Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Sealing the Contract, Le Fay’s Commission

For safety?

Roy eyed Le Fay thoughtfully, recognizing her, and asked, "Can you explain why?"

"…Sorry, I can't say."

"Fair enough, I won't push."

"Thanks for understanding."

Le Fay exhaled in relief.

Devil commissions from humans were typically handled by the local overseer.

Aine's commission bypassing London's overseer and reaching Japan was simple.

The High-class devil managing London ran into Hero Faction members hours ago.

As a new Hero Faction recruit, Le Fay couldn't leak such intel.

"Mr. Roy, London's dangerous for devils right now. You shouldn't linger."

"I get you."

Roy nodded at her repeated warnings. "You're saying Cao Cao and his crew are here, and I should avoid them, right?"

Le Fay: "?"

How do you know?

"I checked Hercules's memories, so I know what Cao Cao's been up to."

Reading Le Fay's shock, Roy tapped his head. "Since you know Cao Cao, their plan's going smoothly, huh?"

"Not only did they recruit your brother to the Hero Faction, but they pulled you in too."

"That…"

"Let me guess—the commission crossed to London because the local overseer got killed, right?"

"…"

"Looks like I nailed it."

"Mr. Roy, this is a civilian area. I don't want to fight you here."

Le Fay tensed, facing Roy's uncanny deductions.

"For your client's sake and your own, please leave."

"Relax, don't stress."

Roy smirked. "If I wanted to fight, you'd already be dead."

Le Fay: "!"

She stepped back, her expression hardening.

Though Roy's tone was casual, she sensed he wasn't joking.

"I said, chill."

Roy snapped his fingers, creating an isolation barrier around them.

"What do you think of this move?"

"…It's a bit basic."

Le Fay hesitated, answering honestly.

"Yup, pretty basic."

Roy nodded, summoning a fireball, lightning, and other elements in his palm.

"Truth is, the magic I use is all self-taught and tweaked."

"They're good for clearing small fry, but I want to learn high-tier magic systematically."

"You want a contract with me?"

Le Fay caught his drift, asking uncertainly.

Roy: "Exactly. What do you say?"

Le Fay paused, shaking her head. "Sorry, Mr. Roy. I might not be up for it."

Roy: "Because of the Hero Faction?"

Le Fay: "Yeah."

Roy: "Doesn't matter to me. I care about the knowledge in your head."

As an Arthurian descendant, Le Fay's magical talent was top-tier.

Her training with the Golden Dawn pushed her mastery beyond 99% of magicians.

As a magic tutor, she was Roy's ideal choice.

"Don't rush to say no. Hear my terms."

"…Alright."

"Teach me magic, and I'll grant one request, as long as it's within my limits."

Roy patted the demon swords at his waist. "By the way, I'm pretty strong."

"I can take Cao Cao one-on-one, no interference."

Le Fay: "?!"

Beat Cao Cao? For real?

Though a rookie in the Hero Faction, Le Fay held a high rank.

She knew Cao Cao wielded the True Longinus.

The legendary strongest Longinus's power was undeniable.

Combined with Cao Cao's own skill, he could vie for the title of strongest human.

And Roy claimed he could beat him?

"I'm not bluffing."

Roy's voice cut through. "Cao Cao knows little about me."

"In a first encounter, I'm 100% confident I'd win."

"…I understand."

Unsure if Roy was boasting, Le Fay hesitated but agreed.

"You'll grant any request within your limits, right?"

"Yup. Slaying a god or handing over Gram? I'd agree, no questions."

"No, no, that's way too much! I wouldn't ask for that."

Le Fay shook her head. "Actually, I want you to look after someone."

"Who?"

"A friend from the Golden Dawn."

Le Fay pulled out a photo.

It showed two girls eating at a diner.

Le Fay was on the left, and on the right was a brown-haired beauty rivaling her in looks.

Le Fay pointed to her. "This is Meredith Ardington, a magician who joined the Golden Dawn with me."

"She seems cheerful, but I'm her only friend."

"When I leave London and defect from the Golden Dawn, she'll take it hard."

"I want you to take my place and be her friend after I'm gone."

"Any other requests?"

"Nope, that's it."

"Got it."

Roy nodded, accepting.

For him, this was trickier than killing a god.

But with some effort, he could manage.
