"Acnologia…"

The temperature in the guild hall seemed to drop as the name carried weight beyond its syllables. It was fear given form, destruction personified, the end of an era made flesh.

"That's impossible. Acnologia is just a legend. A story to frighten children." Max said, though his voice lacked conviction.

But even as he spoke, he knew the truth. The Magic Council didn't classify legends. They didn't issue warnings about bedtime stories. And the expression on Ultear's face, the grim certainty there, left no room for comfortable denial.

Fairy Tail hadn't fallen to dark mages. They'd faced something far worse.

"No..." someone whispered, the single word carrying all the denial and grief they'd held back for five years.

But Ultear wasn't finished. The worst was yet to come.

Meredy stepped forward. Her green eyes held a haunted quality that seemed at odds with her youthful appearance. When she spoke, her voice carried the memory that clearly still disturbed her.

"That dragon was wrong. All kinds of wrong. I specialize in Sensory Link magic. It lets me connect with others' emotions."

She paused, wrapping her arms around herself as if cold.

"I wasn't using my magic on the dragon. I would never dare create a link with something like that. But even from a distance, even without trying, I could sense what radiated from it."

Her next words came out barely above a whisper, yet they carried clearly in the silent guild hall.

"Pure malevolence. There wasn't a single positive emotion in that creature. Not pride, not joy, not even satisfaction. Just an endless void of hatred and destruction. It wasn't like sensing a living being. It was like looking into an abyss that wanted everything to die."

The description sent involuntary shudders through several guild members. The idea of facing human enemies, no matter how powerful, was one thing. But a creature of pure evil, something that existed only to destroy. That was nightmare made real.

"But even so," Jet said, his voice cracking with desperate hope, "they had Gildarts with them. And Master Makarov. Surely, they could have put up a fight. Maybe they found a way to—"

"We're Fairy Tail!" Droy added, clinging to the same thread of possibility. "We always find a way! Remember the Battle of Fairy Tail? The war with Phantom Lord? Even that battle against Grimoire Heart? We always come through!"

Others began to nod, building a fragile construction of hope on the foundation of past victories. Maybe their family had found a way to hide. Maybe they'd escaped at the last moment. Maybe the dragon had left without finding them.

Ultear's expression as she watched them grasp at these straws was almost pitying. She waited for the desperate theories to run their course before speaking again, her voice gentle but firm.

"As we drifted away from Tenrou Island on our damaged boat, we saw the dragon rise into the sky. It climbed higher and higher, until it was just a black speck against the clouds."

She paused, allowing them a moment to picture the scene. The great dragon ascending, their guild members below probably preparing defences, ready to face this ultimate threat with the courage that defined Fairy Tail.

"Then it turned in the air," Ultear continued, "opened its maw, and released a roar unlike anything I've ever witnessed. The sound itself was devastating, but the attack that followed..."

Her hands moved, trying to convey something words couldn't capture.

"Imagine all the darkness in the world condensed into a single beam of annihilation. The attack lit up the sky with a light that shouldn't exist. Black radiance that hurt to perceive. It fell upon Tenrou Island like judgment itself."

She stopped, letting the silence stretch before delivering the final truth.

"The island was engulfed in that terrible light. And then, in the next instant, it was gone. Not destroyed, not sunk. Gone. As if it had never existed at all. The sea rushed in to fill the space where the island had stood moments before."

No one moved. No one spoke. The full, terrible understanding was settling over them.

"The dragon hovered there for a moment," Ultear finished quietly, "observing the empty space where Tenrou Island had been. Confirming its work was complete. Then it flew away, disappearing into the distance."

What followed wasn't silence. It was the complete absence of sound. Then, like a dam breaking, the grief came.

Jet fell to his knees, Droy beside him, both men finally accepting what they'd refused to believe for five years. Max slumped against the nearest wall, his face in his hands. Wakaba's cigarette fell from nerveless fingers, forgotten as tears tracked down his weathered face. Some wept openly. Others stared at nothing, minds unable to process the finality of it. A few clung to each other.

Romeo remained at his table, but tears flowed freely down his young face. All the strength he'd built, all the determination to be strong for the guild. None of it could stand against the simple, brutal truth that his heroes were gone forever.

Macao moved between his guild members like a ghost, offering what comfort he could while battling his own grief. His hands shook as he placed them on shoulders, his voice cracked as he muttered meaningless reassurances.

The guild master who'd held them together through everything finally looked as lost as everyone else.

"I'm sorry," Ultear said softly, and there was genuine regret in her voice. Whatever her past, whatever darkness she'd been part of, she understood loss.

"We offer our deepest condolences for your fallen."

Meredy nodded beside her, moisture gathering in her own eyes as she witnessed the guild's pain. They stood quietly, respectfully, allowing Fairy Tail to grieve without intrusion.

Through all of this, Shisui remained still, but his mind raced. He'd known this world had its dangers. He'd faced dark guilds, specters of a demon long passed, even battled an abomination created by Zeref himself. But a creature that could erase an entire island with a single attack? That changed everything.

His eyes narrowed as he processed the implications. If something like Acnologia existed in this world, if there were beings of such overwhelming power that even Fairy Tail's strongest couldn't stand against them, then his current strength was woefully inadequate. Such beings would be akin to the Tailed Beasts from the elemental nations. And even he knew just how unlikely one would survive an encounter with any of such Beasts.

Moreover, he thought back to Warrod's confident assurance that the missing Fairy Tail members would return. Yet, here he was listening to detailed first-hand account of complete destruction, likely leading to the complete death of the missing mages. Shisui thought of giving hope by relaying Warrod's words, but after a moment's hesitation, he stopped himself.

He could not do it. He could not give them a false sense of hope. If Warrod's confidence was unfounded, then his guild may not survive the second time.

He thought of his guild members. They would need time to process this, to mourn properly. But afterward, they would need to become stronger.

And he would need to push himself beyond any limits he'd previously accepted. His training would have to intensify dramatically. But first, Fairy Tail needed to be able to stand on its own. He couldn't disappear into intensive training while they were still recovering from this blow.

His eyes hardened with determination. If this Acnologia ever returned, if it ever threatened his guild, he would be ready. He wouldn't let another Tenrou Island happen. Not to Fairy Tail, not to anyone under his protection.
