Chapter 29 - A Different Jimmy

In the Cooper household, Jimmy sat on the couch out of boredom with little Sheldon, watching the science and education channel.

An old man with a white beard was explaining molecular structure on the television.

Nearby, Connie, feeling bored because she couldn't go to the casino, gave up and grabbed a beer from the fridge. Then she joined the two geniuses who were unusually quiet.

Just as the three of them sat in silence, enjoying a moment of peace, Missy suddenly burst out of her room.

She wore a loose black jacket, a pair of oversized sunglasses, and held a toy guitar in her arms. She looked like a rock star. She shouted, "Sheldon, listen to the new song I learned!"

She originally came out to bother Sheldon, but before she could finish her sentence, she noticed Jimmy sitting on the couch, staring right at her.

She immediately realized that her well-behaved girl image was about to collapse in front of Sheldon's friend. Normally she wouldn't have cared, but Jimmy had changed completely, and she was certain that in a few years, he'd be quite attractive.

"Hi, Missy," Jimmy greeted her with a friendly look.

Instead, Missy's face showed panic. Before anyone else on the couch could react, she quickly rushed back into her room and slammed the door.

"What's wrong with her?" Little Sheldon asked, confused.

Grandma Connie just shrugged and didn't answer his question.

After a while, Missy reappeared in a little bee costume with tiny wings, as if she'd forgotten everything that happened earlier. With a sweet look on her face, she approached Jimmy holding a handful of candy. "Jimmy, what are you doing here? Want some candy?"

The truth was, Missy wanted to ask, Don't you have your own house? What are you doing here?

She didn't know Jimmy could read her intentions, and he replied, "I only get paid for doing homework."

"Oh, that…" Missy cursed in her mind, but still stretched out her hand to give Jimmy some candy—maybe a cute smile would help her get what she wanted.

"Thanks."

"You're welcome," Missy replied gracefully, then pushed little Sheldon aside and sat next to Jimmy on the couch.

Jimmy had just unwrapped a piece of candy and was about to eat it when he saw little Sheldon, pushed to the edge, looking at him anxiously.

"Want one too?" Jimmy gestured.

Sheldon swallowed hard and refused, "Thanks, eating candy at night is bad for my teeth."

After that, Sheldon turned his head proudly—but his stomach started growling.

Kids tend to get hungry when they're growing. Plus, it was already past dinner time, so little Sheldon was clearly hungry.

"You haven't eaten yet, have you?" Jimmy asked doubtfully.

Connie, who was a very laid-back person, perked up at the question. "How about some pizza?"

"My treat," Jimmy said, suddenly pulling out a wad of cash. He had gotten paid more than usual today thanks to exams, so he had a lot of money on him.

"Incredible…"

"Heavens above," Connie muttered, wondering how Jimmy could earn so much money just by going to school.

"There were 230 students who asked me for help with homework and 355 during exams. Honest work," Jimmy said as he stood up, walked to the phone, and quickly ordered several pizzas.

"George Jr., what kind of pizza do you want?"

"Pineapple and meat."

"Gross…" Missy couldn't help but mutter when she heard that awful combination.

"Shut up."

Sheldon took the opportunity and said, "I'll just take cheese."

"Boring."

Jimmy was bombarded with personal requests, and if it hadn't been for his excellent memory, he wouldn't have been able to keep up.

Outside the Cooper house, George Jr. was holding a bag of firecrackers and asked Jimmy, "Wanna light some?"

"No, I promised my parents I'd behave. Last time I set off a rocket and it didn't end well," Jimmy recalled how he had burned a large area of the park in his old city.

George Jr. didn't care and lit up all the firecrackers in his hands anyway.
