligence was lacking." Bam! Infinite Stamina. "You need stamina to boogie." Last one: Chakra Morph Jutsu. Transmutes my biological features. I can de-age, age up, change eye color, whatever. System read my mind. Tired of this twelve-year-old body.
