Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Group Move, A Commission from London

Kuoh Town, Human World.

Unaware of the trouble his intel caused Sirzechs and Ajuka, Roy finished lunch with Rias and headed to school.

The afternoon passed quickly. When Roy arrived at the Occult Research Club after classes, he spotted Koneko sulking in a corner, cheeks puffed.

She shot him a resentful glare as he entered.

Stare—!

"Evening, Koneko."

Unfazed, Roy pulled out a gift box. "Just got these sweets delivered. Want some?"

"Yes!"

Koneko accepted the offering.

Koneko's mood soared.

Licking cream from her lips, she said, "Senpai, I've packed my stuff. Can I move into your place tonight?"

"Of course."

"Huh? You two are moving in together?" Asia, nearby, looked surprised.

She'd been out walking during yesterday's chat and missed the news.

"Not just two," Akeno Himejima chimed in, entering with a teasing smile.

"Besides Koneko, Rias moved into Roy's place too. Didn't come back last night."

"Tch… three?!" Asia's eyes spun.

For the former Church saintess, this was overwhelming.

"I'm thinking of moving in too. I like lively places," Akeno added.

"Four?!" Asia gasped.

"Akeno, stop teasing Asia," Rias's voice came from the doorway. "If she takes it seriously, it'll be trouble."

"I'm not joking~" Akeno shrugged, leaning against the doorframe, eyeing Roy.

"What's the man of the hour say?"

"My place is just a regular apartment. No more rooms left."

"Why not move to my place?" Rias suggested suddenly. "It's plenty big for a few more people."

"Sounds good~" Akeno agreed lazily. "Asia's already at Rias's house."

"If you move in, you get a bonus cute girl to live with."

"Five?!" Steam rose from Asia's head.

Akeno giggled. "What's wrong? Don't like Roy, Asia?"

Asia lowered her head. "If… if it's Roy, I'm okay with it."

Akeno: "Looks like everyone's on board. Roy?"

"Let's move to Rias's place."

Roy agreed instantly.

Why pass up a sweet deal?

He had nothing to lose, so no reason to refuse.

After settling the moving plans, work time arrived.

Roy handled a cursed spirit for a neighbor, then clocked out early and returned home.

"Shoko, good news."

"…Not another training plan, is it?"

"I told you, don't stereotype me. This is actual good news."

So you know your 'good news' usually means bad news for me?

Shoko sighed inwardly, setting down her mop. "What's the good news?"

"You're getting a raise."

Whoa! That is good news!

"Why so sudden? Another experiment I need to help with?"

"Nah, I'm moving. Your new workplace will be bigger."

"Moving?"

Shoko froze, her mind flashing to a certain red-haired figure.

"With Miss Rias?"

"Half-right. Others are moving in too."

"What?!"

"Relax, Koneko and the others are great. You'll be friends."

"…That's not what I'm worried about!"

Shoko's expression darkened, her raise's joy evaporating.

Working under Rias's scrutiny yesterday was bad enough.

The thought of a more socially mortifying workplace made her want to bolt.

"New salary's ten times your old one, with raises for good performance. Any issues?"

"No issues! I'll work hard!"

For survival! Full send!

A week passed.

After moving into Rias's mansion, Roy's life settled back into calm.

Unlike before, he received no new commissions from Jujutsu High.

Killing the conservative sorcerer higher-ups, even with justification, strained relations.

Roy didn't mind much.

Besides occasional dates with Rias—and some sneaky fun—he spent most of his time training.

With the new gravity bracelet, he trained under 50x gravity constantly, pushing his limits.

Paired with Unlimited Potential and training-speed-boosting entries, his strength grew daily.

In just a week, he'd leaped forward.

By devil standards, his physical prowess surpassed the average High-class devil.

Even without abilities, his raw physique could overpower most High-class devils.

"Is it me, or is your growth speeding up?" Rias remarked after a spar, exasperated.

"It's actually slowed."

Roy sheathed his wooden sword, not a drop of sweat on him. "If I had stronger sparring partners, I'd grow faster."

"Sorry for being so weak," Rias sighed, helpless.

She'd trained hard privately, but couldn't compare to Roy.

From teaching him magic, to matching him, to being utterly outclassed—all in under two months.

Her firsthand experience confirmed Roy wasn't exaggerating.

Compared to routine training, he grew faster in real combat.

Buzz!

A magic circle on the floor lit up.

"New commission," Akeno said, setting down her tea to check it with mana.

Her face soon twisted in confusion. "Rias, this one's weird."

"What's weird?"

"The client's in… London."

"?"

Rias's expression mirrored Akeno's.

Out-of-jurisdiction commissions happened, but London was absurdly far.

"Sounds like an emergency," Roy said, eyeing the circle thoughtfully.

For some reason, he'd felt a strange urge to go out since earlier.

Glancing at his [Fortune's Gathering] entry, Roy made up his mind.

"Rias, I'll handle this one."
