Chapter 82 - CHAPTER EIGHTY-ONE

Jake just sighed for now; in just a week, the kids will be back in class.

He'll go to the province now to take Mikaela to the basement, where they'll meet again and see each other in person.

The good news of the young women's rescue from the warehouse, the site of William's previous basement attack, pleased him.

They were still puzzled about who helped them, considering they were in their huts at that time, and suddenly Felix appeared; they knew that Felix couldn't have saved the fifteen women at once.

His explanation to him was that Fernan helped him escape.

How can a ghost help us? He just asked himself this question and shook his head.

That's impossible! Very impossible. He was arguing with himself; he just let Felix and Vince say whatever they wanted about their premonition.

But to what extent would they help us? Are they having a hallucination? He found himself questioning again in his mind, only to frown.

He didn't believe in ghost stories in the world they lived in. He needs an explanation based on reality and not on supernatural occurrences.

He heard a knock on the door of his room.

"Brother." Mikaela called out to him.

"Yeah, just wait for a minute." This is all he said.

They are going to the province now. As discussed, he will also drop off Jenny and Greg.

"Are Jenny and Greg already there?" he just asked.

"Yes, they are already here."

He just nodded, immediately left the room, and took the keys to his car. They were ready to go to the location where everyone else was gathered.

Mikaela followed him down the stairs, and as they both did, he met the two siblings' eyes. She just sat quietly and waited.

"Let's go so we can get there early." He said it firmly and didn't look back to see if they were following him.

He went straight to the garage, where he prepared the vehicle. The three who were waiting for him were just there.

He immediately started the car's engine then. He drove it and parked again for the three to get into his vehicle. It had tinted glass, and it was not visible who got inside his vehicle at that time.

The two siblings quietly got into the back seat, while Mikaela quietly got into the front seat. Once the three were inside, he immediately drove off.

Their journey was hushed; his companions hardly spoke. Although he didn't voice any complaints, it was evident that the three of them were becoming increasingly tense in the car.

He wanted to break the silence that hung between the three of them.

"Do you believe in ghosts?" Jake suddenly asked his companions.

He saw in his side mirror that Mikaela and Jenny exchanged glances; their faces clearly showed how they would respond to his question.

"Yes, sir." That's all he heard from the young Greg, who even smiled at him.

That's why he smiled too.

"Why do you believe in ghosts, Greg?" he asked the child.

"Because they are always here in the world." This is how Greg responded to Jake's question.

"Did you see a ghost?" Jake asked again.

Greg quickly nodded at him. "Yes, yes, I can see them, and also, they are sitting next to you now. Ellese sat beside Mikaela". What he said surprised Jake.

"Greg." He heard Jenny scolding her little brother.

"It's true, sister." This is what he said.

"I—I'm truly sorry about my brother; he's just being a nuisance. I'm truly sorry, sir." Jenny apologized to him.

He didn't answer; he looked at it in the side mirror. Mikaela, on the other hand, was not comfortable sitting there, looking around. Jenny was still bowing her head, asking for his forgiveness.

"It's okay, Jen." He assured the young woman, Jenny.

"Have you ever seen a ghost, Jenny?" He asked to change the subject.

She was surprised by him; she weakly shook her head. "You're not like your sibling, who also saw a ghost. Oh, you have an ability to predict, right? It's called a premonition." He said.

Jake can see the discomfort on Jenny's face.

"Y---Yes, sir." He gave her a concise response as he surveyed his surroundings.

"Don't be fidgety." He heard Jenny scolding her little brother in a whisper.

"Do you think it will help our daily lives to solve our problem? Or will we become dependent on this?" he asked his companion.

They didn't answer. "We don't use premonition to solve our daily problems. We avoid using it because lingering too long on premonition or time travel has aftereffects." Jenny said to him.

"Maybe, in this case, it will help to solve problems, especially if what is happening is not clear."

He just listened to the explanations. "How do you use it? When you have a premonition, Jenny, do you try to prevent it from happening?" she asked.

"I—it depends on the situation, my older brother always tells me. Let your premonition pass, as long as you know you're ready for what will happen."

Jenny chuckled softly at her answer.

"Your brother is really something, Jenny; I just regret that he didn't get to college to support the needs of you siblings."

Jenny was somewhat surprised by her laughter back then.

"I—I know that, because when I started high school, he decided to stop studying for a while."

"Please don't misunderstand my words, Jenny; I understand why he also stopped studying." He said.

He noticed that they had entered a dense forest and could only see trees.

"I guess we're here now; let's head over there first." He said.

They fell silent again, especially the two young women; he saw Mikaela's face, which was difficult to read, and her serious expression.

He could only shake his head at their conversation now. He respected the different opinions that Jenny threw at him, and he had no problem with that.

They passed by the warehouse; it seemed like an ordinary warehouse to others, but he knew it would never be an ordinary warehouse. He noticed Mikaela writhing as she rubbed her temple.

She recalled a painful memory associated with this place. He didn't know if he would be ready for what would happen in the mansion.
