. . . . . . . . . . . .
For a moment, Pei Lengxue really wanted to stab Feng Yudie—the vixen trying to steal her senior brother, with the sword in her hand—but she held herself back in the end.
—Don't act rashly. Stay calm. The one who laughs last, laughs best.
That was what Ye Anping had always taught her. He even made her memorize a ton of inspirational quotes, telling her to recall them whenever she faced difficulties.
Her looks weren't any worse than that vixen.
That long silver hair? She could dye hers too.
The only thing she couldn't compete with was spirit root.
But that didn't mean she couldn't surpass Feng Yudie in strength.
And when it came to feelings for Ye Anping—that vixen didn't stand a chance.
Affection wasn't just about possession. It was about sacrifice.
Pei Lengxue clenched her small fists and waved them as if making an oath:
"Senior Brother, I'll prove it. Your junior sister is ten thousand times better than that vixen!"
Her senior brother once said:
"If you're gold, you'll shine eventually."
Then she was going to be gold!
"Hmph."
Pei Lengxue pouted, turned her head away from the two people walking toward the pavilion, and instead went to a practice post at the edge of the training ground.
She pulled a yellow talisman from her storage bag, wrote "Feng Yudie" on it, slapped it on the post, and then began hacking at it like a madwoman.
"Die, you damn vixen!!"
One post was instantly reduced to splinters. But she didn't stop—she slapped another tag with Feng Yudie's name on the next one and kept slashing.
. . . . . . .
Meanwhile, over at the pavilion, Ye Anping sat down with Feng Yudie. Knowing she wasn't one to beat around the bush, he planned to get straight to the point once Xiao Die delivered the tea.
But then he noticed Feng Yudie sneaking glances at Pei Lengxue in the distance, who was still wildly chopping at the wooden posts.
Every time she looked, she'd let out a goofy giggle.
Veins popped up on Ye Anping's forehead.
Unable to contain it, he slammed his palm on the stone table.
Smack!
"… …"
Feng Yudie jerked like a startled cat, her silver hair puffing up in all directions. She sat up straight and stared at him.
"Young Master Ye, you misunderstood! I was just admiring the scenery—not your junior sister!"
"Heh."
"Really! The scenery here at the Hundred Lotus Sect is so beautiful and full of spiritual life. It's truly a feast for the eyes!"
"Sigh—forget it." Ye Anping let out a breath.
"Let me just give you one last reminder: stay away from my junior sister. Now, let's talk business."
"Mm-hmm!!" Feng Yudie nodded vigorously, hunched her shoulders, and took a sip of tea from the cup Ye Anping poured for her.
"Speak, Young Master Ye, I'm listening."
"There are two things I want to ask of you."
Feng Yudie blinked in surprise. Then, resting her chin on the back of her hand, she tilted her head and locked eyes with him.
Her silver hair slipped in front of her brows, half-covering one eye.
That subtle change in expression, half-hidden behind her hair, sent shivers down Ye Anping's spine.
But he wasn't surprised. He knew exactly what was happening.
Feng Yudie had started mentally jotting his name down in her little revenge notebook.
Why?
Because she'd grown up in poverty and had developed a petty, vengeful personality.
If someone shorted her a single coin, she'd find a way to make them pay back a thousand.
Now that she heard he was going to ask a favor, she definitely thought he was trying to make a deal.
And to her, there's no such thing as an equal trade. One side profits, the other loses.
So, of course, she was now hyper-alert, determined not to be taken advantage of.
"Hmmph, go ahead, Young Master Ye."
"Sigh…" Ye Anping took a long breath and said calmly:
"I saved your life. That means you owe me a major favor. I'm here to collect on that favor now."
Feng Yudie twirled a lock of hair behind her ear and pouted:
"I thought you saved me out of the kindness of your heart. Turns out you were trying to build leverage and get something out of me?"
"If meat pies fell from the sky, would you dare to eat one without thinking?"
"But I only owe you one favor, and you're asking me to do two things?"
"Saving your life back in the Martial Creek Town is one favor," Ye Anping narrowed his eyes slightly and didn't back down. "But having my mother use her true essence to heal your injuries is another. If she hadn't done that, you likely would've missed the Profound Star Sect's disciple selection event."
Feng Yudie stared closely at Ye Anping, her brows twitching faintly as a flicker of dissatisfaction appeared in her eyes. But knowing she was in the wrong, she nodded reluctantly.
"Fine. Two favors. Two tasks. What do you want me to do?"
"First," Ye Anping said, "I want you to take me into the Profound Star Sect."
"Take you in?" Feng Yudie's brows furrowed slightly as she shook her head. "I may have a recommendation letter from my master, but the Profound Star Sect has high standards for disciples. I can't help you there."
"You just need to name me as your 'attendant'. New disciples are allowed to bring one person in with them as an assistant."
"Let me think about that. What's the second thing?"
"Second," Ye Anping said, "during the initiation ceremony, each new disciple will be asked to pick one of seven boxes containing rare materials or magical tools. When that time comes, you must choose the box marked with the word 'Void' and give what's inside to me."
Feng Yudie looked confused. "That's a thing?"
"Mm," Ye Anping shrugged, smiling. "It's a test the Profound Star Sect uses to gauge a disciple's luck. Luck is hard to measure directly, so they came up with this method. Basically, whoever picks the best item scores the highest. The seven boxes each hold items of varying value."
"What's in the one marked 'Void'?"
"Something you can't use—but something useful to me and my junior sister."
"What kind of item?"
"Something called Cold Sky Sand. It's worthless in the Northern Region, but extremely rare around here. No one in the Western Region really uses it, so it's hard to find."
At that, Feng Yudie suddenly felt something was off.
Why did this guy know so much about the Profound Star Sect's tests?
The sect's disciple selection event changed every five years.
It was like the imperial exams—the contents were highly classified.
She frowned deeply. "How do you know what's inside the box? If that's part of the sect's initiation ceremony, it should be a secret."
"There's no such thing as a house without leaks."
"…" Feng Yudie furrowed her brows and lowered her eyes in thought.
After a moment, she spoke: "Alright, I can agree to those two things. But I have a condition too."
"Go ahead."
"Your junior sister will be my attendant instead. If I bring a man, people will get the wrong idea… It wouldn't look good."
Ye Anping had already predicted she'd say that. Without hesitation, he nodded.
"Then I have one more condition too."
"…" Feng Yudie's eye twitched slightly. She felt like she was being played.
"Stay away from my junior sister. Don't lead her astray." Ye Anping refilled her teacup as he said solemnly, "Lengxue was raised by me. I won't allow a playgirl like you to mess with her."
"P-Playgirl?!"
『Hmph, he's got a point.』 Xiaotian, who had been silently listening the whole time, crossed it arms and nodded in agreement.
『Yudie, you really are a playgirl. A whore in short.』
"…"
Feng Yudie gave Xiaotian an awkward side glance and sighed helplessly, waving her hand.
"Fine, fine…"
"Then it's a deal."
Ye Anping raised his teacup, offering a toast.
Just then, a loud boom erupted from the direction of the training ground, startling both Ye Anping and Feng Yudie. They turned their heads in unison.
Turns out, Pei Lengxue had blown up a wooden post while hacking at it.
Ye Anping stood there dumbfounded for a long moment, before sighing:
"Miss Feng, why don't you head back to your room and rest for today. A Profound Star Sect elder will be arriving at the Hundred Lotus Sect tomorrow."
